Couldn't find the old thread that mentioned this... they've finally made it to pre-order stage... god damn these are expensive. I still really want one (maybe when the ergnomic one comes out, and they're cheaper), it would be just badass to have a keyboard integrated with GS... showing you your RT across the number keys, highlighting your keypad for the directions you can go, your spacebar being your health and mana bar, set up a macro key for stance toggle that shows your current stance...

I don't understand the big deal with these keyboards. And at $1500 each, I really don't get it.

The price is insane, and I don't understand why the were in development so long...
The draw is the cool factor along with the whole idea of taking the alphabet out of the input for tasks that don't involve the alphabet.
In photoshop I always forget my shortcut keys, and I use photoshop just enough to want to use shortcuts, but not enough to really keep them all in my head. Now if my keyboard showed a picture representing the command on the key, it would be easy to figure out... and all the keys would change when I held down ctrl.
From a gaming perspective, why should my keys for movement say "asdw"? instead of drawing arrows on those keys, showing the weapon on each number (Picture the WoW hotkey toolbar actually drawn on your numbers, and as you hit ctrl it changes to the other toolbar). It's just very cool, and some people have $1,500 to blow on cool (not me... I'm cool enough, call me Miles Davis).
I've also heard people mention military and medical applications, I could certainly see it having very practical uses in embedded technology (Mr President, the button you're looking for is the one with the little mushroom cloud on it).

It's the integrating with games that I don't get, since the game shows you the information already. Why would you want it displayed on your keyboard? Wouldn't you want to pay attention to the screen rather than what your keyboard is doing?

Whack-A-Mole
This is for a $1,500 whack-a-mole game. Would you rather whack a button assosiated with the mole, or the mole itself?
Games would be esspecially useful if you were new to the game. if I had one I would probably build a stand so that my keyboard would butt up against the bottom of a tilted screen (so that I look down at the screen). That way it's just an extension of the screen with the controls laid out, and I wouldn't be "looking away" to see the keyboard.
I think wide flashy type things would be key otherwise, stuff you could see in your peripheral vision... flash the whole keyboard if you get stunned in GS, RT could probably easily displayed along the numbers, stuff like that.

Wow. That's a pretty elaborate and expensive front end solution (unless you're playing Whack-a-Mole). But I'm a touch-typer. I just don't look at my keyboard. I always thought the big red "stunned" prompt was enough to get my attention.

What they don't mention is that OLEDs will wear out in about 5 years.
Now, $1500 over 5 years isn't all that much, I guess, but for that price I'm looking for permanence.

Anyone that doesn't immediately recognize the greatness of this keyboard is obviously retarded. It's not at all cost efficient, but the idea is fantastic.

It wouldn't be considered much if you actually spent $300 a year on a new keyboard.
Just another way for geeks to see boobies.

The keyboard is pretty sweet. The cost is a bit high, but that will come down to $999.99 most likely fast. Basically, you got a programmable keyboard that auto sets the keys with the program you're running. So if you have like 19 keys for WoW, they will show up in the middle or on the right or left where you like them. And display what they are.
If it was less than $500, I'd consider buying it, but not for 3x that cost.
Granted you can set macros up to any keyboard, it's the cost for extreme convenience!

Dude. Wait. What? There's boobies on this keyboard!?! I misunderstood. It's underpriced then.

Actually they do mention that they'll wear out in about two and a half years.
