View Full Version : Spell Training

I want to get some different opinions on spell training for a War Mage.

I seem to recall someone saying to train up to certain spells ASAP, I just can't remember which topic it was in. All input is appreciated.

What level are you starting at? From the beginning?

Read the official boards, Morq has posted numerous times on how to best outfit a war-mage.

Sorry I couldn't offer more help than that, I haven't swung a blad in almost 4-5 years now, heh.

My character is now level five.

I'll check out the official boards; see what I can find there.

Well, I think defense is the best offense for a warmage.

get 902
then straight up to 509 and 409

You'll have the bonus for AS from strength, the defense from Elemental defense II with III well on the way, and you'll be able to cast your most mana effecient hunting spell(901)

Edit: Plus, you'll swing at 2 seconds because of haste.

Morq is a good warmage but his path wasn't good when i needed one.

902 asap, 506 asap.

then 509, (as neff saids) then 905, then 475.

what weapon you'll use, you are a good war mage or a bad one? (pole arm/2 handed, or those weak noodles?)

DaMaGe

So after getting 509 and 905 I should just double up the Minor Elemental circle to 475, ASAP? What purpose does this serve?

No, its not worth it. Get up to 430.

Xcalibur

Since you're a war mage, you need the highest AS (ds too) possible

you'll RARELY get hit, haste is a charm

get 475 asap mainly to keep an AS ROI of 2.5 (1 from 400 circle, 1 from weapon, .5 from cm)

500 circle after 510 has nothing for war mage, nor the 900 circle after 905 (since 919 is now a crap spell)

that way, you get the highest AS possible asap, and your ds will be very high too (430, 414, 406, 401, 503, 905)

Alright, I appreciate the feedback. I'll give it some thought, before I decide what to do.

Basically its about fun. Xcalibur is wrong about the 500's providing nothing for the war-mage. Is it fun training in spells you cannot use (436+). No its not.

Anyway, why you SHOULD train more spells in 500's after 509 (Strength).

511: Disks - Helps you not be encumbered. Encumberance effects DS and RT. Important issues for the War Mage.

514: Stone Fist - Creates a stone fist that fights for you. Helps you attack.

And most importantly 520: StoneSkin. Grants you damage reduction when you get hit, something YOU will be doing as a war mage. An excellent spell here, one all war mages should be getting.

Now for the 900's.

909: Tremors - knocks everything down reducing AS and DS by 50.

912: Call Wind - You don't need an uber AS if you are hitting something lying down in Offensive.

913: Melgorhens Aura - a valuable DS spell.

Xcalibur may know about war mages of the last generation, but fuck all about the GS4 variation.

e-wave does the job call wind and tremor would, but since you're HEAVILY trained in 400 circle, it's instant death with it (20 seconds, means 10 attacks of 2 seconds)

I don't know much about 514, and you don't need 520, you won't get hit.

haste, wait for it to swing (or don't, if its ds is already low) e-wave, bash until death. repeat

You can do that until 50 WITHOUT any problems

StrayRogue
11-22-2003, 01:35 PM
Not everything can be ewaved. Again, you know nothing of GS4, so your argument is moot. You WILL be getting hit in GS4 as a War Mage. And again, how fucking boring is training in just 400's. I am not suprised a dunce like you wouldn't get bored though.

Xcalibur
11-22-2003, 01:38 PM
Ahh cut out the damn insult, it's almost not funny anymore.

Nor as not everything can be tremored or call winded.

AS is everything for a war mage, if he got an heavy weapon, it won't last long.

Just plan your monsters careful

rats till 10
if you have a shield, wraiths till 18
zombies till 25
corpses till 33
karumon till 40
varnunar till 46
banshees till 51 (56?)
wind wraiths till whatever

If some did changes, just adjust, war magery is one of the fastest-easiest to do when did intelligently

514 doesn't exist yet.

StrayRogue
11-22-2003, 01:44 PM
1, The insults aren't meant to be funny. They are simply making us all aware of what an idiot you are.

2, If its easy, why the fuck did you sell up then? Didn't you yourself says it was "too hard?"

3, What happens (as Haste doesn't work the same anymore), if a critter comes in after I've swung my greatsword? You ARE going to get hit somewhere along the line as ANY weapon using profession. It is a fact of life. It happens in GS3 and it WILL happen in GS4. With less DS now, you are going to get harder. 520 IS going to be needed IF you are going to be getting hit alot. That or heavy armor, and I'd love to see some or any wizard in hauberk or even brig cast with any level of effectiveness.

Xcalibur
11-22-2003, 01:48 PM
a 5 seconds swing cut out at 2 seconds is better than ANY DS SPELLS

haste is the BEST spell in the game, you can swing 2 times and defend against ANY monsters in the game (that swing)

You only get hit if you're reckless.

I didn't sell up because it was too hard, but because they scrap what i liked about mine and i happened to have a good rogue (better than yours actually) that was more fun for me.

You're now speaking for everyone, now?

Cut them still, i don't care if you think i'm an idiot, it's your problem, not mine, just cut em (I'll add a "fuck you, moron" to any of your comment, deal?)

StrayRogue
11-22-2003, 01:52 PM
Again, you chat shit about a game you've only played for ten minutes. Your rogue is neither here nor there, because YOU SAID you traded up your wizard for another character. I don't believe any bullshit you say 1, because you are a liar, and 2, because you don't know dick squat about how Stay is or was trained.

Secondly, unless you are giant with tanked stats, swinging a claidh even with haste the rt will be around 4-5 seconds. And I quote:

"The target will experience shorter Roundtimes (RT) enhanced by the Haste spell based on the Wizard's Elemental Lore, Air training; -1 RT at 100 skill, -2 RT at 200 skill, and a maximum of -3 RT at 300 skill."

Now, with hindrance being the way it is, how often do you think your pitiful 410 defense will work on every critter? I am betting about 28% of the times it won't work. Less if you for higher than brig. You are going to get hit.

Xcalibur

You don't need armor if you aren't hit, just calculate your ds according to the monsters AS is better than anything.

rats are nothing, mummies are nothing, Wraiths swing slowly, zombies swing slowly, corpses swing slowly, there goes a path till 35 without ANY problems

Hey, you don't believe anything i saw because i am a liar, why the fuck you keep on responding, you need that much to have the highest post numbers?

What's the point of arguing with you then, hehe

FAct is, i did it to 61 in 8-9 months, you did not, gs3-gs4.

Claidh is 8 rt, - 2 stats (easy) - 3 haste (i don't understand how haste works, it's 3 second cut base then 1 more at 100, 1 more at 200 and maximum of 3 additionnal rt removed at 300 skills in air training?)

if so, that's a swing every 3 seconds, 1 swing, defend, repeat.

Xcalibur
11-22-2003, 02:00 PM
I'll add that i am 99% sure that my path would work till legend without any problems. If someone wanna pay me a good amount of cash to buy that would-be character (war mage(, i'll gladely prove that i am right and straycat is just arguing because he must be right in anything on internet.

StrayRogue
11-22-2003, 02:01 PM
A critter can easily come in within that time. You quit, and you said this, because GP killed your character. It became too hard for you. But ask any weapon swinger - will you get hit? YES, you will.

The FACT is this. You know NOTHING about GS4. You have played for 10 minutes. You are a noob. A total fucking noob with no grasp for its mechanics and have no right to give out your BS info to those who actually need it.

StrayRogue
11-22-2003, 02:03 PM
Again, you prove your word is utter BS. "I won't ever play GS again", "I give you my word". No wonder the French got anally ruined in both wars. Fucking pussies. Secondly, lvl 60 in your time is about lvl 40 now. Any retard could get to level 40.

Xcalibur
11-22-2003, 02:04 PM
Name me one critter that would come and swing in less than 3 seconds (assuming he'll swing a claid)

If you can, simple solution is to avoid it. The path till 35 i gave has no such monsters, there goes your poop argument.

Gp killed my character, what i liked in him (chain mail greatsword, fully single in cm war mage)

edit: bla bla bla bla bla, i'd do it for cash still.

One critter, easy - Shamblers. They swing a two handed sword.

CrystalTears

What's the fun of playing if you're going to just hunt 8 critters out of all of them? And most of them undead, no less. No wonder you got bored and left. :P

Xcalibur

Whats the point in having access to the best combination of spells in the game and not even using them until around lvl 30? See CT's response for you answer Xcalidoofhm.

hahahha, it's powerhunt, to grow fast.

It's not boring, i prefer hunting something easy 7 trains to try a lot and dies a lot.

DR is there too, don't forget that. Fun to change and die, and "lose" exp...?

StrayRogue
11-22-2003, 02:10 PM
Idiot, you don't know fuck all do you? You don't loose exp anymore. You just gain it slower moron.

Xcalibur
11-22-2003, 02:13 PM
50% cut when you hunt is losing experience.

It takes you double time to fry your head, that is because you "lose" experience.

I'll cut you 50% of your salary till you pay X debts, it's a cut of your salary.

Cut the insult

why are we all assuming because he said warmage that he wants to swing 2handed?

CrystalTears
11-22-2003, 02:13 PM
By the way, you can't answer someone's question about the best way to train a spell caster by giving them the powerhunter answer. You're going to confuse and frustrate those who want to hunt and roleplay and not soar to level whatever and miss out on the fun along the way.

Totaly agree with you, but he asked what was the best for a war mage (swinger wizard).

I gave him my opinion, obviously straycat didn't agreed with it.

Would had been simple to say:

Xcalibur's

Straycat's

take the one you want.

But it must end up in a "virtual-fight", as always.

Xcalibur

902, 509, 475 (430 is uncapped, continue if you like 410, 415)

then get the rest as you think you need.

I really advice you if you're going in the shieldess path to take 2 handed weapon, pole arm are "better" but good pole arm are rare and expensive.

There it goes, i think it was clear enough

StrayRogue
11-22-2003, 02:25 PM
Want to play a boring, defunct path that Doofhm hasn't even tried? Do the above. Want to have fun as a Wizard-Fighter and survive in GS4, a game the same idiot from above hasn't played? Do the following:
Get 509, 906, 410 as quick as possible. Then get 430, then 520, then work whichever list up you want.

Sorry to get away from the bitching, but someone here mentioned getting 475 ASAP to have the higher bolt AS. In another thread someone said you don't gain bonuses with spell ranks that are higher than your level, you only gain the CS bonus.

So which is which? I wanna know if I'm able to put most of my spell ranks in the 500's (many more ranks past my level) to have a higher bolt AS or if the bonus is capped at my level, I'll spread them out evenly between the circles.

Thanks.
