This one is really odd. My wireless connection keeps on disappearing. It started the other day, I put my computer on standby when I went to sleep and when I came back my wireless was gone. Opened up network connections and it just wasn't there. The wireless status icon was gone in my taskbar too. I called HP and had to sit through 45 minutes of someone reading off a script of things I'd already tried, restarting, reinstalling the drivers, making sure my wireless toggle switch was on, etc. Finally they agreed to send me a box for support. Then today my wireless came back all of the sudden. I opened network connections and the wireless icon was back and it was working. I left network connections open and left my laptop on and went out and when I get back in tonight my wireless has disappeared again. Really weird. Any thoughts?

Some PCs have a "radio off" switch that's pretty buried... BIOS can turn it off too, my father's IBM had issues when it hibernated it would turn the radio off and not restore it. Poke around in the power management settings, there should be an option for turning the radio on and off, ensure it is on. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing the option there...

Weird man, I have this same problem with the network connection icons when I unidle from hibernation.

I use the 2Wire wireless client drivers + USB wireless antenna and have Zero config disabled, so it's never really been a problem.

I have several family members who experienced this exact same problem because they had no fucking clue what all the buttons on their fancy keyboard did... namely the wireless toggle button (a small quarter inch button that completely disables wireless when tapped)

Because it happened all of a sudden, you might check to see if your computer has one of these buttons, perhaps next to your standby button?

Most of the new models will actually flash "wireless disabled" when you hit the toggle button, but when they first started releasing it, not all of them did. Could be you accidently tripped it and didn't realize it.

OOOR, you have a virus and need to stop looking at teh pr0n

Just a guess

I didn't suspect the toggle due to the fact he already called HP. That's the first thing they will flag.

So this is a weird problem. I put it on standby and brought it back and wireless came back. My broadcom 802.11a/b/g adapter appeared back in network devices. The wireless stayed on until I put it in standby and brought it back where it disappeared again. I had left the broadcom adapter properties open and now it said "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. Code 45". I can't seem to bring it back by going from to standby again or restarting or hibernating. I'm curious as to why you goes think it's the BIOS when they only really affect startup.

Check your device manager settings for your wireless card. Go to the Power Management tab. Make sure the box that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is unchecked.

Or you could just buy a new wireless card. They're pretty cheap.

Well I can't now because it's disappeared from my device manager but I checked it when it was there and there was no power management tab. It's an integrated wireless card, worst comes to worst I send to HP for warranty repair I'd really rather avoid that though.

My laptop bios was set to disable all my ports and shit when my battery runs low... which caused it to randomly start flicking stuff off when my battery went tits up and couldn't hold a charge anymore... of course it wasn't just my wireless that was flicking, it was my mouse and sound too.

All that to say there ARE settings in the bios that can fuck up your wireless, so I wouldn't totally discount it.

This is where my problem was, but in my desktop, not my laptop. Tech support could not help me what so ever. It wasn't until I googled it was I able to fix it!
