Opinions on the city from locals. Is it an interesting city to live in? What is the real estate market downtown like these days? Is the employment and economic picture good there?

Great city, expensive to live in, good job market.

Any idea what it would cost to buy a townhouse or a two bedroom condo downtown? My first choice would be the Magnificent Mile area with a lake view.

Yeah, your return.

Which was last night. Not sure what the looks comment is supposed to mean since the ONE picture of me on here is me happy. But if that's what makes you feel better, you go right on ahead and do that.

There is a stomach turner.

Good to see you using the Tabor defense of "yeah? well you're fat and ugly!" GG.

MM is definatly the best DT location, I'll ask my friend where in Chicago where she lives, I know it's near Wrigley Field but I forget what the exact area is called. But her apartment is amazing and it's a safe location.

Englewood is by far the best neighborhood.

P.s. I can go ask my mom at the University of Chicago

These two areas are no where near each other.
She probably lives in Wrigleyville (duh), Boystown, or Lincoln Park.

I've seen 7digit condos and a 3bedroom apartment with decent room and a view of the lake (on Lake Shore Dr, nonetheless) for 1.6k a month. You're going to have to be a LOT more specific.
I would say you'd be looking at 350k plus.
And, if you're serious, let me give you some advice. Downtown Chicago is lame. It's where people who are visiting Chicago go. Everything is over-overpriced because of that. Living there is nice in theory, but chances are it won't be anything near practical or as much fun as you envision it. Move to one of the neighborhoods. More culture, more flavor, more life. I'm partial to Bucktown if I'm up north or close to Sox stadium on the south side (just have to avoid a few certain blocks). And I forgot to mention Bourbon Street. That place is fun.

a FEW blocks around sox stadium? Are you high? What areas do you consider nice around there?
P.s. I can go ask my mom at the University of Chicago
Even I had to laugh at that one, ok points.

I have been considering moving to Chicago but I don't want to sell my house in Toronto. I am not a fan of renting, so I was wondering if I could swing two mortgages. I might rent out my house in Toronto to pay the mortgage. At this point moving to Chicago is a possibility but nothing has been cast in stone.

I hear Cabrini-Green is nice.
Except it's not there anymore.
If you want Cabrini, move to Rantoul or Danville ... those are the two places that opened their doors to Cabrini.

Yeah didn't they raze it with the intent of a mixed-income neighborhood built in it's place?

Is this one of the old projects they are now building condos in?

They razed all the housing projects in Chicago beginning in 2001.
