I’m thinking of switching to ranged and would like to make the change before the next fixskills comes out on Monday. Presently hunting the Blighted Forest without too much trouble. Also thinking of stepping into Augmented Chain (ala Stunseed).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Drop all the shield, CM, stalk/hide, edged, and ambush. Drop all your lore ranks.

Bump your perception to 2x and your ranger ranks to at least your level. I would opt for double chain and not shoot for the extra leg armor.

616 becomes a wonderful weapon against boars and mage ogres.

The builds I've seen suggest 2x ambush, 2x hide/stalk and 2x perception; CM for shadow mastery or multi-fire. Hard to find the TPs for all that.

You must pretty much fire from the open and spike anything with maneuver based attacks. Probably works pretty well come to think of it.

I suggest the following if you plan on going to ranged. drop all shield and flip edged to ranged. get rid of lores for now. You might want to get rid of arcane and MIU are those aren't necessary as well. Get rid of MOC, you won't need it for ranged combat. CM is optional skill IMHO, I have 1x in it and fight ranged. Great skill to have especially once you hit OTF. Drop 2 spell ranks till you're 1x in your spells.

If you prefer to hide you'll want to boost that to 2x. Get your Perception up to 2x, thats a big factor. You can keep your ambush at 1x and still be good thought ambush factors into your AS with ranged like Perception. Boost your armor to 1x and keep going till you're 70 trains. thats all you'll need on it.

If you decide to go ranged you might want to take up fletching too. It took me 2 weeks or so before I could make master quality fletched arrows. Its awesome having a 9x-10x ability weapon at such an easily affordable price.

As an archer, you don't need every drop of AS as you do wielding a sword. If you're tight on points I would lower your ambush to maybe 1.5 or so, and remember you have plenty of setup spells to lower a creature's DS ( 607/610/612/615/616 ). Enjoy.

I don't know how well shadow mastery is working now as I've never used it before with my ranged ranger but mfire is a waste of CMAN points unless you happen to have an elemental bow. You'd have to keep a number of arrows in a bundle and have to take out, 2 or 3 depending how skilled you are, arrows from the bundle. If the bundle doesn't have the needed amount you can't use the action. Not to mention MFire is unaimed so chances are good that your attack won't kill it. Then until you get to 4th or 5th rank Mfire will take longer to shoot then it would take for your to shoot the same amount with accuracy.

Can anyone with experience on mfire let me know the difference between the ranks?

The help info on it doesnt explain the benefit of getting more than one rank. Or if it does, I missed it.

I think its somethine like 1 rank you can shoot 2 arrows at a high rt, 2 ranks 2 arrows at a slighly faster rt, 3 ranks you can shoot 3 arrows at some worthless RT, then at 4 it's faster, and 5 faster still.

Mfire is crap really, it won't let you fire arrows any quicker than you could individually.
