Hello everyone,

This sorceror was level 57 prior to my hiatus, the reallocation assigned his level to 48. I have returned and reallocated skills and stats as I see to be congruent with the current mechanics.
I have died on so many occasions (roa'ters, tree spirits, storm giants), my character seems weak in comparison to how I remembered him. (he is in fact weak in comparison, as I recorded his CS and DS and so forth) I can no longer read the runes to get into the broken lands, as I did before.

To me this is almost unplayable, but some advice would be very helpful, before I decide what to do.

Below are my current stats, skills and equipment.

You are holding a vultite-wound sturdy orase runestaff in your right hand.
You are wearing a crystal amulet, a sapphire glaesine orb, a gold ring, a mithril juggernaut pin, a small Silvergate pin, some soft black leather boots, a veniom-worked black silk gem pouch, a butterfly charm, some fitted myklian scale gloves, a dark hooded greatcloak, a midnight black flower, a tiny black velvet bag, a fancy purple hat, a necklace of bleached rat skulls, some purple trousers, a mottled albino toadskin belt and some blackened veniom-edged leather

You adjust your gear comfortably and feel satisfied that you are not encumbered enough to notice.

What you should do for maximum overall benefit is...well I don't know either. But the answer can be found here.

one of the biggest problems is you are spending way too many points.

You are gonna have to choose between 3x spells and lores. if you want to have 3x spells, nix all the lores (for now, train them back later).

At a minimum, you need to untrain that air and earth lore. You'll get nothing out of that. I'd bop your necromancy way down, and nix demon until you get back on your feet and learn what's what.

Also, depending on what kind of armor you wear, you may have way too much armor training. If that's full leather, you only need 4 ranks, if it's double you need 8.

I'd drop the survival if you are a CoL master. Skinning is hard, and you don't need that right now. Drop Climbing and swimming to like 10 each max. You won't need more until you go to the rift at 66 (if you go then).

Nix the dodging and combat maneuvers. WHen you are big and bad and can afford them, and be like Evarin, you can train all this, but to re-learn how to play, and for those lower levels, a few ranks here and there do nothing for you but rape your points.

Redo yourself to something like this:

2.5x spells
1x perception
Get your 4 ranks (or 8 of armor if Double)
2x spell aiming (less if you don't want to use Implosion focused or fire spirit)
1x Arcane Symbols (more later you wanna be scroll infuser and for other reasons)
1x Magic Item Use (more later you wanna be scroll infuser and for other reasons)
2x harness power
.5x+ spirital mana control, striving for 1x
.5x+ elemental mana control, striving for 1x

With any leftover points you have you can buy lores. Read up on the spell circle and learn which lores affect which spells, and what thresholds you need. You can decide how to balance necromancy and demonology.

Disclaimer: I sold my level 96 sorcerer almost a year ago now and haven't played one since. My advise it not perfect, but it will get you back to playability.

I happened to like:

2.5x or so spells (1x sorc, put points to spell goals in minors)
1x perception
Get your 4 ranks (or 8 of armor if Double)
2x spell aiming
1x Arcane Symbols
1x Magic Item Use
1.5x harness power
1x spirital mana control
1x elemental mana control
24 or so in PF
.3 climb and swim
Put into lore if you want

Yeah, forgot about physical fitness. I think that's a very viable training path.

Wow. Looking at your training made me cry for you. Your sorcerer needs a lot of help. If you want someone to go through everything with you, feel free to IM me at JesseREvans.

No really, that hurt. Tell me you let GSIV decide on your training for you?

Yes that was what it converted my old training to (for the most part, when I heard about runestaves and so forth I modified shield use and edged weapons), the only modification I did was on my stat attributes.

You might consider a shield/brawl combination as a training path for your sorcerer.

Otherwise keep the magic ratio involving runestaff build to a ratio of 9:1 or better.

What magics involve runestaff power?

All the magic skills. MIU, Arcane Symbols, Spells, the lores, mana control and Harness power.

The training plan I posted is for a Runestaff Sorcerer.

Spells, MIU, Arcane Symbols, Spell Aiming, Lores, SMC/EMC, Harness Power all count.

The training plan listed will give you about 10 ranks/level. Somewhere in there. It's just shy in DS of a s/b sorcerer. I dislike the s/b training plan, because, well, sorcerer DS isn't usually a problem. Our magics, when trained, are pretty damned powerful. At 40 something, you shouldn't have many mana problems from a good hunt. Unless the TD of the critter is way high, which happens. Undead are nice to kill... especially non-corporeal undead- 705 pwns them. 710 is also nice, if you don't care about wasting time, and have alot of spell aiming.

When I played runestaff, the fear factor was always a problem. It left me wide open and contributed to all my deaths. Went shield and brawl and hunt only in offensive unless casting curse in guarded. Only time I really get hurt is when I realize I forgot to take out my shield. You're less likely to get feared in offensive and don't have to stance dance bolt spells. Not sure if it's possible to have your shield disarmed or dropped, but it has yet to happen to me.

Very interesting posts,

I wonder how I would have played old style, edged weapon and shield.

Anyhow thanks for all the advice.

If you don't see my death message so much, then its worked.
