I will if I have to, but I don't know about this sword/shield bs.
also if I wanted to pick what should I do to make sure I could do it at the lowest lvl posible?

Give me a nice training plan please, and help me understand bards a bit :medieval:

Im not sure about bards, but rogues benefit from archery training, because perception is shared with picking. I've also heard that many high level rangers fire from the open as archers, so as another semi I suppose it's possible. I don't know what spells a bard is going to use though; so that could change things dramatically.

To be able to pick level 15-20ish stuff 100% of the time, you need about 50 ranks in disarm, picking, and perception (I know from my 15ish rogue). If you were thinking of holding off longer, figure a level 20 3x'd rogue can pick stuff up to 40, and go from there. I don't know if there are any archer-bards because that spell that makes a weapon out of air is so powerful; but if you're opposed to sword and board there's a large contingent of bards out there who use an air-lance as their attack. Anyways, I hope my post was helpful; Im sure some people who actually have bards will chime in soon.

When posting these type of threads it'd be helpful if you posted your training (so we know what you're comparing it to), which should include level, skills, and stats. Also try to read a few threads in the folder (they might not be visible, there is a dropdown to make them so, and go back a few months).

There are tons of different valid training plans, based on what you want to do, and they each have advantages/drawbacks, so if you say "do I need to" it's a good idea to mention what shortcomings your experiencing that would make you think you need to do anything. Obviously if you want to pick at the lowest level possible, fully 2xing picking/disarming and getting 403 would be the way to go, to be able to pick and be a viable hunter you would probably need to manage your TPs after 2xing Pick/Disarm carefully and that would likely be a Sword/Board build.

I never get anyone in here that really gives helps me when I post about a profession so I just go with the flow. I don't know a lot about this game now but I do know a bit.

I am well aware that I can look at posts that aren’t visible. I just don't know if the game has changed from the time they are posted to now. Please someone help me pick a class. show me what one of the classes I listed can do.

Sorry if you took offense to that, GSL, but seeing as how you're sort of a new poster here and you've taken a habit to bombarding the profession threads with ambiguous training advice requests. Really GS is very flexible in allowing for different training paths, now if you ask something like "what's the best minmaxed training" or "what's cookie-cutter for..." we can help you a lot better. If you look at your original question it's far to open ended and has no perspective.

As for the "play one character" jab, the little ":P" should have informed you that I was not serious, standard internet protocol applies, little smiley faces are like saying "with all do respect" and let you say anything you want, and italics indicate sarcasm. Hell, do whatever is fun, if you don't have fun past level 10, that's your deal... all these threads just give the impression you're not even waiting for a reply and rerolling your characters.

Now enough of that... first off think in terms of accomplishments, the whole thought of "1xing something" doesn't apply to all skills, 5 ranks of armor does you no better than 4 ranks, you're better off just waiting till you can get 8 ranks or other increments of 20 skill (some would argue (increments of 20) - 10, so 6 ranks). The air lore might not be useful for you at this level either, but with your current training plan I can't imagine you're really struggling so I don't know what you would want to do with the extra points.

So anything holding your charcter back? It looks good to me.

Thanks, I know you were just messing around. You made some good points, I am sorry for not being clear. I have been reading the other post from way back and I like the way this bard sounds. I think I should play him up to 20 before I stop, don't you agree?...

What do you think about TWC with short swords?

As a bard you can only sing one of the weapons for TWC. So be sure to consider that.

Also, characters can be pretty boring, training wise, until you get to level 30 or 40, so taking a char past 12 trainings would be a good idea in my opinion.

I would echo the sentiment of taking a character past 10-20 to get a real feel for it. Most of them can change dramatically depending on what/where you hunt. Some tactics dont work the same everywhere.

And I think Two weapon combat is something that alot of people really like to try, but can never accomplish as well as they should be. Its alot more viable now with dodging, but other paths are still much easier.

I think you need to give up on picking as a bard as well. Especially with the new changes, you most likely wont ever be able to pick your own level, and still have a viable way to hunt. Bards can be short on TPs if you try to spread out too much. You really need to focus on 2 things and thats about it.

Rogues are the most deversified of all the classes in my opinion. If you want to be able to open your own boxs, this would be one of the better ones to go with.

Wizards seem just fine, But I don't think I want to just shoot bolts of elements at people my whole life ya know? Swinging seems to be alot more fun, but what do I know. I don't know How it is higher up for a wizard or a bard, or anything for that matter.

So can you guys please post some logs of you hunting past like 30 up?
I want to see what they can do.

You will definatly want to train in MnE at some point anyway, 425 is just way too good, bards can produce great DS so they don't need to rely on their semi-dux. As for stat placement, it really depends on how long you plan on playing the character and if you would want to get a stat-reallocation later, I would say that his STR is too high and you would want to spread the points out a bit (CON or LOG/INT) because it'll cap too soon and CON is slow growing as an elf. (The few missed points of AS won't really hurt you, everyone's all "highest AS possible", but it doesn't make that much of a difference).

Skills look good, you should be able to slow down on armor a bit next rank (which allows for leather breastplate), and stop physical training at max hps. Again the air lore won't do you much good until you've got spellsongs that take advantage of it. Use the extra points to get some MnE ranks (401 is a free easy 5DS) if that's the way you want go.

Should I worry about using 1006(song of luck) at lower trains, what does it really do any way? Will it help with flares?

Unless you're using a skill, there is no point in training in it ASAP. I believe there is a nice guide on ThePonzzz's site... www.gsguide.net (http://www.gsguide.net) about training for goals, not for skill. If you think of it this way, You just hit level 25 and you can afford to train in 48 spell ranks... would you be better having 1024 and 424, or would you be better with 1025/423 or 1023/425 ... obviously you're better off getting to a rank with benefit instead of "averaging" your skills.

Stats do look better, yes, as for what armor, depends on how combat oriented vs spell oriented your build is, as a bard you want to stay away from any armor with head coverage, going up an armor class is (almost) always nice, because of the DF change and it gives your head the coverage below it... depending on if you're taking a beating arm coverage would be good to keep you fighting. For now get into LBP (60 armor skill for hinderance) and see how you fair, when you've got the points to move up, do so, but getting yourself into torso chain+ is a ways off.

I have changed to pole, I want to use a spear, I like the RP and the way it looks. I don't think I want to use a Lance later but will If I have to. Is it just me or does anyone else find it dumb to use a lance without a horse?

And I have looked, no one talks about trip does anyone even use it anymore?:wtf:

It certainly seems efficient to me, one swing for 5(2) seconds, or two swings for 6(3) seconds seems like a no brainer if you're not crit killing everything in a hit.

I would never mstrike in OTF with a greatsword, but I focus mstrike with a bastard sword (what I hunt with 95% of the time) all the time.

Once you pick up 425 and can run kai's, one-handers become more useful. A sonic broadsword or falchion still pack a decent punch. A lot of bards use short swords as well, relying on generating more flares due to the lower speed of the weapon.

Twohanders are overkill in OTF, except on a seer with WOF up (a one-hander getting a lucky flare could kill a seer just as fast) or a construct (as shown in the log). I doubt any onehander could crit kill a construct.

Is generating DS hard for bards in OTF, if they're polearmers or twohanders?

I have some young(er) bards, around 20-35ish, who're having wicked trouble now with DS issues, though if they get the first strike in they're pretty good.
