a gold-veined glowbark seige arbalest
SHOW: You see a gold-veined glowbark seige arbalest which is cocked and loaded with a blade-tipped slender black bolt.
Crafted from a fine piece of glowbark, the seige arbalest has been meticulously sanded, stained a deep black, and polished to a high gloss by a skilled elven bowyer. A narrow channel runs down the length of the tiller and its dusted with bits of golden fletchings. A well-oiled pulley and tackle constructed from vaalorn is designed for the rapid cocking and discharging of missiles. You also notice a small enchanter's glyph.
-+27 heavy crossbow
-Generates self ammo bolts which are +10 so total AS when using this item is +37
-Cocks in 3 seconds flat no matter on your STR (regular crossbows cock for 6 as minimum)
-Fires in 2 seconds flat no matter your STR (3 if you aim)
-Mechanical flares that flare EVERY lodged shot in the same location the bolt hit (if you shoot the head it'll flare on the head)
With self haste, a haste imbed, or a perma haste item this item owns.
Any questions PM me.

Was wondering if you could enchant the bolts with premie points or something.
You have any idea about that?
GS4-D
05-11-2007, 11:40 PM
I spoke with Khaladon about this actually. It'll cost something stupid, like 7200 PPs to get it to shoot at +42, 5 more than what it's at now because he said it'd have to be ETd as a whole, not just the xbow or just the bolts.
4200 to get it to +42, 1000 since it's scripted, 1000 since it flares, 1000 for special GM time
AestheticDeath
05-11-2007, 11:50 PM
sounds odd.. if it goes up by 5, but it enchants both?
GS4-D
05-11-2007, 11:52 PM
I'm not understanding your last question. What 5? What Khaladon said for this item, it would be broken down as I stated earlier as he took over these bows after the GM who designed the bows left. Initially I thought I could just enchant the xbow to +32 to have a cheaper cost, but he didn't see it that way.
AestheticDeath
05-12-2007, 12:02 AM
+37 now - you said it would go up by +5, for +42 total, at a cost of 7200
but khaladon said it would enchant both the crossbow and the bolt - so how do you enchant both but only go up by 5?
GS4-D
05-12-2007, 12:05 AM
Ok I see what you mean, I guess I just said it wrong. The way ETing via PP works is that the enchant would boost the combined xbow+bolt boost by +5.

There ya go. Personally I would not think it nice for them to exist... I'm just curious if one does, or if GS4-D was just refering to a haste imbed w/ unlimited (self-mana) charges.

By perma haste I mean self mana haste items. There's a few such items around, which pretty much makes you perma hasted since you don't have to pay for imbeds, all you do is rub it to get hasted again. With PsiNet or a good background script on Lich you can have that haste refresh script keeping you perma hasted.
And there is no wizard that hunts with me. When I hunted, I hunted solo with haste imbeds.
GuildRat
05-21-2007, 11:59 AM
I tried...heh. But you're right, at first I was a bit lost. I'm thinking he has a mage rechargeable or hunts with his wizard (as I see in the barrier alot, not that there's anything wrong with that).
The item, as stated, still rocks, even without the haste. I endure 9 seconds of RT (hide and ambush) just because I'm too lazy to recharge my imbeds most times.

Hrm, so the group I've seen you in didn't include a wizard? I'm not starting an argument, but I've seen you in OTF with a wizard, and I'm not going to name names. If he wasn't hasting you, that's fine. Like I say, I'm not trying to crawl under your skin, ol man.

I hunted with a wizard friend on and off, yes. It wasn't an every hunt thing, let alone a daily thing. I didn't have him haste me as he was busy enough keeping himself hasted and killing things.
If you further doubt my statement, check with Porteous and the 200k per week I used to pay him for haste imbeds.

I was the wizard he occassionally hunted with and I can say that like GS4-D said, I was busy tackling my own issues during those hunts.
What I'm failing to understand is why you're seemingly having a hard time understanding that using magic items can help you a great deal with a ranged weapon. Instead of understanding this simple mechanic you're making an attempt to present an arguement that would seem to suggest that GS4-D is trying to pull a Tsin or something.

Talk about a pointless argument.. Having a wizard to perma haste you is one of the best things you can possibly do.. Anyone who makes fun of a haste slave is jealous cause they are either too stupid to hunt two characters at once or too poor to afford a decent wizard.

I see it as being pointless more because I was merely pointing out that the 1 sec RT was based on being hasted. I don't think I openly insulted anyone here in this particular thread.
3 seconds is great for cocking and firing a crossbow, especially with the flares it has.

Or actually enjoy playing games witout it on easy mode. Or without the cheat codes punched in.
You know I once thought to actually get to your level Tsin you'd need some kind of intelligence. However looking over the years now and at your comments (like how a self-mana 117 axe would be great for the new 118 changes) I realize that you really are just a stupid bastard who got one too many pennies from Daddy's wallet.

Well, let's do that; let's look at your posts:
1. You make a false assumption about his hunting with a wizard.
2. You insinuate that GS4-D is lying in post #19.
3. You then state that you're not trying to argue with GS4-D about his hunting tactics, which is exactly what you're doing.
Most of my previous post was full of sarcasm without the italics of course. I understand that you like the bow, but you padded your posts with statements like: I've seen you using haste and I've seen you with a ("your") wizard, therefore you must be using something most people do not have, which is false, because he was using imbeds. At least that's the conclusion I drew from your post. In all honesty, post #19 is where I started getting a little agitated. Why in the world would you ask someone if they were sure they were hunting with a wizard or not and that you didn't want to name names? That post, to me, was rather combative and provocative and since it involved me, I figured I’d give my assessment on your commentary.

First off, before I get agitated...
I think the crossbow is an awesome item.
Second
It seemed there was some confusion on the RT associated. That and I stated he must be using an imbed or "his wizard". If it's not his character...so what?
Thirdly
He's hunted OTF with someone completely able to haste him.
Fourthly
I said that was fine with me.
Fiftly...if that's a word
If your character was involved...I give a fuck.
And Lastly
I was not wrong or leading anyone astray by saying that he was hasted, whether it be by an item or a person.
You've drawn your conclusions on the false premise that I'm busting him out, which I have no reason to do.

You kept implying that he was being hasted by a wizard when he hunts, even though he kept saying otherwise.

There were 2 posts, he hunts with Jullius. Jullius is capable of hasting him. If he's using imbeds that's fine...if Jullius is hasting him that's fine. The point was, he's not using a perma haste item, other than imbeds or a wizard.
How hard is that to understand?
I'm not undermining his item, nor am I trying to flame his hunting tactics.

Whether or not something's fine with you really has no bearing on the fact that you were insinuating him to be a liar. Unless there's something special about the crossbow, it has the potential to knock you out of hiding. I believe that chance is based on your hiding skill ranks or bonus.

The siren lizard hisses, sure it has missed something.
>fire arb at liz
You fire a blade-tipped slender black bolt at a siren lizard!
AS: +518 vs DS: +173 with AvD: +33 + d100 roll: +34 = +412
... and hit for 121 points of damage!
Shot knocks the siren lizard's head back by pushing on the inside of the skull!
The siren lizard falls to the ground and dies.
The bolt crumbles into tiny fragments when it strikes the ground.
Roundtime: 4 sec.
>sea liz

You come out of hiding.
You search the siren lizard.
It had 85 silvers on it.
You gather the remaining 85 coins.
It had nothing else of value.
A siren lizard decays into compost.
The message about it already being cocked is apparently a bug, because I've tried to fire it without cocking it, and I can't, yet it says that message every time I cock it.
(I don't know what bug he's referring to, when I hunted with it and cocked it it didn't give that 'It's already cocked' message as my logs showed)

Auctions on marketplace BBS. It's at 54m right now.
You do indeed stay hidden when cocking it:
>hide
Roundtime: 3 sec.
You attempt to blend with the surroundings and feel confident that no one has noticed your doing so.
You cock your glowbark seige arbalest. A blade-tipped slender black bolt materializes at your arbalest's nock, loaded and ready to fire.
Roundtime: 3 sec.
But the glowbark seige arbalest is already cocked.
You may have no experience with archery, but you can cock any crossbow while remaining hidden. The person was asking if you automatically stay hidden with this crossbow, which I highly doubt. Is the character you are showing the clip from here a rogue or a ranger? Reloading while hidden is based on your hiding ranks, certain spells, and all the other hiding modifiers (race, etc.).
Cocking a crossbow once and remaining hidden in no way leads me to believe that the crossbow has some special property in regards to reloading while hidden. I could do that with any store bought crossbow.

If you'd read all these posts, you'd come to the realization that the character I played was an archer. I didn't bother with hiding as he was post capped and hiding was a waste of TPs.
The person who was shown in that screenshot was a ranger, yes. I'll have a sorc try it next.

Then why would you post one clip of cocking a crossbow while in hiding as if that proves anything? The only way you could prove that the loading the crossbow while hidden had anything to do with the crossbow would be via loresong, or having characters with 0 hiding ranks trying to load while hidden.
That's the only reason I assumed you knew nothing about archery--because you posted one clip as if that proved anything at all, and claimed that loading this crossbow wouldn't remove people from hiding.

The person was asking if you automatically stay hidden with this crossbow
Er... My fault for not clarifying entirely.
The question was a SPECIFIC "can you stay hidden with THIS specific crossbow" or more completely: "do the special properties have any negative impact on the ability to stay hidden"
The question was not "do you always stay hidden" and I apologize for the misunderstanding not clarifying my question has caused.
THIS specific crossbow has special cocking properties that cause you to cock in 3 seconds no matter what, thus I wanted to know if those special properties prevented ability to stay hidden in any way (perhaps because it was a bit noisier, being mechanical)
This has been answered as nay, and I thank you for doing the research.
and claimed that loading this crossbow wouldn't remove people from hiding.
I think he was proving it didn't automatically "no-matter-what" remove you from hiding, which answered my original question.
Theres no real use in asking the "do you stay hidden no matter what" question... if you lack the hiding to stay hidden while cocking, you simply lack the hiding to remain hidden from a rudimentary sniff to begin with.
Though if you're feeling adventurous, you could go hide in front of a kobold with no hiding and see if you can pull off a cock before he sniffs you out, not that the answer really matters to me much.
Again, thank you for doing the research, and sorry for any misunderstanding my lack of clarification has caused.
