What is a good type of edged for ambushing? I've heard longsword...

Shortsword or dagger, for the excellent roundtime.

Longsword for the decent DF.

Thanks - I'll look into a Shortsword and some daggers

Krolvin Backslasher? I remember those used to be good back in the day. May suck now though...

I wouldn't ever say a longsword is good in GS4 anymore.

Back when it was faster, sure. But now, you might as well use a broadsword or axe(same speed).

But yea, short sword, dagger, scimitar(if you can find a decent one) are great. Or you can be different and find a HCW rapier.

Ambushing with an axe or any 6 sec RT weapon is fine if your DS can handle it, or if you're not in swarms. Short swords will buy you a 1 sec reprieve but the DF just isn't there. Daggers....heh...use only on critters in soft armors for sure.

I haven't played a ohe rogue in a while, but I've always liked falchions; they're in abundance, the RT isn't terrible, they have good DF, and they don't puncture (which lets you hunt all the golems).

I would go with a weighted rapier, as that is just cool.

A weighted rapier is still a pretty terrible weapon, unless it's got a huge amount of weighting...and even then, heh.

Kind of like those 4x masterfully crit weighted quarterstaves.

I wonder why they made some weapons flat out crappy. As in, no one would use them outside of RP.

Scimitars pop to mind.

Daggers if you're a bit older and accurate. Short swords are possibly a good substitute.

The main issue is weapon quality. There are very few daggers of value in the game. I can think of only a handful valued over 50 million. Short swords fare little better, but the backslashers are a much more common weapon.

At the end of the day, go with what you can best afford.

My favorite edged weapon was the falchion. It offered a great overall average AvD against varying armor types and what I used for many levels from 30ish to 60ish. (veniom hilted falchion - 5x somewhat damage weighted)

When I was younger and up against cloth or light armor foes or beasts with no armor I used a longsword with flares (tarnished rolaren longsword - 5x cold flares)

When I got older I moved over to a waraxe due to coming up against heavier armor types.

Now I stick arrows in their eyes. ;)

I'm trying to decide what to get for my Rogue...

Dunno if I should get a dagger/short sword with either some type of flares or damage weighting. Optimally, I'd like to get a krolvin backslasher, but the only one I've seen for sale is for 4.5 mil and I'd prolly only have 1.5 mil.

I was also thinking about getting a falchion with either flares or damage weighting, but I'd really like a short sword for the shorter RT.

Any suggestions as to whats better?

Well if your a ambush rogue to me elemental flares and the likes are kinda lame being as your goal is to kill the thing not bleed it out. If you go for flares look for the shortswords or daggers with mechanical flares, mainly piercing. Then if they flare its a piercing wound wherever you landed the shot ... could turn a eye scratch into a brain poke.

Alternatively, pick up archery. ;)

Get a flaring waraxe if you've relatively no silver.
Should have gone claid though. Completely owns.

Don't mechanical flares always hit the area for which you are aiming? That would make a 4x mechanical dagger or falchion/short sword quite appealing in that regard.

Always hit the place the shot lands. They're not usually enchanted too well I don't think.

I think they basically double strike the same area you hit...aimed or not, unless that part, say an arm or leg is gone prior to the flare. I think it bcomes random at that point. I've never used one, but a mech. flaring dagger would be fun to play with.

Yeah. In terms of flares, I have yet to see a better one that mechanical flares. They VERY often hit damn hard. I was hunting with someone with a 4x Mech flaring falchion and it was a tough choice to start using an 8x ice flaring one because we had to give up those permanent Jovyn(?) flares.

Great premium point investment to bump it up a bit.

They've been offered at merchants, you just have to find them for sale.
