Returning archer

I'm planning on making my return to the game within the next month or so, but the cman changes have made me second guess myself. I don't have access to my stats, but as a halfling with max strength bonus, Surge became a pretty essential hunting tool. Is there anyone playing a similar character that can give any insight? I'm thinking just upping to 4 ranks should offset my bonus loss..but again, I just don't have the numbers. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I play a halfling archer. Basically you're fucked unless you're 50+ in level. You need lots of Stamina to keep Surge running. And you need to keep surge running.

Couldn't you just not use a longbow? Short or Compound aren't going to make you unplayable I would imagine...

I don't use a longbow. Composite, with surge, and max strength is still barely enough.
