WASHINGTON -- The maker of Listerine is recalling one of its rinses after tests showed it was contaminated with microorganisms.

A Johnson & Johnson spokeswoman said a company unit is recalling 4 million bottles of the recently launched Listerine Agent Cool Blue plaque-detecting rinse, marketed primarily for use by children.

The recall affects the Glacier Mint and Bubble Blast flavors.

The company said tests showed contamination, despite the use of preservatives. However, the company said there have be no reports of health problems from the contamination.

The affected rinses have been sold in supermarkets, drug stores, mass merchants and other retail outlets, and it's sold to dental professionals' offices nationwide. Johnson & Johnson is contacting dental professionals and retailers directly as part of their recall notification process.

Consumers are advised to stop using the product and throw it away.

Consumers can get full refund by calling the company at 1-888-222-0249 and mailing in the back label, including the UPC code.

Dude, it's for like 6 year old kids.

And I actually have a bottle that I have used once - it's a terrible product.

Yeah the original flavor puts hair on your chest... it's extremely entertaining to give to kids (er... I imagine, I haven't done that... my dad did that to me, and I can't imagine he didn't enjoy my displeasure in how I couldn't taste anything for a week)

I agree that Vanilla Mint is not what i look for in a mouthwash. it could be worse i suppose, it could be salmon flavored.

So what is the lesson? Never swallow Listerine contaminated or not.

Ah, maybe he was talking about Fresh Burst, which isn't so bad. I haven't tried Beef Jerky or Salmon (wtf?), and Natural Citrus is for wimps.

I like natural citrus listerine. :(

Listerine is also really good at making you throw up if you swallow it. I guess the idea was that the bacteria would implant in your fertile mouth and go to town, or something.

In some places they sell Listerine behind the counter because homeless alcoholics will steal it and drink it. It's got just enough alcohol to hold off the DTs.

I use the citrus one. Yep, I'm a wimp. I don't like the intensity of the other ones.

I got the Vanilla Mint at home actually. It was on sale one week and I had a coupon. It's not bad really. And as for the original, I don't need any more hair on my chest, drinking whiskey with my dad at like age 11 took care of that and the balls.

Someone bought Vanilla Mint at my house. It sound kind of gross but the vanilla isn't very noticeable. It's not bad.

Haha. I only led off with 'someone at my house bought it' because I thought it sounded nasty too.

Well when I don't have listerine, am I suppose to gargle with cat piss and brush my teeth with the lime build up in my tub/toliet?
