Over the last week or two, I keep getting more and more of this AIM spam. Its driving me fucking bonkers and getting WAY outta control. These people change SN's every 30-40 min, and spam everyone on their "list" with IM's offering free access to porn sites and crap. The problem is..there is no way outta it..you can't request to be removed from their list, you can't block them, nothin..

Set up your AIM so you block anyone NOT on your list. Or change your SN.

I never have that problem because everyone who is not on my buddy list cannot IM me. May be difficult for those who get my SN from others, but I figure if they don't already have it, they don't need it.

I don't block, and I don't receive any of those IMs... unless I'm on AOL, in which case, I receive one every 5 seconds.

Well simple reason for aol spam... aol is a form of porn itself!

The people that SPAM via IMs look for certain keywords in the AOL member profiles (using the AOL member directory) and screen names for certain terms. I actually had the word "coins" (referring to GS coins) in part of my profile. Some guy sent me a few messages asking if I had any collecitble coins for sale. Works the same way with porn as well.
Another thing that they do is capture all the screen names of people in AOL chatrooms. This doesn't just apply to porn related chatrooms. If you enter any chatroom that's being watched, you will almost always start seeing SPAM in your InBox and start getting IM SPAM as well.
My advice would be to change your screen name, don't create an AOL profile, and don't enter any public or well known private chatrooms. Great world we live in, isn't it?

No, you're thinking of Michiko. She sent me to a bad site a few days ago and warped my fragile mind.

Precisely, i've never been an AOL user, always some form of broadband. And at one point 56k as thats all that was available at the time. Once again, never had that problem, don't use your AOL e-mail address when filling out registration forms. Hell i made a shiesty Hotmail account for that lol
Oh my mistake. I forgot who that was that posted that insanely disgusting picture in the chat room.

I knew at one point there was a company being sued because they were sending E-mails to cell-phones (which are charged by the text message).
Shame these people change thier AIM names so quick, if I was on AIM through my cell and got one of those messages, I'd love to stick it to em.
1800 free text messages a month, and all I get are my daily weather, and two daily stock quotes.
sad.
