Just did a quicky google on it, a metric ton is actually 2240 pounds.

Drew2
11-18-2003, 04:00 PM
It is impossible. I believe males can only be healthy and reach a minimum of like 6 or 8% (not sure which). Anything lower is malnutrition.

Women is something like 12% I think.

It's not impossible, Herschal Walker (Old Eagles RB) had 3 percent, and he was like 250 lbs, lol. I don't know if it is really 3%, I'm just saying it is low.. I wrestled during HS so cutting weight kept it off (Not that i had to cut much, lol) And now I box and have been eating a ton and lifting heavy to keep building muscle.

5'5.5" and 125 pounds? Okay - if you HONESTLY think that means you're a) short and b) overweight enough to feel the need to explain where all the weigh is...

Then you have a seriously unhealthy body image and should probably visit your resident psychiatrist.

My skinniest as an adult was 122 pounds, at my current 5'2.5" inches in height. And I felt lousy. I had a flat stomach, a flat ass, way too much space between my thighs, and bony elbows and shoulders. BLECH.

At 147 pounds I think I'm out of shape and need to get more exercise..but if I got down to 130 I'd be exactly where I want to be.

Then again, I think skinny women are unattractive. Thighs are supposed to be a little wobbly - helps to hold his head in place better <wink wink nudge nudge> And women with 6-pack abs are ... vomitous. Women are supposed to have some roundness to their bodies. Not as much as mine maybe..but certainly not that skin and bones shit you see on magazine covers. Who the hell would want to cuddle up with THAT at night? You'd risk those hipbones digging a hole in your spine or something. Blech blech blech.

add 10% overall if you got big bones..

Works for you? works for me

Yes, I think I'm short, because everyone else in my family is 5'10" or taller, including my mother.

Nowhere in that post did I mention that I think I'm overweight, and if you think I implied it, than you're wrong. What I said about my butt being where all the weight is... well, the truth is, I have a rather large derriere. It was a JOKE.

some people are made to be thin, if you work out, you'll have definied muscles, but remain thin. That's just that

At 14 i was already weighting 180, and i wasn't that fat!

A can of Boost added to each meal, and combined with exercise (correctly done), will help add those pounds you are seeking, Greys. Muscle weighs more than fat, as well; therefore, as you gain muscle and lose fat, your weight will increase. :)

Eat more calories than you expend. Simple as that.

Don't take that to mean eat at McDonald's every day. Cut back on 'bad' fats, and don't overdo the carbs. For you I'd just say eat bigger portions of everything. Drink one blended fruit drink, with yogurt and ice cream a day too.

Also...eat often. 3 meals a day won't cut it. Keep around something to snack on (tuna and low saturated fat pretzels are what I munch on usually).

No, that doesn't work AT ALL. At my height, according to your little theory, I'd need to be 112.5 pounds. Less actually, since I'm petite-boned and not merely short. Lemme tell ya something..if I EVER got that skinny, blech. I wouldn't ever get that skinny. That's disgusting. At 122 I felt tired all the time. My doctor said he couldn't find anything wrong other than losing weight at a very fast pace, but if I went down to 120 he'd put me in the hospital and give me every test available to find out why.

Fortunately I started gaining the weight back and maintained 135 til I lost my job at the phone company and became a couch potatoe.

Bestatte
11-18-2003, 06:43 PM
Slim is great. Skinny is not. Skinny is just as unhealthy as obese. I'm overweight, but according to my doctor, I'm still in the range of "normal" for my height and bone structure. At the upper part of normal, granted, but still normal. Age is also a factor - as you age, some of your muscle deteriorates, and your skin loses its elasticity. So you'll gain a bit here and there. If you also lose your appetite (something that happens as you get up in the years), you might even find yourself losing weight instead of gaining it. I'm not old enough for that yet, so I'm at the "heavy" stage in my life. Though at one point I weighed in at a whopping 160 pounds. That was just as unhealthy as if I weighed 112 or 115.

120 should be pretty normal for someone of my height and bone structure, but at the thin side of normal. Standards change, what is considered normal today is a far cry from what was once considered normal.

I think skinny LOOKS sickening. It LOOKS unhealthy. Just as being obese LOOKS sickening and unhealthy. And I think that people who are obsessed with their weight, whether too much or too little, have a problem with their body image.

I'll return the sentiment to you..

5'2.5" and 112lbs is not okay. It is a bad weight. I don't know where you get off thinking that being heavier is bad. Get off YOUR high horse.

Ladyteeoncy
11-18-2003, 06:47 PM
I dont think age causes you to be heavy and stuff... You just have to work harder... There are 60 year olds that are in better shape then I am! Its all on how bad you want to take care of your body... as long as it is healthy and in your weight range it shouldnt really matter... I think you should stay in shape to be healthy not to be pretty. I used to just want to stay in shape to be pretty but if you think that you will be discouraged... you have to do it for yourself.

Yeesh, unless a person is incredibly over or under weight it will vary from person to person.

How you carry yourself transforms a blah person into an oh my goodness kind of person quite easily.

I'm pretty tall at about 6'(not sure where all the height came from as sisters are 5'5" and 5'4" ) but my weight has fluxuated alot since finishing high school. I got so used to being able to eat anything due to growing upward that when that finally stopped I put on weight but due to remainng active I personally thought I never looked bad, just heavier than I had been before.

So final height of 6' and weight varying between the seasons at the moment of 155-160.

My prego weight is *cough* 195 *cough*. My thighs touch, I do have some "cottage cheese" as one person said. I have some lovely stretch marks on my belly. My boobs rock and my ass will always be fantastic.

First of all, 5'1" and 120 pounds sounds pretty decent to me. Healthy, not stick-skinny anorexic. Second of all, my doctor didn't say I was obese. He said I was at the high end of normal. Try reading what I write before responding to it.

My concern is that too many women, partiularly, are so obsessed with their weight that we have anorexics and obese women in high proportions in this country, and it's a national sickness caused by the media and pharmaceutical companies pushing their skinny models and diet pills down our throats.

My apologies, I just reread your post and you said you are overweight not obese. For that I apologize, However, everything else I said still stands. There are plenty of reasons that people are either overweight or skinny as you put it. We are not the ones to judge that about them and you honest come across as a very insecure person when you feel the need to degrade someone else for how much they weigh. Yes I do agree, media and magazines have given general society the idea that being bone thin is the way to go. However there are just as many 'big' women out there who model and that is proof that not everyone follows the general society view of what is sexy as a weight. I think if you put the time you spend talking poorly of people who are 'skinny' and 'obese' into something else you might just find yourself surprised. I dont think any of us are perfect.

Hmm.. this isn't exactly in response to Beastette's thing but.. to be obese is actually very very bad. Overweight and obese are two different things. Obese is to the point where you are harming yourself and sometimes, as my dad says, it's just food and you have to stop yourself to save yourself. But.. like being 5'7 or 5'10 and 200 pounds, isn't bad.

Actually..I am overweight.. and I'd love to lose some weight. However, I don't think it's disgusting. Nor do I think that skinny people are sickening to look at. My problem is that I don't exercise enough which is ironic considering i chase 3 kids all over most of the time. However I could also stand to change my diet. My point is this.. it's not right for anyone to degrade someone for their weight whether it be skinny or big. There very well may be reasons that that person is like he or she is and we would not have any way of knowing that.

I agree it is a health hazard. If I was that overweight I would most likely have to make some drastic changes, whether that be a change in diet adn excersize or a medical solution if need be or maybe all three.. but you aren't degrading people who are obese. That is what bothers me so much.

I tend to side with Bestatte on this one.. I'm in the entertainment area, as well as in health care. I started off at 221 pounds, which was way too much. Back when I was singing in New York, I was 113-120 pounds. I was sickly skinny to me. I was also eating saltine crackers and popcorn. I came back from New York and people would say, "Oh my god, you look great!" Meanwhile, I was starving myself. I went way up after some stressful things in life, a bad relationship and my dad getting sick..but I'm back on track. I actually in the last 5 months of my fathers terminal illness I lost about 25 pounds..heh. Odd, but I just lost my appetite.

I went to far the other end, granted, but now I'm right in the middle, which is much more comfortable for me. I think I'd be happy with myself at about 135-140. I'm almost there, maybe 30 pounds or so. My doctor is happy, though..so I suppose it's good. I've always exercised in some way, so I've never been sick, even if the doctor considered me really overweight..

I took offense to some of the statements Bessette said. My good friend is very skinny and she can't gain weight to save her life, she has tried. She is very healthy and its her metabolism, she comes from a family of skinny people. I also have a friend who is heavy, she has dieted and dieted, but can't keep the weight off. She comes from a family of heavy people. They are both attractive people who carry themselves well and look great. We are all different and we have to rejoice in our differences and accept each other no matter what our weight is. To say someone looks disgusting because of appearance is in my opinion disgusting. I myself have been on both sides, I used to get.. oh you have such a pretty face, to bad your fat.. to now, you need to gain alittle weight, skinny makes you look older. BAH... I say I feel great and I like where I'm at so stuff it.

How vain are all you people? Or how hard are you trying to hide your own inadequacies?

I have a really hideous scar on my leg. It's sickening to look at it, I recognize this fact, and I'm fine with it. I don't get all kinds of upset when people stare and make faces and whisper to their friends, "Eww that looks gross!" Because hey - it does look gross.

The same with my opinion of how I think skinny is sick and unhealthy looking, and obese is sick and unhealthy looking. It doesn't mean I think the person who's skinny or obese is a bad person, or someone I wouldn't want to be friends with.

Ylena's a good example. She's a beautiful lady. Heart of gold, sense of humor to envy, good-natured, and comfortable with herself. But yes, she's very overweight, and yes, I personally find that unattractive. Does it make me unkind to say that? Could be. I somehow doubt Ylena's player will take offense though, because she knows that I'm not such a snob that I'd consider her weight as a detriment to my opinion of her as a human being.

If YOU take offense at my opinion that skinny and obese is unattractive, then maybe YOU should take a deeper look at yourself and ask yourself why.

Your posts at times have a tone as if you bring tidings and directives from Olympus or something. That doesn't often bode well for a warm reception.

Bestatte i think your perceptions on ideal weight are skewed by your own personal inadequacies or preferences however you look at it. So please don't try and pass it off on us. Everyone has their opinion on what looks good. Not everyone is comfortable with a layer of padding, just as some people are.

I could easily call alot of people fat or overweight based upon my own personal beliefs for what *I* should be, but i don't becuse i realize that not everyone is the same or has the same standards.

So please stop trying to pass off your personal beliefs as gospel, because i can only speak for myself when i say it gets fucking old.

Long missed are the highschool days when my pant length would be higher then my pant width.

And, I could say "Oh yeah, gonna lose that weight, gym, etc." but I'd be lying. Cajun Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo and good chili (no, not together) are my weakness.

So, everyone else who's said that they think skinny is unattractive, and everyone else who's taken potshots at people for being overweight in other threads..how come no one's railing against them?

In fact, why does this thread even exist? Why should anyone care how tall or short or fat or thin anyone is? Seems to me like the whole thread exists to compare, and get peoples' opinions on what they consider normal.

If people don't like my opinion on what's normal, then they can stop creating threads like this or reading them.

I agree, a lot of people are hypocrite.

Don't take anything personal, it's internet, you aren't supposed to get piss from people you will never met and have any experience with though.

You are in your 30's if i remember correctly, then you know how is the real world out there, just accept it

People with difficulties in their physical appereance have a big minus, it is that simple

While I can't speak for the original poster of this thread, I do know that he works out quite a bit and there have been threads on body-building that he's participated in. It could be that he wanted to get an idea of other people's weight/height.

You have your right to an opinion. But just know that your opinion may upset other people. Maybe if you would have stated that "I don't prefer obese or super-thin people" or something like that, people wouldn't have reacted so harshly.

When one makes a blanket statement putting down a large number of people, expect people to come down on that person. Even if the people aren't, in this case, obese/super-thin - they may know someone, or care about someone who is.

Bellydancing huh? I've heard that's supposed to be awesome exercise. I have a hoola-hoop that I bought for the same purpose a few years back, maybe I should start using it again. Total body aerobic workout, zero impact. It even strengthens the muscles along your toes and your jaw. The hardest part is keeping the damned thing up, but I grew up with hoola-hoops so I was lucky to learn how to keep it from falling for awhile.

I had a friend who was awesome - she'd swing two hoops going in different directions around her waist, one around her neck, one on each wrist, and hop over another one around her ankle all at the same time.

Hm. Maybe that's what contributed to her going crazy..all that shaking around like that. Spunky little thing she was too. 4'11" and 89 pounds, skin and bones. She kinda looked like a snake-lizard with a long torso and little legs and gangly arms. She was my best friend for a decade though. I just wish she didn't go crazy. I miss her.

Yeah I own about 6 bellydance tapes ranging from aerobic workouts to simple how-to tapes. I was using at least one everyday for a good 30 minute workout. On nice days I'd walk around the block for an hour instead.

I've also convinced myself to use portion control when eating. I use to eat an eat and eat until I was overstuffed. I still eat junkfood and fast food but I regulate myself.

I now wear a size 9/10 and I'm happy with that. Not to mention I joined a juggling club (go ahead and laugh) but we use all kinds of props and some of them give you a great upper body workout.

Sounds good to me lol I just do regular stuff i suppose.. weights and riding my bike 30 miles a day keeps me in decent shape, though as i said before losing weight because you can't afford to eat on a daily basis severly sucked.

Thirty miles isnt an ungodly distance by any means when riding a bike.

Poppycock that's awesome! Once the snow starts to melt (it's too cold for me - bad circulation) I'm gonna get new tires for my bicycle and go riding again. And get my hoola-hoop out of the garage (though I could probably use it in the living room without breaking the furniture).

As for portion control, I'm not a very big eater. I mean, I -can- easily scarf down a whole small bacon pizza in one sitting, but I don't order them more than a few times a year.

It's lack of exercise that gets me. I wouldn't mind the 147 pounds so much if they were tighter than they are now. But I know that if I start moving more, the pounds will slide off and I'll be back to a size 11. It's funny though - no matter how thin I get, my boobs still prevent me from wearing button-down shirts.

I hate that. At 122 pounds, I was wearing a size 8 pants, and if I wanted a button-down shirt I had to wear a 14. And of course those shirts fall off my neck, the waist tucks were at my hips, and the arms had to be rolled up a few times.

That's the one bad thing about being buxom - finding *petite* clothes that fit.

Right now though I'm still doing fine in a size 13, and while I'd like to get that down to an 11 I'm not all that concerned. I've gone up and down in weight since college, so I know my metabolism will eventually kick in again and the pounds will come off anyway. Seems to happen every 4 or 5 years.

I hate aerobics, kickboxing (no contact) can be fun, but I have a hard time sticking with an exercise routine. I get bored very easily.

Bellydancing sounds great! I never thought about it. What a great way to shimmy my way back into my pre-maternity clothes after the bundle arrives.

Thanks for the idea!

I'll have to chime in with my agreement with Bastette, at least partially. The point she was trying to make was a valid one though it took a back seat to her usual, blunt, untactful, and condescending way of putting things. Which reminds me, stop stealing my act.

The diet industry is a multi billion dollar one. They have a very strong interest in making sure Americans consider themselves fat whatever they might actually weigh. Fortunately, it seems the tide has turned a bit after the extreme 'ideal' of the 90s. Anyone else remember Kate Moss and heroin chic? That was the strung out, starving junkie about to overdose look that was so fashionable then.

Which is not to say the problem is not there any longer. How many people knew that there are web pages out there that promote anorexia and bulimia as a way of life? Support groups for people who starve and purge as a way to stay thin. Sad really.

Yeah at first 30 miles was a bit, after i lost my car i just adopted a more regular cycling regime. 30 miles going to and from work with lunch break ride to where ever the hell i flt like eating, then on weekends probably one 40-50 mile ride. Skyline in santa clara area or kenedy in the san jose area, hell its actually nice riding up in tahoe during the summer. Worked in a bike shop for 2 years so i have some fairly exceptional equipment. Spent more money on my bikes than i have on my old cars. Gotta love hydraulic disk brakes going cross country at 30 miles an hour downhil up to 45 wh00t.

Bwah i was wondering if someone would ask, did though. Going down kenedy on my fourth run, my rear wheel clipped a tree at roughly 38 miles an hour and suddenly i became one with the ravine below, one thing that sucks about time atac pedals... you are joined to your damn bike and usually i have no problem clicking out, but unfortunately everything was going just a shade to fast for me to respond. Resulted in a thrashed bike, broken leg and fractured arm, not to mention an obliterated helmet. My recovery time was spent building a new rear wheel and re-welding various stress points at the rear of the frame, i didn't want to spend the $1500 on a new one when i could do the work myself.

Biking is a hella lot of fun. When I was a kid (17) I rode cross-country with this group in an organization called American Trails West. We'd ride in vans to a campsite and then ride our bikes or hike up trails for the next two days. The bike-ride was usually around 30 miles, Hike usually less than 10, but it was mostly mountain climbing (no spellunking) so it was a pretty heavy duty hike.

Took two months to trail across from New York State, down the appalacians, out to Southern Arizona, up through CO and back through Wyoming and the Dakotas.

After college I continued biking around, and would often ride 10-20 miles a day just to see the sights or enjoy a relaxing day in the spring stopping at tomato stands along the country roads for lunch.

Then my back problem kicked in and I had to cut down, but I can still manage a good 4-5 miles a day when the weather's decent.

Have done some rather serious biking myself, rode accross scotland rougly 300 miles from east to west coast. Not a serious distance but consider the terain i was crossing.
Hiking and biking is outstanding and i wish i could get out more to do it these days, my life at the moment currently consists of work and some college work.. with no time to spare, hell i just moved to Pleasanton and have zero friends in the area, aha well such is life when your st arting from scratch.

I was 170 lbs until I turned 20 then I gained around 80 lbs in one year. Best way to put on weight is to eat tons of meat and just hit the weights hard(+test), running is good for you but it burns off a lot of pounds if you are trying to bulk. so if you wanna get your weight up i'd just stick to eating like a pig and lifting hardcore then burning the rest of the bulk off later. When I was in highschool I was scrawny as hell and couldn't bench 150. now I can lift japanese cars 10 inches off the ground.

Dude, I don't know how many of you watch Aqua Teen Hunger Force, but they have this character named Dr. Weird, and in one episode this is the conversation:

Dr. W: Gentlemen, Behold! I.. have lost weight!
Steve: Yeah... looking.. uh.. good..
Dr. W: All sugars, gone! Manually! With this!
(holds up chainsaw and revs it up. Camera pans down to reveal that he's carved his legs to the bone)
Dr. W: I have to lose 15 more pounds or I'll never be pretty!
(chainsaw noises)

The reason I bring it up is because I juggle hatchets, and I could picture people slicing off parts of themselves and yelling out "I've lost weight! Woo!"

I dunno. I thought it was funny. ATHF is definitely funny. Go buy the DVD.
