IOI: 4

I just wanted to update you guys that Warden and I have reached a set of numbers that we both feel is reasonable for the updated locks. This is still subject to change, but it is likely to be the final version, so I wanted to make you aware of the gist of the changes.

First, we plan to remove the level-based component from 403, leaving the Pick Locks skill, Minor Elemental ranks, and Dexterity bonus as the factors, weighted the same as they are now. As a result, 403 will provide a smaller bonus than it did previously, and the bonus will be flatter (grow more slowly) than before.

At the same time, we'll be modifying the basic lockpicking equation to increase the Pick Locks skill contribution by 25%; in effect, you will be treated as if your Pick Locks skill is 25% higher than it really is.

The net effect of the previous two changes is that being an good lockpicker will have more to do with one's training in Pick Locks than whether one knows 403. As well, most pickers will see their max lock increase somewhat, especially those with a lot of skill.

Finally, the lock range for basically every creature in the game will be changing, in some cases by several hundred points. Most creatures will see their lock ranges increase on average. When these changes go live, you should be cautious for a little while until you get used to both your new max and the lock ranges for various creatures. We'll reiterate these details when the actual roll in of the changes approaches.

The details of this are still subject to change, and are not being deployed in the immediate future. Now that lock numbers are dealt with, we have to perform a similar analysis for trap numbers, which may or may not see analogous changes.

Suck on that, semi-magical rogues that pick above your head.

Suck on that anyone who doesn't 3x PL and DT.

Good change, I feel though. It was stupid mages being able to pick really well simply because they were overtrained in Minor Elemental.

What's the deal with 407?

wait, so 2x plus 403/404 might be less of an option now?

Hmm.

Correct. It may be slightly harder to pop your own boxes. Ah well.

I'm gonna be honest here, I want a fixskill then. I train to 404 for one reason only. Not just a fucking flat tiny bonus. I pick -250 over my head with 403 on. And without that, I would never do it for just -50 to -100 more.

FIXSKILL PLEASE. I'll get something more useful for my 268 MTPs

They will tell you to wait 50-ish days.

I just migrated THW off my rogue. It took me exactly 5 months. I'm not doing that again. And I plan on holding onto my May fixskill this year.

Fuck that.

That's a pretty big change for mid level pickers.

they said it wont happen for a longtime so save a fixskill for it but lets see if we can try to squeeze out a stat reallocation from it!

"Stat reallocation."

ROFL yea right.

I can logically understand a stat re-allocation. Many rogues that were built GS3 to GS4 decided to only 2X with up to 404 and set their stats accordingly to get the best benefit.

It is logical.

HOWEVER..., we all already know, that a re-allo will not be an option no matter how logical it is. Unless maybe they set some prerequisites like, must have been a 2X locksmithing rogue with 404 since GS4 went live or something, but I honestly think thats still thin ... very very thin.

With AG potions and annual free skill reallocations I doubt you'd get any kind of mass realocation allowed.

MAYBE when the dodge changes to maneuvers go through. They may save that to go out with the Armor/hiding changes as a big Growing pains type nerf and offer a mass reallocation.

IOI: 4

>Will the effects of new 403 be based on the caster or the recipient of the spell? In other words, will (non-picking) wizard lore have the same effect as (picking) rogue lore, when both are cast on a third party?

It'll be the same as the current 403, except that the caster's level will not contribute.

>Are you able to give us an estimate of what the new max lock will be for a L100 3x trained 403'ed rogue?

Around -1500. A level 100 3x + Lore Rogue will see the largest benefit from the extra skill, but also the largest drop from the loss of level in lore, which about balance each other out.

>Right now, 2x with lores is generally seen as sufficient to open "most" boxes at like-level. Between the formula change and critter lock uptweak, will that be changing?

No, 2x + Lore will still be enough to open most boxes at like level, and this will remain fairly consistent through all levels (as opposed to now, where it's generally far more than is needed in the mid-30s and gets gradually less useful as you approach 100).

>Are trap and lock size being fully decoupled, or will there still be a reasonably accurate trend there?

I don't expect we'll fully decouple trap and lock size, we're not interested in having huge traps on boxes with small locks or vice versa.

>what effect does this have on casters who open boxes with 403/407?

This will have very little effect on casters who open boxes with 407, as the formulas for that (including the lore bonus) aren't expected to change at all. It will become slightly more difficult due to box sizes increasing on average, but not a huge amount.
