View Full Version : How to ruin an item...?

Ok, I know there used to be a way to take the enchants off of an item. Is there still a way? Dispel, or something similar, that will effectively take off the enchant, without otherwise ruining, or destroying the item?
And there is the failure on enchanting.. but that can't be done reliably.
Let me know if you know a reliable way to do nothing but take off the enchant.
So if anyone out there has already ruined something and taken it to 0x send me a message, and we can work something out. Dont care what it looks like, as long as it has the better breakage.
Basically for a stupid reason I am looking for a set of 0x armor, that has a decent base metal. Strong and/or light would be good.
Something like coraesine, eahnor, eonake, golvern, imflass, mithril, rolaren, veil iron

You used to be able to cast elemental dispell at an item and take down its enchant. Don't know if that still works.

Wow I never knew that. I could see how that would be abused tho.

Yeah I knew you could use dispel that way, just never did it myself, so I don't know if there are tricks to it.
I recall at one point while the boulder was active, I wound up buying an imflass stiletto that was dispelled down to -127 enchant or some ungodly number.
Thats most likely what I will try.
Has anyone played with the bard spell 1013 on an item without charges?

Elemental Dispel removing enchants was deemed to be a bug and was "fixed" like two years ago. A friend of mine blasted a suit of siren leathers and was upset it turned into 4x way before they considered it a bug, when they changed the policy/mechanic she was able to get it patched up.
Other than finding an enchanting merchant to rip enchants off an item or trying to see if a FWI scroll will rip off enchants for a surcharge fee only, I don't think there's currently a player mechanic that can do it without a chance of blowing the item up.
Thats BS. I accidentially did a 10x shield once in the 90s (when they were cheaper) and was told it was intended and not a bug.
If it is plain steel, eblading it then dispelling it used to work to make it negative, no idea if that still works.
I remember one time Annamarie or whatever that bitchy lesbian wizard's name was pissed me off because she "claimed" the tower on teras for enchanting by parking a drone there all day. The drone was completely unresponsive so I had no idea and started doing my work, she came and ordered me to leave, I did not, she attacked me, I gave her fleas, dispelled her equipment, then killed her. Then she came back and did it again and I killed her again. Cost me 2m in fines but oh so worth it.

Hmm.. I think I remember one of the breakage ummm... things.. being pretty high.. Probably low STR but high DUR. But yes, it is -1x and very heavy.
Edit: I'm not very smart most of the time.

You could do a few things with it, and a few were very "bad" while some helped.
You could, as stated above, find someone you knew that had your wanted element and then get it E-Bladed, and then Dispell the spell off, thus giving you a choice of your flare 0x weapon.
You could reduce things down to 0x, or past, with enough casts at an item. It was random though. Was fun to dispell vultite down to 0x fun around in the catacombs and so no one could kill me with a weapon. Couldn't attack level 0 - 1 with weapon, only some spells.
The "bad" part was you could rapid fire dispell someone and actually start randomly stripping enchants of whatever they had on. I had the displeasure of knowing someone that use to do that, and it wasn't fun for anyone but him.

Sorta kinda misses the Script-Killa Club.

How long ago was this? I don't recall anything like that happening. Thought you pretty much had to cast at the item.

AOL Unlimited and a bit into the move to the web? One of my ScriptKiller buddies use to do it ALOT. It was a totally random thing, and there was "zero" messaging for it. He found it out by accident.

Misses part of those days.
