I would think there is a pretty solid base of high end merchants with plenty more than 300m, some who've played less than him.
It's simple to buy coins, simple to farm silver by hunting and merchanting is a simple way to rip people off to increase own wealth significantly.

Judging by the markets I used to watch (still sometimes do for amusement), I'd say 100 - 300m in your bank or items would make you mid range in the GS wealth. Not loaded, not skint but doing a good job.

320 mil isn't much, to be honest. There is a plethora of single items alone worth around this figure.

I think I've sold somewhere in the neighborhood of 200m-250m over the years. About half of that came from one year of "merchanting." SHM can vouch for that, since he was kind enough to sell most of that part for me. Edaarin was rolled when I was a sophomore in high school, so around 1999. I didn't play one of those years in high school, and played for around two years in college and a year out, so let's say five active years.

I'm not going to make any assumptions either way on the veracity of Sean2's posts, but 380m isn't unreasonable. You can pretty easily make 4m a week hunting, and merchanting used to be really easy in early 2000.

All it takes is one lucky night of Dragon Bones, or a lucky raffle, and you have an instant 50m to start.

I've never possessed more then 40 million at once in the entire time I've played GS... but then again, I would much rather surf and work on my tan then sit inside when I actually have time not otherwise allocated.

This isn't even a knock on folks who DO play enough to make 300+ a pittance. I love GS.. have been playing since Genie and Prodigy... I just get bored very easily and like to do too many other things to actually commit the amount of effort to make that kind of silver.

Thats MY problem though... and I can live with it. :) Besides, I can occasionally find someone willing to give me a really excellent deal when I'm looking to make a purchase, as it's not often, and I'm not greedy (dances happily about)

380m is alot of coins. No question about it. But it is not that rare for one person to accumulate that much. In fact I know quite a few who have that much or even 2-3x that much. And of course the people like Ardwen tend to have more than most people know. It is entirely possible you have it.

Heck I can think of several people who have over a billion in items just on alternate/secondary/tertiary characters.

There are items out there that 99.9% of people have no idea exist, even you Tsin..;) Surprisingly, most GMs don't even know a lot of them, because they are not really interested. Warden probably knows the most of any one person.

It's definitely possible. I spend (this is a realistic estimate) maybe 15-30 minutes A MONTH actively merchanting, and I've done quite excellent. I've made quite a bit with very little effort put into it.
