OK, so my computer has been making this loud ass whir-whir-whir-WHIRRR-whiiirr-whirwhir noise for a bout a week now. I figured out it was coming from the video card I added a year or two ago.

Problem 1: I cannot stand the noise. SO I need to take this video card out.

Problem 2:About a month ago, I noticed that while I turn on my computer the splash screens no longer loads, it just shows an Out of Range signal on the moniter, until it gets to my password login screen. Since it started that, I have not been able to use the F10? key to get to the BIOS and whatnot.(I use windows XP home edition, am I even using the right key?)

Problem 3: If I just swap the cable from the nVidia card to the onboard video card, the splash screen comes up - but nothing else will.

So, how do I fix this problem if I can't get to the BIOS screen? I need to switch from my nVidia video card to the onboard card. But just swapping the cable won't work, I have to tell the computer to actually use that one right? Is there another way to get into BIOS, or is there another way to swap the cards?

I absolutely cannot stand this sound. Its horrid. Please help!

Solution 1: You should replace the card, then. Or fix it. It's very likely (since nothing else moves...) that the fan is making the noise, and I had this same problem. I basically kept my case open and put a pen into the blades of the fan every couple minutes for a few days until it eventually fixed itself.

Solution 2: Your BIOS setting for video is fucked up, because you don't have a card in there. You probably have AGP video, and BIOS is set to display AGP, but it's really loading from onboard. So you get no video until the OS loads and corrects this.

Solution 3: See solution 2. Except that doesn't make sense, but oh well.

Get a new video card. Or borrow someone else's just to see the BIOS screen and change the video setting to onboard.

bah - i took the card out and tried booting with the cord in the other card that way.. it works. Dont even need to mess with bios, just take the one card out and it will default to the other.

Everything looks fuzzy now though...
