Backlash or anyone else who may be MAC savvy,my cousin just bought a new intel based mac, an Imac i believe. Its the one with the lcd monitor constructed with the computer and dvdrw built in.

He used the PC version of MS money and liked that but as that is not offered for MAC was looking for another option. Looked at INtuits Quicken but it's mac version apparently is not considered to be even nearly as good as their PC version and in fact thought to be buggy as heck.

If he uses parallels he would have to buy a full version of XP (assuming he can find it) or Vista as well and if its just for MS Money it seems like a lot of money to spend.

Could you offer any other suggestions as to some inexpensive(hopefully) financial software for him to look at?

Any other software you would suggest in general would be good also.

Thanks!

Unfortunately MS does not make a Mac version. You’re right about buying XP being a tad on the expensive side. Best thing I can tell you is try Quicken or scour the internet for other options. Apple’s site has a lot of software downloads. So does Version Tracker, download.com and so on.

???

Finding a version of XP is as hard as finding a computer store.

And I suggest the following:

Find someone with an XP disk
Find someone with an XP product key
Install XP and crack it
Teh end

Cool, I had not even looked online and just wasn't sure while making the post.

Yah, no argument. He wanted a Mac, i would not have made the same choice but, I must admit I was amazed at how easy the installation of the wireless network was. Literally it was as simple as plugging in the ethernet cable from the modem to the "airport" thingie router, whatever the name was, and turning on the mac. PC makers need to learn how to make things as simple as that.

We looked at that also. Besides being about three times the cost of Quicken when all he really needs is the functionality of Quicken it ALSO does not function nearly as well on Macs as it does on PC's for some bizzare reason according to the various mac forums and intuit forums that we looked at. :(

Thanks all for the suggestions so far I'm hoping hoping that someone here might also have had first hand experience with Quicken, quickbooks or a similar financial product for the MAC.

Don’t know if you’ve tried this but here is a link to Apple’s download section for Business/Finance. You might find something there.

About the whole artist/band/unemployed thing... rofl. If you are unemployed you aren’t going to be buying a mac, you’re going to be canabalizing parts from the local recycling/drop-off facility.

As we all know there is far more software available for PCs than Macs. This includes A LOT of MIDI software. The DJ set likes the Sony Verio.

Any program I use for graphic design has also been written for the PC and from my experience works just as well. I’m talking about Adobe, Quark, Dreamweaver (haven’t tried Flash) and the files open up on both platforms. Fonts can be tricky. A while back all of this was not the case but things have been pretty consistent for at least a few years now.
