I have dreams of world dominion that I would like to vicariously live out, what's a good RTS currently on the market?

This may answer the first question, but when does Spore come out? I haven't seen anything about it since August-ish but I don't remember hearing about it being on sale or anything.

Star Wars had a somewhat fun RTS not too long ago.

Anyone tried playing Civilization online? Big fan of the series, but have yet to try it against other people.

I've played quite a few but I still think StarCraft is my favorite.

Command and Conquer 3 comes out next week, and I gotta say, it is bad fucking ass. Been playing the Demo for 2 weeks.

Also, its so well optimized, you don't have to have a super computer to run it.

Star Wars Empire at War is fun to look at, but ultimately flawed. It shares the same problem as Dawn of War, where if you defend, defend, defend, and tech up to the final units, you will always win. I've found that in Warcraft 3 you can win with the lowliest tier 1 units. Hell I've even seen people beaten by peons. The vast range of the game is staggering. And nothing else is balanced quite like it.

I played WC3 and loved it, I'm looking for something a little less fantasy-ish. I think something like Spore, where you start small and end huge would be just about perfect, but I might stop at an EBGames today or tomorrow and I'll take a look at the titles mentioned here because they look like some good suggestions.

Warhammer 40k Dawn of War is excellent. It's more sci-fi than fantasy.

Total War series is good. CIV IV is good (warlords). Old school starcraft still good imo. Old Home World is still good. Close Combat still fun if you're into historically accurate wwii mods and such.

I like war3 but I didn't how heroes could change the any battle so dramatically. I suppose I like macromanagement (SC) over micromanagement (war3). Mostly, I really admire Blizzard for their endless tinkering balancing all the races/factions.

Anyone still play War3/SC? I'd love to get a few games going.
