From mmorpg.com

"Simutronics today announced its three latest licensees for HeroEngine, the industry leading technology platform for development of massively multiplayer online (MMO) games.

A World of My Own (AWOMO) is a virtual island where gamers meet and explore, and which uses HeroEngine as its technology platform. The island serves as a portal for a growing series of high-end 3D games that are downloaded and played together. AWOMO is published by Games Domain International in partnership with Virgin Games UK with software development by Trianit in Germany. AWOMO is being hailed by Sir Richard Branson as "the iTunes of PC Gaming."

In addition, two US developers are also licensing HeroEngine: Stray Bullet Games of Texas and Colony Studios of California. More details about these projects will be announced in the near future.

"We welcome our new licensees. After massive technology diligence they all saw how using HeroEngine's advanced features and revolutionary workflow will bring to market leading edge MMO games faster than ever before," said David Whatley, CEO of Simutronics and HeroEngine's visionary.

HeroEngine is on exhibit this week at the San Francisco Game Developers Conference in booth 144. The HeroEngine website is www.heroengine.com."

They also updated their HeroEngine brochure:

Looks like Simu's still at least making money on the engine, even if the game is a lost cause. Maybe their other products' fees will start going down...

I still don't understand how SIMU's making an engine that'll be adopted by other MMORPG companies pushes its (SIMU's) HJ/whatever private project along? Er?

I mean, it's cool if they make a decent sale, but how is their engine being frontiered by seperate corporations laying down the foundation for HJ? It's not exactly like the other MMORPGs using Hero Engine will be beta testing it.

Can't make anything without funds.

I gave away a free year of HJ at Vegascon. It'll be good in 2014-ish.

Good that they're making money.

Not good that that money doesn't seem to be improving their current business whatsoever.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume it was sarcasm though.

hence the ellipsis

You have the reputation of quite the GS fanboy. Which makes my ambiguity justifiable.

Seeing as this is the HJ folder, I'd say claiming I was an HJ "fanboy" would be more appropriate. But okay.

And as an update, TenTonHammer did a little GDC HJ article with a semi-short video. Linked is from HerosHall.com which cites TenTonHammer:

The video was ok, looks like they still have a lot to do though. I liked the fact that characters can jump, almost like an action rpg.

Those graphics actually look pretty terrible, wtf.

The only way I can describe it I guess, is very kid like? The background/scenery reminds me of a game I got from an Apple Jacks box a few years ago for my son, I forget the name.

Yea, the graphics looked pretty "Eh," but I don't think it's really fair to judge on what appears to be a shitty cell phone camera...

That's true.

You can't go off the "screenshots" on simu's site because those are vamped up shots.

And there's nothing else. Just something that's been in the making for several years. WHICH, next gen games are getting out there. I hear games are gonna start looking like Oblivion for MMOs very soon.

Age of Conan looks fucking incredible, for one. (It also uses DirectX10 or whatever)

WoW's graphics are nicer.

The screenshots aren't bad, really, they just need shadows.
