View Full Version : Why is this weird?

Three learnings came out of Beack Week 2006, namely:
(a) it is not advisable to have beach week during Biker Week in Myrtle
(b) it's an awful idea to do anything for an extended amount of time in college with couples, even if you are one of them
(c) apparently, tuna and pasta is disgusting to people
Since it was raining hard outside one night, we all stayed at the timeshare watching the season finale of Lost. Anyway, I was kind of hungry, so I boiled some pasta, melted a block of Velveeta and added a can of albacore. This girl freaked out about how disgusting that was.
I haven't really thought about it since until a few days ago, when I didn't want to run to the store to buy more marina sauce so I opted for shells, cheese and tuna again.
Umm, is this a no-no combination? It tastes okay to me...

Never tried it myself. Maybe the girl just doesnt like tuna. Or pasta. But alot of the time if things arent normally mixed people just get that 'ick' thought going until they try it.. and either like it or remain fixed on the ick part.

I always eat easy-mac and tuna. I get the same responses from people, but it tastes good to me.

Tuna has a pretty high grossification factor, as rated by the IEEE.
But that girl was probably only getting about 73% of it, so I'm not sure what her deal was.
That reminds me of the time my father in law made meat loaf with turkey substitute... we called it bird loaf and it was horrid.
It also reminds me of the old dish: cream tuna on toast. It just sounds nasty.
Although, since pasta is an italian dish, and italian's love fish... I cant think of why tuna wouldnt go with pasta... other than its not what I would throw together at first thought.

I love tuna and pasta, don't think I've ever done it with the cheese though.

By Mac and Cheese do you mean a Big Mac and cheese? i.e. Muckdonalds?

No, that would be freaking disgusting. I meant Kraft Macaroni & Cheese. Boil, 1 tsp butter, 2 tsps milk, mix and magic.
If you're making Kraft M/C from the box, you'll need more than 1 tsp of butter and 2 tsps of milk...

I eat at LEAST one can a day .. usually out of the can with just a squirt of Italian dressing in it. Most days I have two or more ftw.

Actually I make that once in a while myself. I guess some people just don't like fish? Gross or not, people should respect the types of food you eat and not say "ick" or spaz out when you're getting ready to eat it. If you don't like it, just say that's not for you, and cut the dramatic gross out response. Different people eat different things. But, that's just me. I would've just said, "Bitch, then don't eat it! A brotha's hungry!" Hahahaha!!!

She's old hahaz. He looks like he's old hahaz.
I was doing the low-fat thicker consistency recipe.
Thicker consistency? It must roll up like a ball of mud when you try to mix it. Bleh. I bet you lose all structural integrity of the noodles when you try to stir it up after adding the cheese powder.
2tbsp of butter (half stick), 1.99 tbsp of milk. Anything else is uncivilized.
The directions actually call for a half a stick of butter/margarine (4 tablespoons) and 2/3 cup of milk (we use skim milk). How do I know this? I have a box in front of me since my son loves to eat m/c.
Plain water works just fine you noobs. Obviously not many of you have any college experience!
 I bet thats some nasty tasting m/c. Why not just eat the box?

Hey, it's called "Easy Mac" for a reason, you're forsaking flavor to have something ready to eat in 2 minutes.
As an aside, I've recently taken to just having a protein shake and a tuna sandwich for dinner. Some modicum of nutrition, 90 seconds to prep.
You know it's bad when you're too lazy to flip the Foreman on.
OMG.. I'm going to have to give a discourse on Macaroni and Cheese.
There are many many different types and brands. For this discussion we'll focus on the three main categories of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.
1. Boxed with dry noodles and powdered cheese packet.
2. Boxed with dry noodles and a liquified cheese sauce pack.
3. Individually packed microwave packets with powdered cheese packet.
#1 requires the addition of 4 tsps of butter/margarine and 2/3 cups of milk for it to taste anywhere near edible. Cook time approx. 15 minutes on stovetop counting water boil time.
#2 only requires the noodles to be hot when you add the cheese paste to it. Cook time approx. 15 minutes on stovetop counting water boil time.
#3 requires a little residual water to be left in the bowl for the cheese pack to liquify. Cook time approx. 3 to 4 minutes in microwave.
If you're going to go through the trouble and effort of cooking something, at least make it palatable. :spaz:
Dear Professor Mac & Cheese,
My box of Spirals says 3 tsps butter, 3 tsps milk. Does this mean that the surface area of the macaroni noodle plays a part in how much liquid is needed to maintain a consistent cheesy sauce coverage?
Anxiously awaiting your expertise.
Mac Fan
The professor requires proof. Pic please.
You're looking for enough liquid to be absorbed by the powdered cheese mix to create a semi-runny state so the cheese can be evenly distributed throughout the noodles. And of course you want your noodles aldente.
Some folks like their cheese sauce runny (like me), while others prefer the mud mix. Obviously the more milk, the more runny the mix is.
If you really want a good add to M/C, add penny slices of cut up hot dogs or smoked sausage. I made a mint cooking up batches like this at college and keeping it warm in a crock pot and selling it for $1 a bowl to my dorm mates on my floor. That was back in the day though.
Actually, my Kraft box says 1/4 cup of milk. So I stand somewhat corrected.
More receipies!

Is that like a high altitude receipie? Let me get a pic of my box.
And mac and cheese has a half life almost as long as twinkies.

Here's the two that were in my pantry. My digital camera sucks, so I couldnt make my picture look as pretty as yours. :(

beef requires cooking before adding. Therefore, against the man principle of meal prep should never take more than 5 minutes.

You could always use jerky to get around the prep time.

Pre cooked little smokies FTW! 30 seconds in the microwave while your M/C is cooking and voila!
Speaking of food. Sunday night is breakfast for dinner night. Aunt Jemimah pancakes and bacon FTW! (also with log cabin syrup) I skipped the omlet tonight as I wasnt as hungry. (my son is skizoid for pancakes and blueberry syrup)

Reminds me of searching for an expiration date out of curiousity today because I just threw out a 1962 Civil Defense kit I found in my garage.
I decided to open it before throwing it out and I found:
Plastic cups, Iodine, Maxi Pads, plastic bags to shit in, a toilet seat (to go ever teh barrerl), couple gloves, old school can opener and some funky shit in a can.
There was no expiration date but I suspect that everything was functioning... I'll leave the "sanitary napkin" testing to you.
