Im confused. What exactly is this lesson?

Something akin to the wizards familiar rune things? Is it not just one sorcerer teaching another sorcerer?

Teaches you how to make the rune for that demon specifically. Only so many people could teach it so many times.

This is the most difficult demon to summon, however. So make sure you are (or plan to be) skilled (atleast 50 Lore ranks) if you plan to make use of the rune knowledge with your character.

The demon has the ability to break sanctuaries (with enough skill). It is the only type that can do so. All demons interfere with the creation of a sanctuary (also based on skill)

They can be summoned with the skills a sorcerer naturally inherites, though it is completely random even when using a valence specific runestone.

Doesn't learning it allow you to teach it to 5 others? So it'd be an easy way to turn 2m into 10m?

If you learn it from an NPC, sure. They can designate if you can teach it to others, and if so how many. Player to player is a 1 time deal.
