I have had my sorcerer for about two years now and he has only been a utility character. I want to play him on a more regular basis but numerous times I have tried to hunt with him and ended up dead or with little exp for a full head of mana.... Anyone out there want to take a sorcerer under their wing for a bit and give me a bit of incite into being a decent, functioning sorcerer. I'm currently in Illistim at level 45 trying to hunt trali. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :help:

Write a target shaman\nincant 703\n macro or the like to haze them as soon as you enter the room. Trali aren't undead/illoke/etc. so they don't *have* spike thorn prepped when you walk in. Stun the shaman with 706, followed by the regular trali, and plink away with 702. This is probably the most mana efficient way to deal with them.
This little repetoire is the basic live/stunnable creature hunting tactic. Get into the habit of always using 703 on the shaman (and while hunting creatures with similar insta-kill spells in general), since although they will only hit you with them a small percentage of the time, leveling requires enough repetition for it to be a real pain in the ass over time.
If mana isn't the problem so much as dying, stun and plink the regular trali while DC'ing the shamans (following up the DC with 702/705). If you are trained in necro lore 711 will work well on dangerous creatures too, since high end rolls of 150+ will put them into 3 secs of RT, although it requires a bit of practice to get the timing right.
Beyond that, get a lockable container for your scrolls/other supplies and phase them to reduce encumberance, and always toss out or sell everything that isn't vital to hunting. You'll notice a huge difference when dealing with spike thorn/boil.
Trali might be a little much for you to chew on while learning how to hunt a sorc at this level.
Get your technique/strategy down for the basics with something easier... If I were you I'd give Kiramon (out the postern gate). Kiramon have notably been easy for sorcerers and are pretty plain with regards to attack range. Also wood sprites/bendiths/tusked ursians (Gyldemar Forest). You might also look at the black moor.
Are you a shield/brawl build? Runestaff build?
Are you channelling? Open handed casting? Open stanced casting? or a combination thereof?
Voln-fu?
Are you wearing the requisite defensive spells prior to hunting? Self spells (listed) and extra if available (401,406,414,425,430,101,102,103,104,105,120,712 with retribution).
What offensive spells are you using? 701,702,703,705,706,708,709,711,718,719,720 focused, and 410 just to name a few. (111?, 435?)
Using quartz orbs (+10 CS)?
Here's a quick cast script I used (can be easily converted over to a psinet alias for even quicker response).

Drop down a few levels and work on technique/strategy before you tackle like aged critters who will be testing not only your DS/TD but also your resistance to manuever based attacks. Once you get comfortable in a sorcerer's shoes (familiar with abilities, strength, weaknesses, etc.) then you can start pushing like level and uphunting to the limits of your CS.

I miss playing my Rada sometimes... but the game just takes too much damned time.
Edit: and money.

Kiramon are the way to go. used to be decent money, node close by no real threat. cut your teeth there.

Good idea, Skeeter. Can't go wrong hunting Kiramon.
