So this morning I went to my Criminal Procedure class and we continued discussing the law of search and seizure. Precisely we were discussing whether an individual has standing to assert a 4th amendment right. One of the ways in which you may dispose of your 4th amendment right is by holding things out to the public. The professor gives us a laundry list of cases and their particular "items" considered public. One of the items is garbage taken to the curb. He is careful to distinguish garbage taken to the curb from garbage left at the side of your house.

At this point a female student, for whom I hold a great deal of animosity, asks the question, "At my house we have our help take out the trash. Would we retain a reasonable right to privacy because we didn't hold our garbage out to the public?"

At which point about 50% of the 150 person lecture hall cracked up as the other half attempted the retrieve their lower jaw from the cold tile floor. It wasn't necessarily the stupidity of the question (it was fucking retarded) but also the shamelessness with which she asked it. If you're going to hold out your families use of "help" in every day household activities, then at least have the decency to couch a question like that in a 150 person lecture as a hypothetical and not a question from personal experience.

That is why I fucking hate Los Angeles and plan to gtfo asap.
