>Ildran said to estimate it around 40,000+ for "game" rooms.

For those who are curious, around 40,000 was my gut instinct ballpark guess. The 60,000+ rooms (the exact number is a bit over 66,000) is an actual count of all the rooms that exist.

Since I was curious to actually find out how many player-accessible rooms we have, I built a system that wanders about the game looking for rooms that it hasn't seen yet and let it loose. It's unfortunately unable to traverse past unconventional barriers, so I have to point it at a room beyond each barrier manually, but I've picked up the vast majority of the rooms. So far it's seen a bit under 17,000 rooms, which would fit with Tsoran's 12,000 number quite nicely.

The rooms that aren't caught by the walker fall into one of four categories.

The first is player-accessible rooms that it missed because it couldn't find them, which I'd estimate amounts to a couple thousand rooms. It didn't miss any big areas that I can think of, but it did miss some large collections of small ares (like tables and player homes).

The second is "backstage" rooms, things like our GM offices and the location of maintenance systems. I'd estimate there are something on the order of 20,000-25,000 rooms of that nature in the game.

The third is festival areas that were once accessible but aren't currently, everything from Black Swan to the Spitfire. My guess would be 10,000-12,000 rooms for that, possibly more. A single festival can sometimes be 500 rooms or more, including the shops, and we've run quite a few festivals in our day.

The last category is unreleased areas (some of these have since been scrapped, but the rooms live on), which I obviously can't go into detail about, but there are probably on the order of 3,000-5,000 rooms dedicated to that purpose.

Hopefully that satisfies your curiosity.

And people think they have seen all there is to see in GS. There is always a hunting ground/location one hasn't explored, not even including the odd and ends areas that Ildran mentions.

I can die happy now. Thank you.

It's actually rather interesting. I constantly speak to people who have never heard of this area or that, of this neat place or that one. There are also tons of places that I probably will never discover even if I played for another 6 years.

And to think, people run around without room descriptions on.

I never did. Especially when traveling. I turned it all off. I saw them once, I don't need to see them again.

I wonder how many rooms make up all the travel rooms that have nothing but a room description.

I'm much the same in some areas, but I've had times where I had time to kill and I simply walked between cities, reading about the areas I'm talking through.

I've discovered some of my favorite areas in the game that way. The underground waterfall between Zul Logoth and Ta'Illistim is definitely something to see.

I'm going to venture a guess in saying that a certain death-rum INTRUDER ALERT room is still very much well intact. And simultaneously non-scrappily-scrapped.

I wonder about the old CoL, though. And its down pillow scoreboard + what have you.

They can't 'delete' the rooms once they've been built. Anything that's been built with the intention to release, or even one-time quest areas that have been built (or festivals, whathaveyou) are still in the game, just not accessible. I imagine there are quite a few.

Whoever does room QC needs to re-check the Bathhouse and make a very important claim as to why people need to get their doses of nostalgia. Bah.

I still have never been to Cavernhold because I've never played a short race, really (dwarf/halfling).

Why are they not allowed to delete rooms?

That would be something I don't know, to be honest. I just know that when I started building rooms through ALAE they told me that once a room is built, it can't be deleted, but instead just goes into a 'behind the scenes' type area without access by those in the general game populace. Portals can be opened to these areas at will, of course, by the staff.

I agree. Sometimes it is nice to take your time and read descriptions. I also can have alot of fun this way. Unfortunatly, nobody cares how many rooms there are in the game and therefore this thread is dead to me.

I wonder if gnomes can get into Cavernhold, since they're supposed to be shorties like halflings...
