It seems a fit of nostalgia has overtaken me, and I kinda miss what I had with GS3.

I never played GS4 and dunno how different it is, but does anyone here still play that wouldn't mind re-introducing me as a second-hand noob?

Are you planning on starting from scratch or what?

Caels
02-10-2007, 11:33 PM
I think starting from Scratch is my only option, unless they transferred characters from GS3 and never delete long forgotten accounts.

If you have their PIN's and can answer a few questions about said accounts you should be in good shape.

Caels
02-10-2007, 11:35 PM
Amazingly enough, they still have my old account on file.

I don't remember the difference between basic, premium, and platinum accounts though =/

First suggestion: Don't do it.

Second suggestion: Read the website for the difference between basic, premium and platinum accounts.

Caels
02-10-2007, 11:41 PM
Okay, from browsing their site it seems I don't want to do Platinum, but I'm fairly certain I had premium several years ago... It is kinda hard to justify the price though considering that its a text game.

basic = standard account
premium = more char slots, ability to go to four winds isle from any realm, extra merchant chances, and more
platinum = an entirely different realm, geared toward RP, with a much smaller population

Caels

lol, Sean, why "don't do it"?

You dont need pins to reactivate characters. Just goto the website, put in your old account name and password, itll say you arent active, and ask for billing info, put in a CC.. Some point in there it asks you for security answer, then gives you a lists of characters associated with the account. You pick which one(s) to activate and then which subscription. choose basic.. Try it out, if you like it you can always upgrade to premie.

Caels

Hmm... well apparently I had more than one account, because Caels isn't in my character list when I choose one to activate.

Wish I could remember that account name.

I've emailed support about it, but chances are they won't respond kindly to someone who can't remember an account name or email address from 8 years ago.

I doubt they will be unkind, in my experience they are usually pretty cordial. Even when I ask stupid questions.

Easiest thing to do is to call them on Monday when they open, and tell them what you DO know, being your name, the account name you know etc.. See what they can find that is linked to your name and/or that account. If they find another account, and are able to tell you that name, all you have to do is answer the security question then. Most likely they will try emailing the info to the email on file. I am not sure if they will let you know what that email is - shouldnt be a problem since if its not yours you wont be able to check it anyways.

I was kinda hoping they'd have some email support still available on weekends, but if I don't have a reply by Monday, I intend to call them.

I don't remember the email address on file with it either.

Here's what will happen. You'll play and find all the new things they've added. The first month or two will be great because its all new. The next couple of months will be back in the habit. After that, you'll realize they have barely accomplished anything since you left and you'll want to leave again.

I suggest calling. They've always been courteous and quite helpful in my experiences.

QFT. Calling is the way the go and they are very courteous and happy to serve.

Well, in all honesty, I didn't leave because I was bored with the game, I left because I felt microscopic during the 2 years I waited for ALAE to notice my application and respond. Even something saying "Sorry, we're not looking for anyone right now" would have been better than nothing.

ALAE finally got back to me about 6 months after I stopped playing... bastards.

So I reinstate two of my old characters, and they're naked and weaponless, as well as coinless, but they kept their levels... that kinda sucks :) Should just reroll them at this point.

I suggest taking the one you have the most fun with and stick with them. Definitely explore all that the adventurer's guild has to offer. Also, check out all the improvements to speech. It is really quite amazing what you can do now.

Also, don't hesitate to say hi to this nice fellow in illistim. He's very down to earth, congenial and loves to help out new people. He prefers being surprised, bouncing at him and giggling at him. His name is Evarin ;)

Play WoW instead.

Caels
02-11-2007, 01:18 PM
I did play WoW. Wasn't a friendly experience by any means.

Only reason I lasted a week was because I had a friend showing me around for a few days. Once he stopped playing so frequently, it got really boring for me.

Imo yes. Kiddos tend to have a lot of down time at first.

you get bored of WoW but enjoy GS? GS is one of the most boring games created, especially when you come back and realize all your friends are long gone.

Actually gem's unfry-hunt cycle is very good for keeping an eye on your kid. Youre not reliant on groups or a guild. You can jump in, hunt for a few minutes and then park. My three year old and I do real well by it.

15 minutes of afk for every 5 minutes played.

You can certainly solo your way to end-game in WoW, and just because you're able to stay out in the field all day doesn't mean you have to. You even get rest exp for parking yourself in an inn while you go change junior's diapers.

As opposed to 15 minutes of mindless walking or watching the bat fly me around. Or maybe the 5 to 10 minutes just to walk through Laggrimar.

You certainly could. I dont really want to get into trying to diss Wow. It is easily the best MMO around. Both games have their time sinks. And I have been bored enough to quit both games before.

lets all play poker

I got bored with poker myself. To play it right, I have to fold too much.. and then I feel like Im not actually playing a game. Makes me sad. Feels like a waste of time, unless I win some big money.

LOL, well, since this kinda went off topic, I'll steer it back on by saying that they found my account with Caels on it, and I've re-enabled it for the time being. I may end up just stealing all the items off all my characters, giving it to Caels and then reducing back to a basic account.

25 friggin characters on Caels' account... half of them I don't remember ever playing at all, lol.

Could always liquidate... like so many seem to be doing these days. Check out the Merchants Market.

I played WoW for a while. Its a gorgeous game and fun to play, although you can’t get anything custom made. But ultimately you run into instances where you can’t get up from the computer for hours at a time.

Nice, what did you actually wind up having to do to find the account?

Shot Billing an email, they responded today asking for the answer to my security question. I sent it back, the told me the account name. From there I just had to test a few old passwords until I found it.
