I was wondering if anyone could tell me how much Arcane Symbols I would need to steal any stealable spell without failure.

I am under the impression you cant steal anything over lvl 20. Kinda like the limitations on imbed.

With 40 ranks I cant steal much, and it says my Rune strength is 81.. not sure how thats being calculated.

67 ranks of major spirit spells

Any extra information on using the spell would be great.

Quoted from Rob's (Vaporous or some such on the officials) research on 09/14/06:

"Outside spells worn by the Caster affect Steal Spell Difficulty. Spells worn by the Target don't matter. The more outside spells worn, the more difficult it is to steal. If you're wearing the spell your trying to steal, that seems to count against you more than others."

I nearly killed myself playing with the spell as a sorcerer. I had to strip most of my spells before I could use it successfully. That spell could use some work.

Heh. Tayre and I used to rape that spell consistantly to uphunt back in the old days. Since the change ages ago I've never had any success with it.

I steal stuff like tangleweed and call swarm on a regular basis.

As a cleric I steal Boil Earth quite successfully with only a few ranks of Arcane Symbols.

I just went from 40 ranks in scrolls, to 101 ranks. I didnt see much difference in my ability.

My rune strength went from 81, to 87.

I've had this spell for years and never used it since it changed.

What the hell does it do now?

Hmm? Living spell lets you take a prepped spell from someone else, if they fail the warding, and nowdays if you pass a skill check of some sort.

So a cleric/empath can cast ranger and wizard and sorcerer spells etc..

Whose spell level (in regards to duration) does it use, the cleric/empath or whomever you stole it from?

I think it would use the base spell duration. Basically it would be the person stealing the spell, but since they have no ranks in that spell circle, it would only get the base duration.

Pretty sure it wont be the duration of the person its stolen from.

If I remember correctly, it does not let you steal spells over level twenty, and it does not let you steal spells that are no longer available for players to cast such as Death/stun cloud. Certain critter only spells cannot be stolen.

A good use for this spell is to MA a Paladin and steal a few of their non-scroll, selfcast spells before heading out. (no, I dont do this)

doesn't it also have something to do with the level of the person/creature your stealing from? My friend level 100 empath has a pretty easy time taking from his level 70+ chars but I tried it from a level 50 wizard and only ended up with a stun. But the endroll was 300-400.

That's what happens when you try to steal a spell you cannot take.

The most frequent use for this is for empaths to help clerics ressurect while Clerics are on that rez timer thing. I used to also give my spirit to a Cleric after he rezzed if he wanted to back out and hunt since I just sat on my ass in TSC.

This is also good for stealing Spike Thorn from and casting it on Michiko.
