View Full Version : X-Post From The Officials: WARNING - Do not use or load PSINET...

PsiNet can be used maliciously. I found this out after I had an in game conflict that has become an issue on PsiNet and PsiNet is being used to continue and escalate the conflict. So be warned and warn off anyone you know from donating to the makers of PSINET or using the PSINET product or any type of non-play.net add ons.
Also you may want to mention that this could happen to anyone who uses any add-on and there's nothing Simu can do about it at this time. Yes, I've totally uninstalled PSINET, deleted, removed it, but that doesn't change the fact that PsiNet is being used to harass even though you or I may no longer use it.
Also you may want to note and pass this on for future litigation:
It's illegal to annoy
A new federal law states that when you annoy someone on the Internet, you must disclose your identity. Here's the relevant language.

"Whoever...utilizes any device or software that can be used to originate telecommunications or other types of communications that are transmitted, in whole or in part, by the Internet... without disclosing his identity and with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any person...who receives the communications...shall be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than two years, or both."
This is a next step that a user may want to consider when being harassed.
Summary: Effective January 2006, it is now a Federal crime to attempt to annoy someone anonymously over the Internet. In fact, it's a Federal crime to post to the Internet anything that has intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass another person.

Between the fucking morons like this and the overzealous moderation, people wonder why the official boards suck.

It sounds like the OP from the officials is referring to another client user of PsiNet, rather than Jamus (who is clearly identified), which leads me to wonder: is this person going to make a similar post telling people to uninstall AIM?

Why does this remind me of the:

Gotta love the drama.

While this post is practically without merit, I am awfully glad I got out [of Psinet] when I did.

What happened with that cocklover Ariond?

Did Jamus finally grow a brain and realize how AID's ridden this moron is?

Although he still lets Cleara use it...

Article "Ariond" [AID #660]
==== Edit By Jamus ====

I've had it with the constant strife. It has become a drain and a hassle for me.

From what I can see, most (not all) of the people who hate Ariond have no real reason to, they have simply joined in on the hate-fest that OOC has largely become. It is trendy to dislike Mike. (The ignore count on Mike is HIGHLY unrepresentative; upon further inspection, a few very angry people ignored him on many dozens of characters.)

Mike is also a very difficult person to get along with sometimes, and he can be rude and inconsiderate to specific people when they say or do things he disagrees with. However, ON THE WHOLE, I do not believe that Mike instigates the majority of the conflicts he is involved in.

Yes, I like Mike. However, I have banned people I liked before. I do not not ban Mike because he sucks up to me. He doesn't suck up to me. Rather, I don't believe he has done anything wrong. I do not believe he is Intentionally Disruptive, which is the guiding principle of PsiNet's policy.
There is no doubt the chaos surrounding him has become disruptive, however, and I cannot imagine that I am the only one who thinks so.
This needs to stop.

Therefore I am calling on everyone, but most especially Mike, to take this conflict to a medium that will not impact everyone as a whole. What this means is that if you have a standing problem with Mike, deal with it in another channel or in private chats. If Mike has a standing problem with you, he will do the same thing.

I am under no illusions about how effective that alone will be. If you believe that Mike is "Being unnecessarily and repeatedly combative" per the PSINET POLICY, please copy the relevant bits, including the beginning of the conflict so that I can see that Mike was not merely responding to someone else's chastising, but actually instigating conflict, and use PSINET MAIL to mail it to me, or email it to psinet@psinet.dynalias.net.
If it becomes apparent that Mike is, in fact, making a nuisance of himself, I will take further action. If you cannot bring yourself to take your existing conflicts with himself elsewhere, I will have very little sympathy for what he says in response to you. I am asking my moderators to make use of the MODERATE SEPARATE command as a warning to both Ariond and his increasingly vehement fanclub before taking further action.

It has to stop. It's poisonous. Take it elsewhere or let it go, and if you think that Mike is actually instigating the problem, prove it. From what I can see, there are no innocent parties, except the uninvolved.
Jamus

Article "Ariond2" [AID #664]
It is indisputable that the conflicts I am readily engaged in with certain people on OOC have become a general disruption to the entire channel, and are severely inhibiting Jamus's ability to work due to a constant stream of complaints from those who are vehemently expressing their hatred of me. I feel that these conflicts that I have become involved in, often times because of nothing more than a silly argument or comment, have spiraled out of control. In most cases, I do feel as though I was justified in making my opinions clear. However, I will readily admit that I am prone to getting carried away, as I certainly believe that most people are.

I do not believe that altercations this intense were desired by anyone, least of all myself, and that they have become disruptive to bystanders on OOC, and to the moderators who are mediating an environment that, due to these altercations, is becoming increasingly riotous. With this in mind, I would like to offer a sincere truce, and express my desire to abandon such controversy. This is not an apology for making my opinions of certain people known. As I have already stated, in most cases, I certainly feel that asserting my opinions was justified. This is also not a guarantee that I will henceforth be pleasant and amiable to all persons that I encounter on this channel. It is simply a desire to put an end to the petty squabbling that is creating such a disruption to those NOT involved.

For those who do not feel like they can trust or respect me enough to do so, I ask that they simply ignore me, and cease making snipes about me after using the ignore command. I will gladly do the same for them, and we can hopefully reduce the amount of unnecessary garbage that occurs on this channel. In closing, I sincerely hope that as a result of this statement, the atmosphere on OOC can become more pleasant for those toward whom I hold no ill will, and I sincerely hope that people will be willing to get to know me on a personal basis before they form opinions of me based on my actions toward a select few.

The "OMFG HE KEEPS CALLING ME A RETARD I R QUITING!" is just so lame. Either learn to take abuse or stop playing MMOs. Period.

I don't like PSI-NET but that's just me. And most the time people do shit like this it's because they did it to themselves.

Jamus used to silence me on OOC because I bagged on Rocksand. He pulled the 'you just do it because it's trendy' bullshit on me too. I do it because she's a cunt, not because everyone else is doing it. The same goes for Ariond.

That said, I haven't used Psinet in about a year.

Exactly. When I used OOC, I noticed Ariond was much more of a cock when Jamus wasn't around.

I'm probably part of the "seperate chat room" idea since I've been bagging on Ariond lately due to his incessant idiocy. I've just run out of patience with him and keep calling him on it.

He's a turd. First class.

I personally find OOC pretty boring when Ariond is not on so not everyone hates him. He makes conversation fun (and dramatic at times). So what if he bashes some people? If you dont have thick skin then UNTUNE OOC. Why take something so serious?

It's not about whether or not he bashes people. The problem is that even if you ignore Ariond it means you have to ignore all the other people who respond to him making it virtually impossible to follow conversations on OOC because of his effect.

Yes, everyone just decided to hate Ariond because it's trendy.

Jamus is either obtuse beyond belief or lying about not getting it.

Either way it does little to help users, or SIMU for that matter, have confidence in him or his product.

Latrinsorm

I'm not sure what Jamus' ability as a judge of character has to do with his ability to make a trustworthy application. It's not like he made Ariond a mod.

StrayRogue
02-10-2007, 09:09 PM
Nothing. No one even brought that into question.

People question his judgement in regards to whom he lets use his application.

Imo jamus has shown obvious special treatment and favoritism in the past with others so I wouldn't doubt it's possibility in concern with Ariond.

This is specifically the reason why I dont Untune OOC nor Ignore Ariond. More to the point, I should not have to.

If you're acting like an idiot, be prepared to be called on it. Especially if its in a public forum such as psinet OOC channel.

I remember Jamus... but I don't remember why... I also remember something about him developing PsiNet.

Did PsiNet become a part of the game? Or is it like an add-on?

Stanley Burrell
02-11-2007, 01:11 AM
My deleting PsiNet had nothing to do with asshattery and everything to deal with a concerning security flaw someone was able to exploit and point out to me :-/

Makkah
02-11-2007, 01:23 AM
PsiNet is a separate program developed by Jamus that interacts with the game and provides a few little features including chat channels and ALIASes. Unfortunately, it does open up some security issues and the OOC channel is full of retardedish people (in addition to some decent people). Unfortunately, some bias is shown in moderating OOC, and some members in power are somewhat irrational.

Please feel free to elaborate, Stanley

Please feel free to elaborate, Stanley

This mainly had to do with someone being able to use a moderator account on PsiNet and show me IP traces and character info dats keyed into a single account.

Wow, it seems like so long ago that I spoke with Jamus while he was developing PsiNet.

I believe we shared some coding tips and whatnot, though its all lost to me now.

I'm glad to hear it took off for him, even if the admin job is a little shoddy. The problem is going to be predominant in any institution in which volunteers server as the keepers of justice. My own personal bias and friendships are part of what caused me to leave the admin of this forum to Kranar. There were internal issues, and eventually I decided that my vulnerability to not wanting to be hated by anyone was bad leadership on my part.

I suspect Jamus and his staff have similar issues.
