View Full Version : Trading Ceiling
Anyone ever notice a ceiling in trading bonus? Around 170 ranks and I've not gotten 1 silver more for selling crystal weapons from OTF than I had 12 ranks ago.

[trading bonus] + [inf bonus] /12 = Trading percentage

I would think there would be a ceiling on items before there was on the skill.
What are you getting for selling the things? Last time I went I think I got like 1666 per weapon. 202 ranks, 25 cha bonus, no citizenship in illistim.

[trading bonus] + [inf bonus] /12 = Trading percentageHence, an increase of 12 ranks should always result in a higher percentage. The initial post indicates that eventually this is not the case.

Your race mod (+/-) could very well be rounding down your trade % at 70.
That, and you hacked the Matrix.

Don't quote me or anything, but I think the tradeskill was jacked with when they messed with the shops recently. There was a discussion about it on the officials.
Max trading bonus theoretically would be:
302 skill
35INF
50 traiding skill (enhanced)
20INF (enhanced)
352 skill + 55INF = 402/12 = 33.5%
Add in your racial benefits and whalla. Currently I can get the extra +20INF and 5 of the extra trading. Hope to get more sooner or later.

Don't you make more money on shops you visit more often then others or did I just make that up?

Yeah, once you earn backroom access you get cheaper prices. I think.
Plus you can earn citizenship.

You offer to sell your crystal-edged longsword to the pawnbroker.
The pawnbroker takes your crystal-edged longsword, glances at it briefly, then hands you 1880 silver coins.
My elf citizen in Illistim(+5%). 202 Ranks of Trading and 33 INF Bonus.
My elf should have a 32% sales bonus.
I appraised a gold ring at the pawn shop with two different characters(one above and second with no trade ranks). Both elves and citizens(So 5% overlap). Noted a ~25% difference in price. 2% should be the INF bonus that isn't calculated if you don't have enough trading. Seems about right to me.

I remember the discussion of the Trade Skill on the officials and the ceiling was placed on BUYING items from town shops, not selling.

Last time I checked there was a limit on what NPC's in shops (especially the pawn shop) will pay for an item.

The 25,000 silver cap on any one item? That wouldn't come into play with an OTF crystal-edged weapon.

You'd be right. I'd try selling a variety of things instead of those weapons (although it would be difficult to get a good assesment on a mean price for other things).
I can see GMs putting a limit on those weapons simply because they're such common treasure in OTF.

heh, i can't believe people train in trading. Can this possibly be more useful than more spell ranks, more CM, more dodge, or anything else that will help you live?

It's good for farming.

When I hunted a whole lot more than I do now, I could rake in about 2 million silvers per day. If my base earnings for the day are 1.5m or so. That means I got approximately 0.5m per day just for the training in trading.
In a week it'd mean 3.5m, over a month it'd be 14m. All for doing what I normally do.
This also doesn't take into consideration discounts off merchant shops or enchanting potions, etc.

If you MA it is better to just use a secondary character to sell your crap. If you dont, then it might be worth it to pick up some ranks. It all depends on how much you play and how much you like to spend silver.

I...sort of do that. I save my gems and skins, so that my elven bard can sing/sell them. He's only 25 but fully 2x in Trading. So with being elven and a citizen, he makes a significant amount compared to my dirt elf and oomie.

An extra 250k per 1M sold adds up.

1624, 168 ranks, human, illistim, no citizen.
