What is with all these porn bots lately? Can anything be done to cut them off before they post, or is the only repercussion to ban the name and delete the posts? They can just obtain a new IP address and post repeatedly, correct?

There's apparently a big push of spambots lately, and not just on this forum.

We're actually blocking a ton, we've got email and random-letter/number verification now when you try to make an account. These things, unfortunately, get more and more sophisticated.

Yeah I've seen this on a few other forums that I frequent and it's getting funny seeing some of the ads coming across.

We've had it for a while now, and I'm pretty sure the ones breaking in are only the tip of the iceberg.

Just as a side note... not that I mind if you guys reply to spam threads, but the entire thread does end up getting deleted, typically within 4-6 hours, this would include your post.

Knowing Kranar he might have this in place already. If you check out what is required to register here one can only assume it may just be human sweatshop spam farmers at work.

I’ve heard about the deluge thats been happening lately not only in this area but also hub attacks. When Gmail went public my account went from 0 to 2000 spam a week.

It is in my opinion that the mods are actually posting them strategically to garner traffic and site ranking when those posts are data mined/captured by google's crawl.
