To keep from hi-jacking threads...I figure it's a good time to discuss training paths, stats and so-forth here.

I'm thinking that I'll fixskill to 2-hander and see how I like it when the annual fixskills is free. I have enough bounty points to fixstat( or 4 fixskill)....but I'm not really worried about that at this point.
Ganalon.
Currently a archer/picker rogue. heavy armor build (wears mbp) and snipes from the shadows. 1.25x dodge/1.1x cm. 2x ambush. 3x perception. 3x hiding. 3x locks/traps. 1x physical fitness.
Currently hunts Ducts and OTF proper at level 86. Uses a longbow/composite bow with ebladed arrows.
Guildmaster, not mastered all skills yet.
AS - with COL + 4x bow/ebladed (4x) arrows at 451.
DS - offensive ~250 with COL +401,406,414
DS - defensive ~450 with COL +401,406,414
Max lock -1205. Max trap -479 with lore + vaalin picks.
Stats set to maximize TP's.
I started off as a sword/board (ohe/shield) user back in GS3. Switched to OHE+archery with onset of GS4. Moved back to sword/board a year later, and I'm now back to archery.
I like archery the best since I like the efficiency of the kills. So this is a plan I'll stick with.
I'd like to move down to lighter armor and add more dodge ranks in order to become a more 'nimble' fighter that can effectively hunt at end game with hcp brig so that it will allow me to utilize guild skills and dodge to the maximum capabilities (without penalties).

Kyal....pretty much a no-namer-no-famer rogue.

In GSIII my rogue was a Sword/Board Picker. It was actually pretty bad for picking because I couldn't scrape up the TPs for lores and I kept overhunting too much to actually pick the stuff despite being 3x in it.
Swap to GSIV and I went Sniper Archer/Picker route because it freed up enough TPs to fully 2x Ranged/Perception/Ambush while also going 3x in picking skills. This worked fantastic from Blighted Forest until Maaghara's Tower. The kick in the nads came from the OTF Ducts, I might've just entered far too early but I couldn't stay hidden against anything combined with only torso chain and I got wrecked. Repeatedly.
I ended up ditching the Hide/Stalk completely and went for spells and heavy armor.

I'll be buggered, you're Kyal!
CMs don't do enough bang for buck for an archer. I've just got ranks for Combat Mobility and Weapon Specialization. Until you mentioned it just now, I forgot I could use more of those too. Bleh. Decisions.

Pure hunting rogue. I had her picking boxes in GSIII but with the switch to GSIV decided I wanted to go pure hunting. I love it.
The plan is to get up to 2x in Physical Fitness, 3x Stalking/Hiding, and 3x perception. I *might* add in another 5 ranks of MOC at some point.

I went for a purely physical route on my rogue as well. This is my only rogue I really play regularly. I want to eventually some day finish cheapshots and stunman so I don't have to use cman points on them, and I'd also like to get CMAN up there. It's kind of like Jolena's build.

COL'er, can't remember AS/DS numbers and too lazy to look/hunt. She can pick pretty much any box from River's Rest (so up to 42-ish, +/-5). I used to be sword/board with her, but I got very tired, very quickly, with the hide-ambush-rehide-rinse-repeat. With archery, she stays hidden until she needs to pick up all her arrows. Going for MBP pretty quickly, she's in torso chain right now.
(And I realize I have no guild training. Being in RR, and being much too lazy, I just haven't gotten around to it. And I haven't "missed" it at all.)
Alright. Here's my rogue. Please note that I don't actually have a training path. I don't do intra-level training because it confuses me. I train in what looks good at the time.
She's in chain now, and since it's pretty I'm not anxious to get out of it soon. She stays in hiding most of the time when hurling, so clearing a room while sniping is pretty fun.
However, I am extremely impressionable and if anyone sees anything "WTF is she doing?!?!"-able, I can be convinced to change it.

Discuss your rogue
The class was known as "thief", and represented a variety of character concepts that under scrutiny and care must be designated thief, ranging from Bilbo Baggins to The Gray Mouser. In the 1st edition the Thief character class was interestingly enough the only character class that any nonhuman type, such as an elf or dwarf or halfling could achieve unlimited levels in. In some lights, it must be stated that thieves can be a very noble class indeed, and this is reflected in the AD&D game rules, permitting thieves to be neutral good or even lawful neutral, but never Lawful Good. Gygax has noted in hindsight that this may have been an oversight, as alignment was never meant to be viewed as an absolute hierarchy of best to worst, and character classes should reflect their medieval fantasy counterparts, even into accurate ethical and moral alignment license.
Rogues are available to all races except for the Tauren and the Draenei.
Rogues rely on Energy for their abilities instead of Rage or Mana. Rogues (and Druids, who also use Energy in cat form) can only hold 100 energy before Talents/Items, but Energy regenerates very quickly (exactly 20 energy every 2 seconds.) Most abilities either give or spend "combo points." Abilities that "spend" combo points ("finishing moves") become stronger as more points are spent. When the rogue performs a combo move on a target, that target gains a combo point, up to a maximum of 5 on one target. If the rogue begins to add combo points on another target, the first target's points are lost. Rogues can also go into a stealth mode, which makes them effectively invisible to enemy Players and enemy NPCs unless detected. Stealth becomes more or less effective depending on the Rogue's level and the level of the potential detector. Stealth can only be used out of combat, with the exception of the ability "Vanish," which forces the Rogue into stealth in exchange for a relatively inexpensive reagent.[14] Several attacks ("opening moves" or "openers") require the Rogue to be in stealth.[15]
They can wield daggers, one-handed maces, one-handed swords, and fist weapons. They can also employ ranged weapons such as crossbows, bows, guns, and thrown weapons. Rogues also learn to dual-wield, allowing one-handed weapons to be equipped in each hand. Rogues can create and apply poisons to their weapons. Depending on the applied poison, it allows the rogue to deal additional damage (either instantly or over time), slow their enemy's movement, increase their spell casting time, reduce the effects of healing, or make the enemy NPC less likely to attack the rogue.
Rogues also have the ability to unlock locked doors, chests, and boxes using "thieves tools" and the "lockpicking" skill.
The Rogue talent trees are: Assassination (poisons, critical strikes, and finishing moves), Combat (melee combat abilities, normal attack damage increases) and Subtlety (stealth and opening abilities).
Rogues can wear cloth and leather armor. Their primary attributes are Agility, stamina, and strength. Agility increases dodge, critical strike percentage and attack power, stamina increases health, and strength increases attack power.
Also, in early editions of AD&D and D&D, thieves were swiftest to learn new levels, and if played by a wise and clever player, they could readily become among the most powerful character class in the game. At the same time, under the 1st edition thieves were sharply limited by having their essential skills (such as Open Locks and Move Silently) defined as beginning at a flat chance of success of perhaps a 10-20%, and requiring perhaps ten levels to reach the point where they had much confidence in using them. The 2nd edition altered this by allowing thieves to specialize so that they needed only a few levels to master two skills.
In 2nd edition the term Rogue first appeared to describe the group of classes made up of those individuals "living by their wits day to day-often at the expense of others." These classes included: the Thief, the Assassin, and the Bard.
The Thief, one of the original classes from first ed. D&D, was the robber, the thug, or the "expert treasure hunter". They specialized in the acquisition of goods/materials, and bypassing security devices.
The Assassin, short lived as a class, was introduced in first ed. AD&D until it became a kit in 2nd ed. AD&D on the premise that any class could kill people for money. They are the man-hunters: killers, bounty hunters, special operations. They know their prey, their habits, strengths and weaknesses. The assassin does not have the weapons limitations of other rogues and their knowledge of poisons often makes them a deadly opponent.
Bards, the most recent addition to the rogue classes, are "glib of tongue, light of heart, and fleet of foot." Merging thieves, musicians and magic-users, bards are truly the "jack of all trades". Whether it's slipping past guards, casting spells or singing to earn a few coins to pay for their dinners, bards can always pick up the slack when the party needs it.
[edit] Third edition
The class was renamed "rogue", to reflect the supposed new scope of any skilled and stealthy character. In fact, the character class still bears only three large divergences from other character classes, namely their signature maneuver, the "sneak attack", their capacity to notice traps intuitively, and their superior aptitude for skills.
The rogue class is given 8 skill points per level, higher than any other character class. However, the number of skill points is modified by the intelligence attribute, so it is possible for a very low intellect rogue to be no better off than a particularly bright fighter, although they would still have a broader range of skills to choose from. Spies, scouts, detectives, pirates, and sundry ne'er-do-wells, as well as thieves and just about any other character who relies on stealth or a broad range of skills, are stated to fall under the rogue class.
3rd edition skills removed the flat percentage rolls that previous thieves had used, using their Difficulty Class mechanic to let a rogue have a better chance against the cheap locks and ordinary guards that might appear in lower-level games.
The rogue has the ability to deliver a sneak attack whenever an opponent is unable to defend itself, usually applied whenever the opponent would be unable to dodge or is flanked. The rogue can then take advantage of this momentary weakness to strike at a vital part of the anatomy (provided the creature has a discernible enough anatomy to suffer a critical hit). (This ability was formerly a "backstab," which made it difficult to define when it might be applied in open combat. Allowing flanking (attacking while a teammate is on the opposite side of the target) to create a sneak attack makes the rogue more reliable during simple combat play.)
The Iconic rogue is Lidda, a halfling female.
[edit] Party Duties
Rogues are deadly but somewhat vulnerable front line combatants. Their base attack bonus chart is similar to the monk or the cleric, but they have relatively low Hit Points (1d6 per level) and are proficient with fairly low-damage weapons. What advantages they have come from their high Dexterity, which augments their armor class and missile weapon aim, and can apply to such melee weapons as a rapier if using the feat "Weapon Finesse." All in all, in combat the rogue remains more interested in supporting teammates - and slipping around to Sneak Attack - than in standing up to an opponent with regular blows.
The value of rogues lies in the fact that they are the handymen. Without pure battle or magical power, a rogue can contribute in ways as varied as disarming traps, scouting enemies, and persuading possible allies, using their wealth of skill points (usually twice as many as their teammates', even with Intelligence modifiers) and long list of useful adventuring skills. Where other characters have the power to defeat enemies, the rogue has the wit to track them down and lead the team past traps and barriers on the way to that fight.
Of course some players will end up being trapped into believing that trap disarming is the sole reason for rogues and neglect the combat perks rogues have. Class abilities such as evasion and uncanny dodge already makes then agile combatants. Also sneak attack and certain other skills (bluff, tumble, etc.) makes them tricky but dangerous combatants.
[edit] Multiclassing
The true strength of Rogues lie in their potential to Multiclass. Rogues are effective at combining their class with almost any other class, and in doing so change their Party Duties, so long as their Ability scores match the class somewhat. Multiclassing with the Fighter class gives rogues better weaponry and health, making them stronger in combat and almost viable as tanks. Cleric abilities can increase their support of other characters, healing while staying out of the way in battle. Mixing a Wizard's magic with rogue stealth makes for an interesting combination, as magic can either give them more combat options or enhancments toward stealth. Of course, some classes can't mix with a Rogue sometimes, and require improvisation in order to work.

Awesome Ganalon! I saw that, just didnt have time to comment.
As far as defending pick pockets, I have a hard time even with 202, and 303 ranks of perception. Seems the only real way is to watch the person using that verb, whatever it is..
Watch is the verb
You notice Maselon watching you warily out of the corner of his eyes. woohoo, they even see you watching.. whats the point?
Id rather have something not so obvious, so I can tattle to the constable and get them in trouble.
They changed that a long time ago, perception now helps defend your pockets a lot more than pick pocket skill.
Another indirect benefit of being maxed in perception for archery. ;)

When you single out someone by WATCHing them, that lowers your perception to everyone else in the room. So if there is more than one person stealing, you're very much less likely to see them. So it's better just to keep your stuff closed and coins in the bank if you don't wanna get stolen from.
Either way, I avoid stealing from fellow rogues because 75% of the time they have decent perception (not that I care that I get caught)... but mostly out of respect for being another rogue.

Actually, of all the rogue builds posted, you have not shared your info on Stay (your rogue). Curious...

MBP > FGB, from my experience.

I am sure it is, but how much better.
Try doing health after all the hits as well.. If both brig and mbp give minor wounds, but brig just lets you take a few more damage... its not that big a deal.

very true but I'd like to see how the crit padded brig does for things like motes which historically has been my rogues only bane.
Plus a full log not just clips showing how many more dodges/parries you get in brig vs MBP.
5-15 million for armor doesn't sound that bad at the point most are at in this discussion. I think most people are wearing armor that cost well into the millions.
Not sure why I am even sticking my nose in this arguement cause like stated I am sticking to hauberk.

You've echoed what I've been pondering all along. I want to see the effects considering the concepts of:
1. Dodging: Comparison of encumbrance effects as well as increased ranks due to extra TP's recovered from reduction in armor training. Especially taking into consideration archery training and the effect of dodging with open handed.
2. Crits: Comparison of crits and stun time between hcp brig and mbp.
3. Damage: Comparison of damage experienced between hcp brig and mbp with redux and hp recovery taken into effect at this level of play.
4. Manueverability/Encumbrance: Comparison of effects in defending against manuever attacks.
5. Magic: Comparison of ability to successfully cast spells without armor hindrance with the minimally allocated ranks necessary to negate associated manuever penalties associated with each class (mbp/brig). (This one is obvious since mbp has an elemental hindrance of 90 something%)

If I could be bothered to go through logs, I could post some hits of me in exceptional brig, FGB, decent hauberk, Berr's old MBP and my current unpadded MBP.
I know which the best is for me (because I get hit), and wouldn't change until the cap.
2.4-5x Dodge. 1.5x PT.
In my experience I take less crits from any brig I've ever worn simply because of the DF. The increased CvA makes up for the 10 TD from the old myklin brig I had as well.
I'll post a log of a full hunt later. And if anyone would like to get hit a few times from a two-hander in brig, I'll be happy to do the testing.

Typical hunt. I tend to rove around unhidden and simply wait for them to swing, then attack. They're soft with a low DS. I always ambush the 'phants or the dogs if they prep (always ambush the dogs regardless).

The brawling skill is solely for Voln Fu. She has a +33 buckler, but rarely carries it to keep her encumbrance and manuever penalty down. Defense isn't an issue with mass spells and a +45 set of chain mail, and triple hiding. Dagger ambush is only 4 secs, as well.

This makes me wish I had logs saved of Jolena hunting in her +23 FGB. However, be that as it may, I switched her to +32 MBP for better protection (and she has rather decent dux, mind you) as well for the TD boost. I've not noticed that she takes more damage or worse 'hits' in the MBP, but I have seen a difference in her ability to defend against magic. That made it worth it to me.

I'm still debating trying that experiment with Ganalon with the new fixskills coming up. Worse case scenario I dont like it and use a fixskill potion to go back to mbp. At the very least I'm going to wait and make sure Coase is through screwing with Rogues... :(
My current project is redoing voln for Jaken to prepare for his fixskill back to shield/brawl. He was converted to COL when I first acquired him since there was no tangible benefit being ohe/shield and voln. Now that he's going back to brawl/shield I want to see how well his fu works against the constructs. Not to mention the other benefits of dumping runestaves.
