Korean gold farmers form trade association (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20070124-8693.html)

Does gold farming need its own trade group? Some South Korean gold farmers think so. In the wake of the Korean government's consideration of a bill that would regulate the practice, the country's gold farmers have banded together to form the Digital Asset Distribution Promotion Association.

This isn't as strange as it sounds, considering the size of the market. The Korea Times reports that item trading in Korea alone is worth $1 billion a year, with the majority of that coming from gold farming.

The only reason they profit is the wage is so low in those countries. Gold farming couldn't be done here and compete with what they charge.

In a low cost of living area I’d say its plausible. Of course you would only pay your employees minimum wage under the table with no benefits.

gold farming would be freaking easy here

dont pay them

- set up a building, buy a buncha decent computers
- advertise an adolescent daycare, or just a "Free gaming plaza!"
- get a ton of 7-15 year olds to come by and play the game for free
- provide snacks, and sleeping mats, restroom etc..

they enjoy the game yeah, so why would you need to pay them

sell all the resulting gold/gear, and once in a while the characters as they get advanced enough to be worth something

Current price on a popular site is $15 for 50 gold on our server. Unless you get lucky with drops, you'd have a hard time even breaking even.

Yeah and those kids would most likely be running around fucking off in game instead of farming money and items.

Or mailing gold and items to others not under your ownership, thus leaving you with only experience to the character.
