Say I want to have a small item made out of a rare wood. I have the base item, plus another item made out of the wood I want incorporated into it.
How accepting are the GMs in doing something like this?
Pretty accepting, I've found. As long as you can provide the wood in acceptable amounts, they'll make it. I've never been refused.

The acceptable amount is the important factor. I've had some merchants weigh things out versus your sample, as petty as it is.

K, just weighed both my items and they both say they are under two pounds.

Some GMs don't care. I had one of those generic, alterable lutes made into a sephwir lute for nothing at an event.

I have some wyrwood on my wizard's gear in prime that was a total pain in the ass to get done. It was just a clasp and the GM was basically telling me I would need atleast 3lbs of the shit. Weeks later I found a wyrwood branch in a box, it was 5lbs and prolly meant to turn into arrows. Same GM in question clasped my robe with it and tried to take all 5lbs until I was like, "I want 2lbs of that back please!"
