Improved ESP System Released in Platinum 1/16/2007
GS4-RELEASES: This information regards a new system or software release in GemStone IV.
General Info: Gemstone has expanded the variety of ESP commands and channels available to players.

A list of ESP Channel commands may be found in Platinum through the THINK HELP command or go to the Gemstone Platinum Beta Testing Forum Folder.

After considering the state of thought in Elanthia, GM Alyias formulated a brave plan! Grabbing tweezers and a ratchet wrench he fearlessly descended into the dark and fetid recesses of our minds. For many months he has tirelessly tinkered and tweaked in these barren caverns while we remained blissfully unaware of the great work going on inside our heads.

Gemstone has expanded the variety of ESP commands and channels available to players.

A list of ESP Channel commands may be found in game by typing THINK HELP. Following is a detailed explanation of those commands and how these they can enhance your ability to contact others.

Using the THINK command you can send your thoughts either to everyone (within range) on a particular thought channel or target your thoughts towards a specific individual or group. The expanded thought channel options include:

General - for speaking to people in your general geographic area

Merchant - for selling items to people in your general geographic area

Guild - to keep in touch with members of your profession in your general geographic area

Friends - Using THINK HELP you can see who from your Befriend (neutral or higher) list is in the game. Private "Friends Only" thought networks are possible. Details appear below.

Houses and Halls - Officially inducted members of a Great House (CHE) or Hall (PRO) can think to fellow members anywhere in Elanthia.

To see which of the above options is available to your character, type THINK HELP.

If you believe you will use one of your channel options more than the others, you may wish set that option as your DEFAULT. To do this, type THINK DEFAULT <channel>. Now when you type THINK <message> your thoughts will automatically go out to the selected option, unless you retarget those thoughts using a semi-colon.

For example, let us say my character spends the majority of its thought network time on the merchant channel. I might wish to input THINK DEFAULT MERCHANT, so that in the future all I need to type is THINK <message> to send my thoughts to the merchant channel. However, if my default thoughts are set to MERCHANT, but I wish to greet everyone in my Hall, Cairnfang, I can retarget my thoughts using a semi-colon:

THINK CAIRNFANG;Hello fellow Carfangians!

If I wish to think to a specific person in Cairnfang:

THINK CAIRNFANG <name>;<message>.

People who have befriended each other at level neutral or above have the ability to create a private network. If I sign in and see my friend Alyias is on line I can THINK ALYIAS;Good morning! Now, until Alyias or I sign off, I will hear all of the thoughts people send via THINK ALYIAS;<message>, yet this network will be hidden from people who have not befriended and been befriended by Alyias. To think to all of his friends at once Alyias would also use THINK ALYIAS;<message>.

In addition Premium members will receive notification when befriended players (neutral or higher) become available on an ESP channel they are tuned into..

For a completely private thought THINK TO <name> is still the way to go. People must be within the same geographic region to receive private or friend network thoughts.

You can locate the people who are reachable via the thought network by typing THINK WHO <channel name>.

If you target a player for your thoughts and that player is unable to hear you, you will receive a failure message.

If this is too much thinking for you and you decide to avoid the thoughts of a specific person or group use THINK IGNORE HELP learn how to keep various thoughts from your mind.

Premium users have a separate option that will allow them to select a HIDDEN ON CHANNEL setting. This setting will hide your presence, either globally (if you select the global option), or on the channel you select. This means your name will not be listed when other players use the THINK WHO option.

One note on the Stormfront windows, if you belong to more than one Hall (PRO) any settings you select in the SF ESP window will affect the settings of every Hall you are a member of. If you wish different Halls to have different settings, make your changes manually in the game.

This is an excellent new system, hooray for Alyias. I especially like the PRO/CHE access, and provides a more IC method of communication than the PSInet thoughts or outside IMs. Bravo.

Also, that explination seemed to definitely be set up from the perspective of a global thought net, which of course Plat has. I do wonder if they will have modified thought net ranges at all when it is released into prime.

Yah being able to communicate with fellow CHE or PRO members globally is a great addition, especially for military based groups. Not that I am not overjoyed at being able to communicate with EE members globally, but still, yay for the improvements overall!

I would not expect Plat's global thought net to be altered with the exception of the additions like befriend list, etc. Plat has droppage and such a small, spread out population that global thought on a regular means is necessary.

I did check out the rest of the folder to see if there were complaints/bugs submitted yet by Plat, but so far no.

Err, so wait. Is the friends channel global? Yay for my crappy comprehension skills. I wonder if the CHE pins will be needed to access the CHE global net in prime. Did PROs ever have their own pins?

I would imagine in Plat, yes they are all global, because the original thought net is global there. But, I do not expect, nor did I take from that post, that befriends lists would be global for Prime.

Yea, I don't have a clue why Platinum is BETA testing this. If anything, it makes the amulet look odd now and we have global ESP as is. With I think only 2 or 3 PROs, there isn't many people to 'test' it out to my understanding.

Though it was buggy this evening when trying to think to someone.

Alyias posted tonight that the bug reports have been fixed unless something slipped past, and he clarified certain things that were discovered that are now features of the new system.

When a person dies, they will have a short time (less than a minute) to get one last thought out on the amunet. Also, the hard RT has been removed, but possibly replaced with something else.

The channel names now are able to be toggled between OOC channel labels, IC channel labels or none at all.

General: quiet
Merchant: pounding
Guild: humming
CHE: buzzing
Personal channels (all): murmuring
PRO channels (all): whispering

I haven't been in Plat to test the specifics, but they do sound promising.

No, its referring to this You hear the thoughts of Dhask(general) <---- being the ooc channel you can pick(merchant, guild, etc).

Btw I tossed the thought part off the top of my head so if its not exact feel free to correct it.

You have it right, Kyra. You can either have the individual channels labeled in an IC or OOC manner, such as the General channel can either be labeled General or Quiet. It's all still an IC communications medium.
