I saw this thread and decided to partake of one of my favorite past times... ridiculing the pictures posted on www.gothornot.com

I got through maybe 10 photos before having to stop... here are a few of my favorites:

Goth1 - Wearing a black skull t-shirt, camo pants and holding a very gothy skull! AND WITH A BLACK LIGHT! Clearly the master of gothitude, i really dig the background though... clearly taken in his mother's living room, complete with snowman miniatures. Definitely Goth.

Goth2 - I just can't comment... the sexy pinstripe shirt and apron clearly denotes the miserable truth that Goth knows now the limitations of a suck-ass job with a suck-ass uniform. Clearly this kid is expressing his horrible middle-class white suburban oppression.

Goth3 - I just really dig the awesomesauce wallpaper in this one... nothing says "express myself" like long hair, black clothes and eyeliner combined with the cheerful white wallpaper. That expression? "I wear my mom's underwear"

If my kids EVER try that shit they're gonna get a fucking boot to face.

That's goth now? Fuck, I have to find myself a new subculture; I guess I'm just old :)

I saw a good one at the mall christmas shopping -- HUGE (meatily so, not I-work-out-every-3-hours so) guy with actual horns for hair at the temples (dyed flaming red, the rest shaved), red and black lipstick, chains, trench (all black clothes, red upside down pentacle decal), more facial makeup than a clinique counter, and one of those nose to ear chains that made me want to run over and rip it out (I hate those damn things).

I apologize for the lack of pictures.

Don't be insensitive... he was probably a Neo-Goth

Neo-goths are SO nonconformist they don't call themselves Goths. I call this Goth^2

Unless of course you ARE Goth, in which case the Neo-goths are just the "posers" who are PRETENDING to be Goth for attention

I heard all about it at Hot Topic (for all your pre-packaged subculture needs - HOT TOPIC!) while I was shopping for a new pair of $400 thigh-high boots for my mother's Christmas present.

I rememberize this event very clearly because of your description of the urge to yank one of those nose-ear-face chains out of some punk kid who clearly needed to have been beaten more as a child.

This guy (http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=1258173) hangs out at the local coffee shop . . . he's a pretty nice guy but . . . fuck man.

He's got plenty of emo/goth friends for your viewing pleasure.

 I'm not sure he was punk, since I tend to find punk guys attractive :O

But running with the concept: Now, there's Punk-o-Goth, Indi-Goth, and their two friends: Emo-Goth, and Romanti-Goth. Just $19.99 each from Matel. Barbie style special for Hot Topic.

Really, I've just been out of the "loop" since I lived in Michigan from 2001-2003 and then lived in the sticks from 2003-2005, so I actually was marvelling at how goth has evolved.

The cheerful white wallpaper has a sheen reflective of the flash used to take the photo that looks more like contact paper for dish cabinets than standard wallpaper.

Good gods these kids are pretty screwed up.

Most the 'rock' music that has been coming out is just as butchered up as half the shit pop music. Triple tracked and cleaned up.

The new hair metal.

Goth is as old as Joy Division and Bauhaus. Wait... its as old as Victorian times! Except they didn’t have the rock music and piercings back then. They definitely had the bad hair, make-up, black clothes and attitudes.

Please excuse me finding Emo synonymous with goth... but I am reminded of the view of one of my personal heroes... Maddox

WARNING... side effects of Maddox may include headache, cramping, anal bleeding and/or death.

Maddox's site is very politically incorrect, may be considered NSFW in some circles, and shouldn't be viewed by anyone who can't understand sarcasm.
