View Full Version : Brawling?

Ok, just for fun, I took all my skill out of edged and maxed out in brawling with it.
With voln fu, I am able to kill things more than twice my age. It's crazy. I was killing Ice Wraiths and Phantasms without problems. My open handed DS was insane. I was having no problem defeating creatures that I had a whole lot of trouble killing with my blade.
My question is this.
Would it be a good idea for a ranger to just stick with this and become a pure brawler?
Use brawling weapons and voln fu instead of swords and shields?
I havn't been able to test brawling weapons yet.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Can rangers 2x brawling? I know bards can't.

Yep we can. I fully doubled in it.

Well, Maimara was a brawler, and let me tell you: Brawling weapons suck. YOu'll never be able to swing with them. Not at anything that's worth hunting.

I'm hoping the Cm where you push in close will adjust things enough to make brawling weapons a more viable choice.

So it's general consensus that pure brawling is not a viable choice, then?
thought I'd add..
>kick banshee
You attempt to kick a banshee!
MB: 260 vs MB: 59 = 201 -- Gain advantage!
Blinding speed! Moved behind opponent.
THT 74, d100 roll: 58, modified: 259
and hits for 61 points of damage!
... +17 extra hits. Double spin flying roundhouse shatters skull and
turns brain to jelly. Foe dies instantly!
You hear a sound like a weeping child as a white glow separates itself from the banshee's body as it rises, disappearing into the heavens.
The banshee slumps to the ground, exhales a sigh of relief, and begins to quickly decay away.
Roundtime: 4 sec.
That's at 28.....

I hear it gets really weak around the 60's-70's.
I guess you could wander up to bonespear and try, though shearfear might make it a pain in the ass.

There is a gap yes. Some, if not all brawling weapons are pretty much useless, however, with the maneuvers nearly here...I'd go archery. Its uber at high levels.

I just found it pretty decent that I was hunting Banshees at 28 without being touched.
Lords and Phantasmas were no trouble as well.
My voln fu was at 260 with mobiles.
it was great

Phants will own you at 28, regardless of how easy it is to hit you. I prefer quickstriked ambushing. A 4 second rt on a claidh hit was pretty nice...
