I am having serious issues with my wireless router connection. The game will wind up pausing for 60++ seconds cause no data is received from the router connection.
So I am trying to improve my connection except I have no clue what I am doing.
I have a Linksys 2.4GHz 802.11b
Now I tried to play with Fragmentation threshold, Rate(Mbps), and the RTS threshold.
But, I decided I dont know what to change them to for a better connection.
My Frag threshold was at 2346, my rate was on Auto, and my RTS threshold was at 2347.
I changed this to 1800, 1, and 1801. It reconnected, then shortly after it disconnected and wouldnt come back on.
Had a couple problems now with it, I try and change something and it just locks up. Had to restart the computer to get my internet connection back.
Anyhow, someone wanna help me understand and fix this thing?
I would appreciate any help!

Restore all the settings to default. If that doesn't work, do a forced setting reset on the router (there should be one of those paper clip buttons on the back). Download and install the most recent firmware for the router. You'll need to do this from the computer that's connected directly to the router.
Also, before tinkering around with your router settings, make sure it's actually a problem with the router, and not your cable modem/ISP.

Yah, try taking the router out of the mix by connecting your computer directly to the modem to make sure you are not having a general slowdown from your isp or modem issues.
Don't want to waste who knows how many hours trying to fix a problem in one area when it resides in another.

OK, all the settings were originally on default I believe.
There are actually three computers, one hooked to the cable modem and the router, one hooked to the router, and one using the router via wireless connection.
Mine is the wireless connection. So I checked the internet on the other computers first. They seemed to be working fine, although the comps themselves are rather slow, the connection was faster then my own computers internet.
So I tried what you said with that lil paperclip button thats hard to push.. It reset my name from what I had back to Linksys, and it worked for a bit. Then slowed right back down to what I was having trouble with before, if not slower.
Anyhow, whats firmware? You mean like the most recent drivers?
PS my computer is two rooms away from the cable modem and router. Id hate to have to lug the thing over there. Especially when another computer in that room is already getting a better internet connection.
Although I havent tried playing gemstone on those computers, the rest of it, web pages/downloads and all that seem faster.

Are you connecting to the router directly?

You can upgrade your firmware to the latest version.
Also, make sure your wireless is secure, someone could just be stealing most your signal.
The password is admin, leave the username blank, in case you needed to know.

Eh? There shouldn't be a computer hooked directly to the cable modem. I'm not even sure how that would be possible without a splitter. The cable modem goes directly into the router, and only the router.
Firmware is essentially a driver for an external device like a router. Go to linksys.com, go to support -> downloads, choose your router from the list, and follow the links to download the firmware (on a pc that's hooked directly to the router with an ethernet cable). The firmware should have instructions telling you exactly what to do.
While you're at it, update the drivers for the wireless card in your PC.
Also, does your router only flake out when you're playing that game you mentioned? Or even while doing regular stuff like browsing the net?

Mostly during gemstone, but sometimes during web browsing.
