Stupid sewage backing up.
I thought I'd share, I'm pissed I can't take a shower. Or eat. Or... anything else.

Uh... wow... that's the grossest thing I could imagine and now I'm scared that it could ever happen to me. Imagine like showering and... I can't complete the thought.

I woke up and my roommate was like DON'T DO ANYTHING THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH WATER, IT'S NASTY. And me being me, I checked it out. She was right, it is gross. And our maintenance guy hasn't showed up, nor will he until we call the housing authority I bet. I hate renting.

Yeah, but it took them 3 months to fix our garbage disposal, and our windows so we didn't have bugs in here. Imagine how long it's going to take them to get to this.

Garbage disposal isn't a necessity. As long as the windows exist, leaking windows aren't that big a deal - you can always cover it with plastic til someone gets around to fixing it.
Water, on the other hand, is an emergency situation. If he doesn't fix it or send someone to fix it within 24 hours, call the health department.

This is a health hazard. If it were me, I'd be in a motel right now, and the landlord would get the bill.

A garbage disposal isnt a health matter you can get along just fine if it is working or not. Sewer issues are bad ju ju so they will fix them ASAP.. If not well then umm put a clothespin on your nose and get a hotel room .. Im sorry you have Shit all over

If they don't fix it very soon, they are a slum lord and should be reported!
I agree with Peam, best thread title ever!!

They are slum lords, why do you think we get rent so cheap? When we moved in, we found out the people that got evicted trashed the place when they left. Our back stairs still stink like dog piss even though I've shampooed them like 3 times, and I've found empty crack vilals and syringes in our heating vents.

Check the landlord/tenant act in your state. There should be a pamphlet available (I got one from the local legislative office). Water/sewer/heat/electricity are essential services and if a landlord withholds those services for any reason (including nonpayment of rent) he's in a world of trouble. You will have to check the statutes, but in this state after like 24 or 48 hours you can rent a hotel room and charge the landlord for it and he legally has to pay it.
Check into it. You can't live like that.
There is shit in my bathtub.
Thanks for sharing. Sure your roomate didn't mistake the tub for the toilet in a drunken stuppor?

If it is backing up all of your drains then most likely it is a problem for the entire building.. What type of rent is it? Are you renting a row home, double, apt in a big building? If it is a big building, that guy will have to fix it fast with a whole building of people complaining.
I have done plumbing for about a year with my uncle part time, usually this type of stuff is just one major clog in the soil line.

Hrrm...we used to have our sewer line back every other year or so when i was little, but it would only come into the basement, never up out anything on the upper floors.
We finally had to just have the main sewer line snaked once a year as a preventative measure and that stopped it. We had so many trees it seems the roots were clogging it or something.
The smell always was just awful. I'm so sorry to hear you are having this problem. Please do call the health dept if it is not corrected in 24 hours as it must be a violation of health codes anywhere.
Good luck with the shit.
brown showers turn me on.

1. Peam is sick.
2. It's a house converted into a duplex. Two renters live here, myself/my roommate, and the couple that live downstairs. WE've both called numerous times to the 'emergency number' (which is a pager) and never recieved an call back.

Call the health department. Don't waste your time waiting for a slumlord to call you back. He won't.
Call the health department AND the Water Pollution Control Authority in your town. Every town has one, it's usually just referred to as the WPCA. You can get connected to their office if you call the town hall's main switchboard.
Let them know your building has a backed-up main sewer line, and your landlord has refused to answer your messages left on his machine/voicemail for the past 24 hours, and that there are feces (use that word when talking to authorities!) coming out of all water faucets and the toilet.
Accept the fact that if there are enough OTHER problems with the building, they might condemn it and make you find somewhere else to live. At the very least though, they'll issue an order requiring someone to snake the pipe immediately and get whatever plumber they have on contract for this sort of thing over there on the same day. And then the WPCA will bill the landlord, and you won't have to shell out a single coin.

Feces are not coming out of the actual faucet... they are probably coming up from the drains.
If they are coming out of your faucets.. then you have major problems that will only be corrected by moving.

This is the part that would scare me the most. Cheap ass rent is hard to find when you are younger. Id page the pager three or four times an hour if i was bored and grossed out enough and try the other phone numbers too. Id be as big of a pain in the ass as possible til it was fixed. Also go to his house and knock on the door(if you know where it is) Ive always known where my landlord lives so i guess i assume most do.
Moving in the winter sucks!

Yeah, man, 800 bucks for our big ass 2-bedroom duplex, with a garage, front/back yard, basement, and attic? That's unreal.
The house isn't condemnable, I don't think, unless this is something t hey can't fix.

And it only took them like an hour of digging around with an industrial high-powered snake. All I remember is waking up and listening to the beautiful sound of rooting in the drains and being happy.
