View Full Version : Christmas Gift appreciation post: The good, the bad, and the ugly.
I'd like to offer up a hearty thank you to my neighbors who got my 4 year old son an electronic drum set for Christmas. (PS. The 20 foot tall iceberg that is sitting in your backyard this morning is not from the cold weather, but from the 5 gallons of Dawn dishwashing liquid I dumped in your pool last night as a thank you gift.)

Your neighbors buy your gifts? Damn.. I need to move there.
They love my son, he reminds them of their grandchildren who live in Hawaii.
They are great neighbors, even if they are from New York. ;)
I racked up at work this year. Starting with almost $200.00 in gift cards from co-workers. I'm rather difficult to shop for as I'm picky as hell. Some people consider gift cards impersonal, but I prefer them from people who I'm not close to in my private life.
My Christmas only got better after that. Anyone else get a Wii, and if so how are you liking the play style so far?

My wife told me no more game units. Then we went to a friend's house that has one and she is so totally gonna let me get one. I quite enjoyed playing except that the game play with the controllers seemed a little jumpy/laggy.

That thing has an impressive ability to right itself...
Imagine rapid firing a rifle into a crowd of people. That's me after listening to that thing for extended periods.
Now please excuse me, I am going to scout out good sniper positions at the local mall...
This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is MINE...
muahahaha. I might be joining you if this drum machine doesnt run out of battery power soon. And no, duct tape over the speaker doesnt help. I'm just thankful he's not old enough to hook the thing up to the Bose system via the Audio jacks on the back. :spaz:

Bad: Apple corer (er, wtf?)
Ugly: Fuzzy vest with leopard print collar and cuffs.

I got a dainty snow white dress which is pretty much perfectamundo. I also got an mp3 player which I'm not sure where I'll ever use, maybe on long trips? But it was a nice gift all the same. No bad or ugly, just  all the way around! :)

I got an Oscar de la Renta and a Calvin Klein suit for the interviewing soon to be done for my summer job. Shirts, ties, socks. All in all, a good haul.
Oh, and I got the rest of the Kushiel's Legacy series. Read Kushiel's Dart a few years back, been dying to finish the rest of them.

The bad: Not mine but a gift for someone else.. Overstock.com sent me the wrong item so they have to wait another week for their gift. Not buying from them again. Horrible customer service too.
The Good: Playing monopoly til 3am with my best friend and her husband. That's a beautiful gift, to me.

I won't get into bad gifts.
But USB guitar, wireless guitar controller for Guitar Hero, Evil Star CD + CD rack, 8" portable DVD player, some crazy gaming chair with speakers + vibration, and Bully were pretty awesome to get.
Oh, and a dozen pouches of Big League Chew.
I bought myself a ps3 and a LCD flat panel TV but I also got some stuff I wanted from the fam.. ski rack and monster mats for my car, a new work coat, puppy stuff, etc.

I got a prepaid The Burning Crusade from EB (can anyone say 1/16/07?) and a 60 day game card from the wife. I guess she is okay with me playing again.
Got a pair of Dockers shorts.. a never miss gift. I also got a MP3 player errr I mean I got my wife a MP3 player.
The Good:
I got some books and CD's that have been on my list to get. Clothes - always a good score. Top 2 things are 1)being able to share opening morning with my 4 year old son who's just discovering the joy of receiving gifts for Christmas. 2)getting a note from a recruiter (today) wanting to arrange for a final series of interviews for a big insurance firm I've been working on the past 3 months.
The Bad:
Another desk calendar.
The Ugly:
Nothing qualified for this category this year. It was iffy with receiving clothes, but I got lucky. :)

The Good:
Awesome coat, scarf and hat. Now I have something to keep me warm besides my somewhat cheesy school hoodie. <3
The Bad:
A book I'll never read - I asked for A Clockwork Orange and Trainspotting, I got a book that sounds like a rip off of The DaVinci Code. :(
The Ugly:
Nothing here, my clothes this year were great.

Non crumbly mage rechargeable?
Maybe -- my aunt is the director of an art museum or something in NC, so she's artsy and always finds all this cool ancient looking stuff. I'll check and see if scintillating light surrounds my hands when I rub it.

Good: Money, a new wii game + strategy guide, 2000 wii points, and a 2g wii SD memory card, a white gold ring set with a princess-cut blue topaz (birthstone), lots of light blue DS accessories (case, game holders, etc.) to match my DS, tons of pink grapefruit-scented stuff from Bath & Body Works, a star (my mom is a weirdo and "bought" me one located inside the Sagittarius constellation), Guitar Hero 2 + second guitar, and the 10th Anniversary Limited Edition Collector's Set of Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth, OMG!! <333
Bad: Four new tires and a catalytic converter... even though I needed them, they shouldn't have counted as a Christmas present. :(

I spent 16 hours working on christmas
Came home to an empty house and had saltines and orange juice for my dinner, went to bed about 15 minutes later.
Had to be up in 8 hours for work again.
Christmas sucked this year.

Good: lol just talked to a coworker who, due to medical bills, had a really slim pickings kind of Christmas last year. She said this year the best gift she got was running out of video tape in their camcorder because it took so long for the kids to open their presents. Awesome.

That ICE exhibit the the Gaylord Palms was unreal! My kids loved it and the ice slides were a huge hit. Have fun!

Good: Seeing James and our oldest rocking it on the Gears of War and Halo2 games I bought them to go with the Xbox360 I got them. Watching all of my kids go "OH. MY. GOD!!!! YES!" when they opened their gifts and realized they had a trampoline.
My new video camera, which I used to get it all on tape.
My NEW SOPRANOS GAME FOR PS2 (MUCH <3 for the Sopranos!!)
My new microwave cause ours went kaput.
Not having to cook Christmas dinner because my mom did.
Having my mom here for Christmas holidays.
Not having school during Christmas for 2 weeks completely FTW.
Bad: Knowing James was so exhausted from working 14 hour days for a week to really enjoy things.

Good: beautiful jewelry set from my husband and kids and an IOU for a new sewing machine I can pick out at sears. Two DVD's I wanted. Some nice clothes and scrapbooking stuff so I can get our disney trip done. Living room furnature we ordered before thanksgiving came in two days before! Spending 10 days with my kids off of work and school.
Watching my son open the PS game he wanted and putting my daughters barbie house together with her. Seeing their faces light up and screams because they got the new sheets and blankets they wanted (wierd kids)
Cracking jokes about the vibrating back massage my hubby got for my daughter (6 yr old) cause she always gives him back rubs.
Suprising my hubby with a new puter chair and "The Longest Day" DVD.
Bad: Mother-in-law nagging us about not calling my husbands brother on Christmas morning (WTF). Mother-in-law buying a ton of tiny crap toys that will get thrown out in a day after breaking cause she wanted to fill the stockings.
Ugly: the socks my mother in law bought me... and the book I will never read.

Good: Getting a euchre set in the stizzocking.
Bad, Ugly, and everything inbetween: Teaching my mother and my 82 year old grandmother how to play Euchre, and why the Jack in the trump suit is somehow higher than the Ace, King, Queen.

Good: I got a ton of jewelry this year. Love all of it! I got cash, which is always useful, and I also got avon stuff. Christmas food is always good
Bad: I have to still go out this week and finish christmas shopping since I haven't yet. Thank god for the cash I got as gifts.
Ugly: Our fridge is like a barren wasteland now, we so have to restock on goodies for the new year. Christmas is expensive!

The Good: Of course the warm fuzziness of seeing the kids so excited and happy, but the autographed Manning jersey is a really seriously close contender. Ahem.
The Bad: I didn't get to make the trip I wanted to and a bottle of Pleasures perfume which, judging by the red itchy splotches and scratching.. I seem to be allergic to it.
The Ugly: An aunt gave me a really and truly horrific baby blue rocking recliner that's like 4 foot wide. It fits in so tackily amongst my chocolate suede furniture and black wrought iron fixtures. Aside from the fact that it matches NOTHING I own, it also takes up like half the free space in my living room. I attempted to work it in that I really did not need or want it but she explained that she saved up for months to purchase it for me because she thought it was so perfect.

The Good: New kitchen appliances, including my awesome waffle iron. Old ornaments my mother sent me from when we decorated the tree as kids, as well as cool stained glass ornaments she made. Getting to spend Christmas with Mike.
The Bad: The crazy amounts of chocolate given to me by coworkers, as if I don't already have 300 pounds left over already from the holiday parties I helped cook for.
The Ugly: My aunt gave me a crap load of really tacky costume jewelry.. and I'm just not a jewelry person.... and the cabbage-laden polish food I was forced to consume at Mike's family parties. Yeesh.

Good: Tie rack, ties, 2 suits from S&K, cufflinks and tie clips with my intials. (CMO title here I come!)

Update: Am now proud owner of Cindy Crawford Summer Days perfume too. Yay.

Good: 3 DVDs (including Invincible), a B&N gift card, and some clothes from the alma mater. (cousins who attend the same university as you ftw)
Bad: Decent dress shirt that is the wrong size.
Ugly: Buying tickets (first level seats) to a Rockets game next week for my obsessed Rockets fan of a cousin, only to have Yao fracture his knee the next day.

12-28-2006, 03:03 AM
Good: Watching my 3year old nephew dominate his wrapping paper and the look on his face as he saw what he got. (for some reason he wouldn't put down the batteries to something or another.) Guitar Hero II, and finally joining the minions of Ipod, and a new bottle of the panty dropper scent know as Aqua Di Gio. Oh and finally getting to take a shower where I get to choose the temperature of the water for the first time in months apon months. (Hate my apartments water management.)
Bad: My 3year old nephew waking me up at 8am on my vacation or my dads dogs waking me up at 8am. Or my stepsister waking her son up at 8am and him screaming.
Ugly: Not sure if I'm getting what I really wanted for X-mas. The 7 hour+ drive back home (because my tallass and bad knee doesn't like cramped plane rides.) Finding out you are allergetic to the deoderant you've been using for 5 years.
