Alright computer people, give me suggestions. Cheap ones. My power cord for my laptop is in the process of taking a shit. (I think) it makes this HORRENDOUS buzzing mosquito sound when it is plugged in and if I don't lay the cord JUST RIGHT it wont charge.

Do I need to get a new power cord all together or is there something technical I can do to fix this before having to go that route?

buy a new one from Best Buy?

Your CORD makes a buzzing sound? Um... that might be a fire hazard, the cord is going to be cheaper than a fire.

When's the last time laptops manufactured a battery? And it's not like power supplies haven't exploded (maybe not in recall numbers) but... here I am, on a laptop, not exploding. I prefer my quasi-mobility thank you.

As for Shari... is it the cord or the power block on the cord or the battery or your laptops fans... coming from where in the laptop? Go to your power management (right click desktop, properties, screen saver, power) and set it so that it's the same on battery as it is plugged in... see if that makes a difference.

woops, I was thinking about RMClock settings... um, do you have a fan RPM monitor (intel proset software in your programs possibly). Basically help us isolate this a bit more.

This alone says you need a new cord, no matter where the noise is coming from.

Laptop cords can be purchased almost anywhere if they have been released for aftermarket production. Any store like BestBuy, Fry's, CompUSA, Circuit City, etc. will have them or universal ones that range from 30 to 130 bucks. If you have a Dell you'll need to visit the Dell website and do a part search for power cords under your model type.

I picked up a spare AC cord for under 30 bucks and a AC/DC universal cord for 80 bucks off the Dell website. So they're prices arent that unreasonable if thats your laptop manufacturer.

Maybe your computer just SHARTED and it'll be fine tomorrow?

Agree 100%, I was just wondering if she needed to replace anything else. For the cost this wouldn't be something to mess with, they might decide to ream you, but you could also end up doing some serious damage (burninate more than just your laptop)

Yeah, while I'd echo Ganalon's statement (cheap replacements are available and are wise), you might also make sure that it isn't the adapter port on the computer. If it's loose, then buying a new AC adapter isn't going to help a lot (and your statement about laying it "just right" supports that notion.).

Warranty? If your laptop is under Warranty or if there was a recall on that model of power cord, you might be able to get it replaced for free.

Dude...they haven't been called sneakers for twenty years. Running shoes!

:(

I still call them 'tennis shoes' or sneakers.

Running shoes? :wtf:
I dont think I've heard anyone down in these parts call generic sneakers that... now if we're discussing specifically 'running' shoes then we refer to them appropriately.

I call mine 'tennis shoes' but only because they actually are for tennis. My other pairs are either 'shoes' or 'sneakers'.

1) Get a new cord. I seriously can't believe you felt the need to come here for guidance when something like the cord of your computer is fux0red up. It's the cheapest part to replace. What do you do when the bulbs of your lamps burn out?

2) They're sneakers. Running, tennis, walking are for what they were designed for. All others are sneakers.

You will save $$$ by getting a 17" screen laptop so that the amount of plastic-encased parts melt less (heat dispersal and whatnot.)

Use it in the coolest room. That cyborg sharting is the sound of dead fan in constant turbo. Prolly.
