View Full Version : Couple questions... Grandfathered names..

I have a couple questions I'm hoping some of you can help me out with.

1. Grandfathered names - I know there are a few with numbers in them, but are all the first names of characters in the game AlphaNumeric, or are there some with hypens or other odd characters (if so, which characters).

2. Fame list - is there any sort of activity assosiated with this? (IE if a character were to quit now, close their account, would they stay on the list?)

3. "Stealthy" merchants - I have seen situations where merchants have logged in without "joining the adventure", but then do show up on the status list. Is this always the case or do they occasionally stay hidden from the status list (as GMs do)

4. Instanced rooms - Short of Mj Sanctuary or a house, are there any other instanced rooms, where you can rest unmolested (node not required). For example (I'm not sure this is) behind the deed curtain in the landing (do they kick you out of this? can others still get deeds while you're there?)

1. Grandfathered names - I dont know of any beyond the #s like Waldo2.. but that doesnt mean much.

2. Fame list - I am pretty sure if you set fame on, check in to an inn, and have your fame on the list. It will stay on the list forever, or until you have 1000 other people with more fame. There are several people on the top of the fame list that havent moved for years, and I am 99% sure they havent logged into the game for years.

3. "Stealthy" merchants - No idea

4. Instanced rooms - Landing deed curtain, I have not tried to get kicked out - but at times I took long enough that I got the impression I would be kicked out before long. And offhand I dont know of any other 'safe' rooms that would turn off location efforts

1. Haven't seen with hyphens in the first name. (Last name, I'm pretty certain there are some.)

2. What Brian said.

3. Yes, merchants can stay off the status list. I'm almost certain I've seen that happen before.

4. You can get kicked out of the deed curtain in the Landing. Don't know of any other instanced rooms though.

I can only think of one really. In the Bastille in Ta'Vaalor. If you go up the steps and the end of the hallway is an old cell. It is a complete no magic zone, and hides you from others. If you hide in there, then nobody can find you, but you can not spell up either.

1.) I think it's just Eyes1 and Waldo2, there may or may not have been other people with hyphens running around, but these are the only two still playing with non-alphabet characters in their name.

2.) Yes they would. I remember hearing a story of someone on the fame list named xxx Gunfire, who had quit. Some GM went in and changed the last name to Junfire or something like that - so you definitely stay on the fame list after quitting.

3.) This is not always the case, I think they can set it in the launcher or something.

4.) The deed curtain in the landing I believe is instanced, but they will eventually kick you out and yes, others can still get deeds. Not sure there are any others.

4.) Plenty of rooms like that in the guilds. Specifically in the warriors guild there are the wheel room, the dummies room, the Masters practicing area, doors etc. Pretty sure none that are noded though. Also you probably have to be assigned that task to enter them so ferget it.

1. Grandfathered names - That rule doesn't necessarily mean a character has a number in their name. A grandfathered name is pretty much any name that under current naming conventions would not be acceptable.

2. Fame List - The fame list is updated when a person has their fame ON and they CHECK IN at an inn. If a person closes their account, as long as they have enough fame, they will remain on the lists.

3. Stealthy merchants - Merchant characters are just GM's with a prettier title. Just like a GM can conceal some of their movements, a merchant can, as well.

4. Instanced rooms - I believe the deed curtain will kick you out eventually. Originally, only one person could get a deed at a time and believe me, you'd be killed for going afk in there. Currently, multiple players can get a deed at one time. Try going to a table if you want someplace to hide in, or a latching room, or just a secluded area that people rarely go to. Lots of those around.

Is it possible to get kicked out of the maiden in the castle?

I was aware of this, I just know that now non-alphabet only first names are unacceptable... I wanted to know if there are any punctuations grandfathered in.

2. Fame List - (various answers)

Okay, so quiting doesn't mean removal, thanks.

3. Stealthy merchants

So it seems the concensus is that they can continue to hide from status (this question stemmed from the fact that at the anfelt, most merchants would not "join the adventure" but would be on the status list... so if you spammed status you could see when they logged in).

4. Instanced rooms - Originally, only one person could get a deed at a time and believe me, you'd be killed for going afk in there.

Yes I quite remember that... very frustrating, but the fact that it's instanced plays to my needs... The bastille seems promising, I'll check it out, but I might just take some seculded table (I didn't want to tie up a table.. there are finite tables).

I guess I could have told my intentions at the start and it would have made for more relevant answers... I've got part of a bot that would watch arrivals/disconnects/leaves, and every ten minutes or so check the status. Between that and checking fame/profiles I'm hoping to be able to compile a demographic. (Reason I didn't post my reasons is because I'll probably give up before I finish... that and I'll get several "why would you want to do that")

If your "bot" is a part of a Great House, they have tables...and depending on the House, those tables are rarely used (at least, the one or two Houses that I know about aren't).

I believe if someone is in the maiden in the castle, and won't come out you can....ahem...close the maiden, and they'll tumble out, all spiked and punctured. It's awesome.

but that might be my ancient memory making shit up, it's been a long time since I hunted Darkstone.

^ Yep. I remember, a long time ago, closing it on people. Then Chadj's wizard would cast meteor swarm and we'd open it and run.
