Heh. That right there is my very first alter from about five years ago.
Back then, I was told I couldn't get an "Ashrim" alter, because Ashrim was no more (this was before they had released information on what exactly the elven House crests looked like).
I got into a big arguement with the merchant, saying that even though they were destroyed I should still be able to get their crest put upon an item.
He consulted with other GMs and said he'd do it if I put the word "fake" in there somewhere. He said everyone was concerned I'd go around claiming to have an Ashrim artifact or worse...that I'd claim to be an Ashrim elf! ::gasp::
I said, "Instead of saying fake Ashrim ring, how about ANCIENT Ashrim ring?" He disagreed. After what seemed like another damn hour of arguement we reached a concensous with the current form. He let me know though that he hated that he was doing this, as did the other GMs he had been consulting. What a nice guy! Did I mention this was my very first alter?
Would not be selling this, except that....heavens to betsy! They went and made a god-damned Ashrim quest on the Wavedancer! And at the end of that quest they give you a super cool ring with enhancive properties! And when I asked a merchant to alter that ring into "an ancient Ashrim ring" he actually did it!
Would not be selling this so cheap, except everyone hates it and thinks it is ugly.
Anyway, that's the history of the item. Enjoy!

HOLD UP. There's was an ASHRIM quest on the last Wavedancer?
That would of been an interesting thing to go on. Damn Peace Corps.

Yeah, and what's more everyone HATED it except those of us that RP Ashrim in some form. I went with my buddy who RPs a full blooded Ashrim descendent, whereas I'm a half-blood with no real proof of any Ashrim heritage and just a chest full of dusty old items that serve as clues. We had a blast! The quest teleports you (accidently) back in time to one of the Ashrim populated isles. The Ashrim there percieve you and the others as reenforcements to fight off the Faendryl. You destroy the Faendryl, but one gets through and summons demons which eventually get bigger and bigger and kill you. It is a no-win quest, seeing as you can't save the Ashrim.
I got an RPA (my first ever!) and I got my quest ring altered into by dream description, and what's more when a bard sings to it my enhancive ring (and only my ring) says "Only an Ashrim can use it." Heh. Nice personal touch by the GMs for the character who never had any proof he had Ashrim blood.
Everyone else hated the quest though, mostly because they couldn't win. People were real jackasses during it too, killing the Ashrim soldiers instead of the Faendryl and talking constantly (out loud) about how boring this was and how they want to go back and shop and about how many alters they'd gotten so far.
Anyway, I liked it.

Fucking A. I play a full blooded Ashrim bard devoted to Jastev (for obvious reasons).
And my main is a priest of Charl.

While yes, his items are rather over-priced compared to normal market value, I'd just like to point out that being a merchant is often spurred by a desire to make profit. The way to do that, and ALL merchants do this for the most part with their inventory, is to buy items at events (usually pay events) and from good deals found from other players, then resell it at a higher cost. Why you would feel the need to point out that he did just that, makes no real sense to me.

Hehehehe. Here's all I have to say on that, and you can believe me or not (but tis true): The price for my glowbark runestaf is EXACTLY what I paid for it.
I thought it was a great deal at the time. Then I realized it grossly didn't fit my one and only character. So I am honestly just trying to sell it back for exactly what I paid. Not one silver of profit involved.
And swear to the Gods, there's only like half a dozen or so glowbark runestaves in the lands.

>take rune
You remove an ancient glowbark runestaff from in your dinner jacket.
>gaze rune
As you gaze into the gold blazestar cap of your runestaff, tiny, brilliant specks of light trace a symbol for "Hurl Boulder" before fading away.
Wonder what mine is worth.

We went over this in another folder. There were three released with Wavedancer, four or five with EG, two with the Promise ((I think)), and then whatever people have gotten in boxfounds. They are rare but they aren't that rare.
But they are worth what people will pay for them.

3 + 4 + 2 = 8 + a couple from boxfinds means there's less than 12 in the lands.
I think that's pretty damn rare.
And considering what a cool material glowbark is, if you've read the documents, I think a glowbark runestaff is quite a trophy to be had. It just doesn't fit my character at all.

I thought it was rather obvious sarcasm. Once again, it was lost. (Note to self: Self, again, you need to put in the word "SARCASM" when making sarcastic remarks. Not everyone will understand if you don't.)

Yeah Gore, I got it, half the fun of sarcastic posts is seeing who bites. (In another thread i think you think i responded seriously to your sarcastic post... and then bit w/ a "I was being sarcastic remark"... it made me smile :) )
