On a budget. I nagged my wife enough to make her give into the idea of purchasing a replacement for my 6 year old TV. I was thinking the 42 inch Samsung DLP which was on sale at Best Buy for $999 last week.
Well, not it's not on sale anymore and it's up to $1099 at Circuit City.
Anyone either work at Best Buy and know if it will drop back down? Or anyone know of super-secret websites with good deals?

I'd wait a little longer, 1080 TVs are coming out more and more now, and they're steadily driving the prices down on the model you're looking at.
I picked up a floor model Toshiba 46" DLP (Goes up to 1080i) for half the retail price. It still has the manufacturer warranty for one year on the day I bought it. Head out to the shops every week and when you see that deal, don’t hesitate. Snatch it up.

Longer like after Christmas? Or like in a week?

Few weeks ago I called my buddy who works at Best Buy in the TV Department. I was going to invest in an HD plasma this holiday season, but he told me to wait till at least end-of-January for some nice price breaks. That was his advice anyway.

Is your buddy over 24 years old? Seriously asking...

Figure out what tv you want by going to Best Buy, Circuit City, etc... then look up the tv on a site like nextag.com and find it at the best price. I did that and saved about $1000 on my TV.

Got the TV from Circuit City.
Now I need finals to be over so I can glue myself to it.

Burn.
I really don't think you want to play big bank/little bank with me. I'd hate to take your SSI beer money.

Was kidding of course since you think I'm concerned with that shit. Let me know how you review your set after a couple weeks. I'm certainly looking for a DLP AND on my circuit city card.
P.s. I'm not poor.
I like the samsung 40" HD/LCD 1080.
It or something similar is on my list for next year.

Nah, the LCD is not DLP.
Do you want to hang the tv or put it on a stand?
If you want to hang it -- then you need to go LCD.
If you want to put it on a stand (or are indifferent) then you go with the DLP. The DLP will get you the best bang for the buck and actually has markedly better black-levels than the LCD. It's going to give you a better picture + a better pricetag. You just can't hang it on a wall since it's rear projection.
Its to be a hanger. Thats why I'm going LCD. I like the weight and the look with as little space needed as possible. Losing some clarity on the black color doesnt bother me as much as freeing up wall/floor space for other acoutrements.
P.s. I'm not poor.
It is your trailer park, wheelchair girl story that has given us that impression. As an aside your story was one of the funniest things I have ever read.

Giving a handicapped person a ride to her home in a trailer park makes me poor?
