So! Jake and I have decided to adopt a dog. I've spent the last two or three weeks looking around, and I found the perfect one at the local SPCA shelter. We went to meet her yesterday and decided that we want to adopt her last night. She's a seven month-old yellow lab mix, and she was badly abused by the people that surrendered her. She's slow to trust and extremely timid, and needs some formal training. Yesterday she let me pet her for about ten minutes before deciding to jump up in my lap, but once there she started shaking really hard.
I'm looking forward to spending a lot of time with her and teaching her that not all people are mean, and that she can be safe in her new home. SO! She needs a name. Here's her picture.

I'm going to go with Mr. Stitches, or Stitch for short.

But she's a she! She can't be a Mr.

I didn't much like any of the names, but it's your dog! I voted Lucy. She's a cutie :). Glad she found a good home.

I'm totally open to any other suggestions as well.

I'd be tempted to call her Marilyn, just because her eyes seem to be saying "Love me not for my beauty, but for myself." She's a beautiful dog, and it's wonderful that you're willing to take her into your hearts and home. She certainly deserves a break in life! :)

Call it Artha, even though I voted for Polly.

Ponderosa? Who's idea was that...
She most definitely resembles a Lucy. Hate seeing that anxious look in a dog's eyes. Hope you can banish it soon.

Ya this.
Props to you for adopting this dog, she is beautiful. My vote is for Penelope but that which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

I went with Polly; close second was Lucy. A DJ here on 93.3 named Pierre Robaire has a lil dog named Lucy though, so went with the other. Both are good :) Animal names that end in E are good for cutesy time.

My parents got a puppy a month after I was born and called her Penelope...so I grew up with Penny. I've met tons of dogs called Lucy when walking mine. Penny is more original!
PS. Your new friend is adorable, what a sweet face!

BTW - awesome that you adopted :)
There is this $3000 dollar per miniature microscopic toy chihuahua petstore between Park and Madison in the upper 70s that makes me wish a mongrel dingo would start going to work in there. Okay, random.
Ya this.

She is adorable.
I had a Yorkie named cricket. Now I have a blue merle Collie named Kayleigh and a blue merle collie/ shepherd mix named Ringo.
I voted or Polly but she looks like an orpahan Annie to me.

Annie would be cute, 'cept my middle name (and my partner's middle name) is Anne/Ann, so that would be weird. Maybe Polly Ann Murray to continue with the middle name tradition, hahaha.

Actually, it doesn't matter what you name her. She's still gonna be cute, and she's got Bette Davis eyes. ;)

Okay, I'm happy to report that Lucy is safely in her new home. We went for a walk today, had a nice bath in our huge master bathtub (I still have to post pictures of our new house!) and is currently passed out with her head resting on my knee.
-K
PS My first choice was Polly, but Jake kept saying, "Polly want a cracker? Polly want a cracker?" so I had to go with Lucy. HIS first choice for a dog name was Hose Head.
