My god, whoever decided that Bryant Gumbel should call games is quite foolish. Listening to him call a game on the NFL network is like listening to him reading news..:snores:
Wow, just wow.

He sucks but at least he isn't in a coma like Troy Aikmen and HOLY SHIT Madden? The list goes on but there is a serious lack in the booth.. and I can't stand fucking homers in teh booth either.

I usually just put the TV on mute and use the radio announcers.

I love John Madden.

I personally hate Joe Buck and Chris Collinsworth (I don't think Chris was in the booth today, but Joe during the Dallas game made me want to kill someone).
And in the first game - ugh, I hate Phil Simms. And who was doing the play-by-play? It was like "There's the snap.....(5-8 seconds later)...and it's incomplete." This isn't fucking baseball man, you need to describe what's happening. Was there pressure? Did the QB need to scramble? Is he gay like Drew Bledsoe? Did he scream like a little girl?

I love John Madden.
He's loveable but he has no clue.

Yeah, I think it was Chris Collinsworth who was with Bryant Gumbel tonight, though I could be wrong.

yep Gumbel and Collinsworth, about as bad a pairing for a football game as I have ever heard.
At least they didnt have Tony Kornheiser with them, then I would have cried.

Worst announcing job I've heard in quite some time. There were moments of silence where I was like wtf.
Collinsworth knows a ton about football though. He's a lot more knowledgeable than most color guys. I didn't watch much of the game because the Hurricanes were playing at the same time but it seemed like it wasn't the best commentator.
I like Kornheiser because he calls it like he sees it. That's why I think he and Theisman don't have great chemistry. Theisman has made a career out of saying announcer platitudes like "He's giving 110%" and "This guy came to play" and Kornheiser has made a career out of calling the truth.

I can't stand when ESPN2 has a female commentator on college football games.
I end up having to mute the shit, it's just not right.

Agreed, it just grates the nerves for whatever reason.

The female voice is only redeemed by the female body, so any type of female radio DJ is inherrently bad.

Tony Kornheiser on MNF isn't up to his PTI form, but he's still leaps and bounds better than pretty much any other football announcer. I think the announcing team for MNF is actually pretty good: Theismann can give a player's perspective, Kornheiser can be funny, and Tirico is an adequate play by play guy. Plus, you can't beat Suzy Kolber.
Joe Buck is awful, no question.
I cant stand Gumbel.
I like Madden but I'm old school. I remember when it was Madden on the sidelines coaching and it was dandy Don and Cosell in the booth.

I didn't get to watch it because CABLE PROVIDERS ARE COCKSUCKERS.

From what I hear NFLN was asking for some pretty exorbitant fees from the cable guys. Apparently they wanted to defray the costs of running 12,000 commercials every day for the past two weeks.
