View Full Version : How to Really Win In GS

Responsible Adult

I do regret spending so much time in GS, though. If I'd have picked up tennis instead you'd be seeing me on TV

-Fellow in another thread.

Who are the real winners in Gem Stone IV?

Is it the fellow that spends 4 hours a day and generates enough in game money to make a profit? Perhaps 200 $ a month profit, thats about 2500$ a year.
However, that is also 4 hours x 365 days = 1460 hours a year ! What can you do with this time beyond what you are already doing?

One can probably do all of these things:

-Play a team sport [Tennis, Basketball, Soccer]
-Develop Yourself [Weight lifting, Running, Losing weight]
-Develop a Skill [Sketching,Wood Crafting, playing a musical instrument]
-Develop your career [Get a higher education, learn a trade, start your own small business]
-Develop others [Help out in your community, volunteer at your local homeless shelter, build a house for hurricane victims, mentor a child]
-Most importantly, spending time with your friends and loved ones.

Finally, I leave you with some words of advice that has helped me through life and might also give you some guidance:

For we are his workmanship, having been created in Jesus Christ for good works, which God has before prepared that we should walk in them.

Ephesians (2:10)

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

Psalms (ch. XC, v. 12)

And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves. for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

I Peter (ch. IV, v. 8)

A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

Proverbs (ch. XVIII, v. 24)

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

Galatians (5:23, 24)

When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

I Corinthians (ch. XIII, v. 11)

Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

I Peter (3:1-4, 7)

Their poison is like the poison of a serpent; they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear; Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers, charming never so wisely.

Psalms (ch. LVIII, v. 4-5)

God loves you all so very much.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Michael Vitori

I lol @ you.

Do you know what most Americans are doing with those four hours a day? They're plopping their asses in front of their TVs and staring blankly at it.

I'd much rather be typing and using my brain, interacting with people, then wasting my time with the boob tube..

Go thump your bible elsewhere. Your public service announcements are not appreciated here.

Yes, in the end it's all a big waste of time. But isn't that true with everything? I regret being the guy that spent 8 hour days in front of the computer, just grinding out level after level. But I don't regret meeting the people or having some of the experiences that came with all that. If I could go and do it all over again, I'd still play, but it wouldn't be my main hobby so much as "I have free time and it's rainy out, time to go kill some kobolds."

Interesting post. I'm going to leave you with a thought in response.

If you dedicate time out of your day doing something you truly enjoy doing, then that time is never wasted.

PS. The Biblical references, while worthy to some, definately do not apply to all that post here... far from it in fact. Next time I'd leave those off if I were you.

I mean seriously, you are thinking on the side of the boat that Jesus exists and loves us all and wants us to do good things. What you are NOT seeing is the fact when we all put down the gaming habit, we put hundreds of thousands of people out of a job, single handedly destroy the technologoy world, crush large tycoon businesses, inflate the sports world, develop hernias from the weight lifting, you are prolly anti drug too so there goes all the guys selling blow, crack and weed. I mean Come the fuck on! We are doing the world good!

Doubles?

Also, it's kind of a grey area. You play as an individual. Until you get to the pros, you win or lose as a team.

First off, even with four hours of Gemstone, I still have time to play a musical instrument, get a higher education, and have plenty of time left over to spend with my friends and family. Hell, I even have time to praise my God(s) & Goddess(es)...yes, that's right, multiple gods and goddesses...am I going to hell because of this?

... words of advice ...

Oh please, leave your bible thumping out of this. The bible has absolutely NO place in Gemstone.

Maybe in his mind, that's part of the problem. There are many, many people who feel that an activity isn't important or worth doing if it doesn't involve the Bible.

I spend time with my loved ones all the time, I do outdoor activities, I excercise semi-regularly, I go to church semi-regularly and I still have enough time for GS. Imagine that!

Taken from the other thread...

Further, after understanding the game a bit further and coupling this with some business pessimism, I'am beginning to see how real people can exploit other real people in this game. When I see Ebay virtual money being sold I notice most of you put "I'am only selling the time I put into making this virtual money" as a disclaimer. Although, I abhor this type of interaction (read above) let me clue some of the potential purchasers in. The playing field is not even! Let me explain.

The word "I'm" is a contraction of the words "I am." By saying "I'am", you are defeating the purpose of the contraction, as you're not actually contracting anything.

I bet if you played Gemstone even half as much as your wife does, you would have learned this simple grammatical rule (which most people learn no later than first grade), due to the text based nature of the game. What have you been doing for 4 hours a day that you failed to learn such a basic rule of the English language?

In other words, you...

Your post implies that you think we are all a bunch of lifeless, lazy lumps lolling around in front of our computers. And you finish it with the bible verses. Its just a horrible approach if you actually intended to sound helpful.

Furthermore, if you truly are religious - learn how to witness better than that. You can let your faith and conviction shine through and touch the lives of others without waving the bible around like a big stick. It closes minds. It offends people and they think, I'm avoiding that religion because I don't want to turn out like him.

Ugh.

Well isn't this just silly. From what I understand, this guy hasn't even played GS, right? Way to be a weekend crusader, dood. I wonder if he stands up in Church on Sunday and talks about all the work he's done ministering to the Godless people who play computer games that revolve around magic and alternate universes. You know that's the devil, right? Same as reading Harry Potter.
