Anyone know exactly what the mechanics of imbedding ?

Specifically,

What determines the amount of charges that go into a item (item or caster)?

What determines success of imbedding?

What spells can I imbed?

Levels and minor elemental ranks have the biggest impact. There might be other stuff too, I dunno.

Call familiar is level 20 so it cannot be imbedded. There are several spells lower than 20 than cannot be imbedded but I do not have a list.

At one time you used to be able to imbed 20th level spells right, back in the GSIII days? If I remember correctly there was an instance where a sorcerer was imbedding implode in rods and leaving them around the landing.

It is still possible to imbed Implosion into an item as I just did it yesterday. Implosion is one of the few spells that you can still imbed (as noted, Familiar used to work, but no longer does).

How many ranks of MnE should I plan to get in the long term to be good at this? Have to balance this with MjE to be good at recharging also.

I've never had a failure at imbedding, but it wasn't exactly my focus. You shoul just get 75 MnE for the benefit to 425 anyway... The most desired imbeds are lower level for more charges anyway... 506, 508, 507, 905, 913, 410/909. I am also not sure if 515 is imbedable, but that's still not that high of level.

The most desired imbeds are lower level for more charges anyway... 506, 508, 507, 905, 913, 410/909. I am also not sure if 515 is imbedable, but that's still not that high of level.

I've stopped at 425 and was planning to just continue pushing MjE because the cumulative benefits to 503 and 513 are greater than the benefits to 425 and so on, but if more MnE ranks are necessary to imbed, well...

You can only imbed spells you can cast yourself. No idea if this works for spells granted from outside sources.

Nope. Tayre and I tried that back in old Mule days, to no avail. I want to say when we went to cast at an item and it said nothing happened. After the 208 changes, I think the messaging was "this spell is too powerful!!" or somesuch.

Nope, but if you have an imbed scroll, you can do stuff like that.

I agree that 503/513 are well worth it, but you don't get benefits past your level, so keeping MjE at level, then put points into MnE, 425 improves CS and AS, and the extra DS from 430 more than makes up for the lagging wizard ranks... DS is generally not a wizards poor suit.

But these are darn near impossible to find. I've been looking for one for over a year now.
