Contrary to the idea of a camera adding 10 pounds to its subject, some newer models of digital cameras promise to shave 10 pounds off, a promise that has attracted appeal and controversy.

Digital cameras with "slimming" effects are gaining popularity as the holiday shopping season approaches, retailers say.

"They've introduced a feature that will take your subject in the centre, and they'll compress it while stretching the sides," said Chris Deyoe, a sales associate with Best Buy in Winnipeg.

The sample before and after picture is pretty convincing. I'm guessing this might take lying on the internet about one's appearance to a new level.

All they do is skew the image by stretching it vertically.

A neat concept, but if you're that concerned about looking skinny in pictures you've got serious issues.

One day there will be cameras that do the airbrushing for you, mark my words.

<<All they do is skew the image by stretching it vertically.>>

As with any other digital photo editing, all they do is change the image to look better. I wouldn't exactly pass that off as negligible.

And no, they are not stretching the image vertically. It retains the same height.

Most of the men I know suck in their gut for photos...even the thinner ones. I don't know, maybe they think the thinner their middle looks the wider their shoulders will appear...

... Stretch the image vertically, shrink the image horizontally... same thing. And it does not retain the same aspect.

<<... Stretch the image vertically, shrink the image horizontally... same thing.>>

No, not really.

<<And it does not retain the same aspect.>>

You're right, it absolutely doesn't. But it said absolutely nothing about changing the height of the picture.

Again, my computer is much better than yours. There's no competition.

No, not really.

Would "Stretch the Image vertically and then crop" make you happy? The image has been stretched vertically, it just so happens the cropping window is exactly the same. Semantics, you knew what Shari meant (That the aspect was changed)

Or get fat and I'll do whatever this camera will for the difference in cost between it and a regular camera.

Heh, you must not have ever dieted. Diets can cost well over 400 if you are in bad positions.

Of course there are free and cheap ways to do everything. I'm just saying, if you're going to buy something to help ya look slim, chances are, you can't live off rice and chicken and taking 10 mile walks.

What America needs to do is take away food stamps!

I have juvenile diabetes, so dieting is a very familiar/constant thing to me. I'm also female with a mother quite intent on perfection, so you can rest assured I've been on one diet or another since I was about six years old. What I don't do is waste money on prepackaged foods that sap your vitamins and minerals, and I don't believe in diets like Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers for this reason. I also strive not to eat unnatural things, so I cook 99% of what I eat myself.

In many ways, we have to define the context to which we're using diet. In my initial post, I meant more along the lines of "don't eat crap". White rice = crap. Boiled chicken = good. Brown rice = okay, but I still wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole because it would send my blood sugar concentration into the stratosphere. Mostly I survive on: eggs, milk, chicken, bottled water, lentils, and some pork with a suppliment, which everyone should take regardless of dietary habits. Occasionally, I will splurge and make or get myself some dried pineapple because it's tasty awesome.

Most overweight people can do basic things like preliminary yoga positions. I can pretty much also guarantee if the pre-processed, unnatural foods are removed and fruits are limited to things like strawberries and blueberries in moderation, the smallest amount of exercise will make a huge difference. Of course, for the first few days you're willing to whack an old lady over the head for a bagel, but it's still cheaper than spending 400 bucks on something that doesn't improve your health whatsoever either.
