As the ink dries on the merger agreement, my old company expires. I'm in my 23rd year so it's a bittersweet day. We were acquired in 1999 by investment bankers (KKR) and we never dissolved the old company as a legal entity until today. We make prototype aerospace hardware and having owners that make money selling companies like trading cards was very unpleasant.
The real upside is that after more than 4 years doing mergers and acquisitions, I get to go home to operations (having P/L responsibility is more to my liking).
I was going to write a lot more about the evils of M&A but I'm probably just jaded at this point.
I hear there's champagne in my office at 4 this afternoon.
