Subject: Honest mistakes taken too far.

Heya folks...

I've had a run in or two with GMs that have been for or against what I
would call my preferences. Those that go against would probably fall
under the category where I am just unable to explain (persuasively) my
side of the particular situation. At times, I might get a little
heated, and afterwards make amends. Well, is the same so for the GMs that
make mistakes?

The following is a short and brief exerpt of a GM that feels he is
supreme, which arguable may or may not be the case. This particular
example is nothing to serious, but it does reflect the possibility where a GM
may not make an adequate decision.

You: "Selling: 10x zested waraxe with a long show; 9x blessable
falchion; 8x blessable axe, 8x axe; 7x longsword; 6x permablessed falchion;
4x sanct'd lightning flaring mace. TTM."
You: "Selling: 10x zested waraxe with a long show; 9x blessable
falchion; 8x blessable axe, 8x axe; 7x longsword; 6x permablessed falchion;
4x sanct'd lightning flaring mace. TTM.pull my amu"

>pull my amu
You pull on your black pearl amulet and darkness settles on your mind
more heavily.
>think Selling: 10x zested waraxe with a long show; 9x blessable
falchion; 8x blessable axe, 8x axe; 7x longsword; 6x permablessed falchion;
4x sanct'd lightning flaring mace. TTM.

Selling or buying merchandise on the main thought channel is prohibited
by the local Merchant Guild. The Guild suggests that you PULL the
amulet to sell on the black channel. Your ability to use telepathy has
been temporarily removed.

You feel a strange darkness surround your mind.
You concentrate hard but something is blocking you.
(ESP blocked for 2 minutes.)

report Was this an automatic sort of removal or did you remove even
with an obvious oversight?

SEND[Khaladon] Once is an oversight. Twice though?

report look on the second thought, at the very end of it.

SEND[Khaladon] Only lasts a short amount of time and is a reminder
only. Have a great day.

>report I know it only lasts a short time, was just curious how close
you were paying attention. Seems about as close as I was when I mae the
oversight. ;-)

My point here is this: While I know I made a mistake, it seems
apparent to me that he did not recognize that I did attempt to get onto the
black net prior to blocking my ESP. Even though it seems he did after I
pointed it out, he didn't acknoledge that he might have made an
oversight as well. Well, we all make mistakes I guess.

An email about 20 minutes later from the moderator:

RE: Notification of a hidden post

Your post was hidden from the following area of the GemStone III Forum:

Strategies, Tactics, and Hunting
Game Balance

For your convenience and reference, a copy of the post in question is
included below.

The problem area in the post regards both being completely off topic as
well as questioning the integrity of a gamemaster's decision on the
public forums. The forums are not the appropriate place to discuss whether
a gamemaster's actions were warranted in a particular situation. My
best advice would be to either a) ASSIST in-game to discuss the matter
with a Host and GM or b) write a letter to feedback outlining your
concerns in a constructive manner.

I realize your post itself was not inflammatory in the traditional
sense and was written with a modicum of respect, but it is a topic that
could easily be hijacked and taken entirely too far by other posters, even
if it were posted in an appropriate topic, which is was not.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. If you have further
questions, please feel free to contact me at MOD-GSVALEIR@play.net.

Sincerely,

Valeir

Yes, wrong topic indeed, becuase there is no folder in GS III Forums for complaining about GM abuses. Since this complaing was not inflamatory, then any posts following could be hidden just the same allowing this to remain, but that might make the GODS look bad, can't have that now can we.

Will you point out exactly what your problem with the GMs is?

All I see is you fucked up with your amulet and got punished.

Who cares? 2 minutes you couldn't use the amulet? BFD.

You get 1 minute just for thinking to much in one thought.

I'm one of the (i think) few who are not simply enchanted with Khaladon, but how the heck can someone complain about this?

Everyone knows to use the proper channel and even if you screw up the horrible inhumane punishement is all of two minutes long. The horror.

For heavens sake please complain about one of the many things that actually merits it not something as silly as this.

<whining about being punished>

WTF does that have to do with Strategies, Tactics, and Hunting?

I see your point. I love Khaladon but I agree that if he had paid attention he would have known you noticed your own mistake and were fixing it. If he absolutely wanted to remind you, a send would have been enough.

As for the post pulling, we don't know if what's in it was appropiate or not but I don't think it matters much. It would have been pulled anyway.

Yes people there are much bigger things to complain about but even if this is a small point, it is a point.

I still think Khaladon is great though!

2 minutes is hardly worth the time and effort.

Khaladon is a good guy too. I don't think a send would've been approperiate asking you to pull your amulet.

2 minutes is hardly a punishment either. It's barely even a reminder.

Paid attention to what? You think he was watching you and saw you pull your amulet?

Maybe he got reports about you selling on the wrong channel and simply dealt with it as they normally do. The pasted log makes it seem like mere seconds elasped between the pre-warning and the light scolding block of your amunet, when it could have been longer and Khaladon could have felt you had enough time to see the reminder and react before you slipped again.

It totally didn't belong in Strategies, Tactics, and Hunting/ Game Balance.

:shrugs: Seems like you'd already gotten a send, so I see nothing wrong with it.
